ClaphamFox Posted 14 May 2016 Posted 14 May 2016 About 15 years ago I was applying for a journalism course and had to submit an interview with somebody as part of the application. I wrote to Lineker, who invited me to spend the afternoon at the MoTD studios and interview him, even though it was just a favour and was never going to be published. He was charm personified - lovely bloke.
melrose Posted 14 May 2016 Posted 14 May 2016 They say "Never meet your heros" He was an aloof knob when I met him in the eighties!
Countryfox Posted 14 May 2016 Posted 14 May 2016 Met him at an airport once. Very arrogant and rude. Knob.
purpleronnie Posted 14 May 2016 Posted 14 May 2016 So he sometimes can be nice and other times not, crazy!!!!
Phube Posted 14 May 2016 Posted 14 May 2016 So he sometimes can be nice and other times not, crazy!!!! Is he human or something... Weird! Actually you'll probably find most successful people have some twattish qualities... Otherwise they wouldn't be successful!
fazzyfox Posted 14 May 2016 Posted 14 May 2016 Shame they didn't film the market stall last Saturday Night, there were probably a dozen Italian fans kipping under the counter who could have sprung up and burst into song every time "Leicester" was mentioned.
Zapp Posted 14 May 2016 Posted 14 May 2016 Met him at an airport once. Very arrogant and rude. Knob. Out of curiosity, in what way?
Countryfox Posted 14 May 2016 Posted 14 May 2016 Out of curiosity, in what way? He was talking to Motty and I went over and asked Motty for his autograph, he grabbed the pen and paper thinking I MUST mean him and I said no I don't want your autograph thanks ... and he said well FO then. My mate grabbed my arms.
Buce Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 Documentary on BBC1 tonight: http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/36313904
Raj Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 He was talking to Motty and I went over and asked Motty for his autograph, he grabbed the pen and paper thinking I MUST mean him and I said no I don't want your autograph thanks ... and he said well FO then. My mate grabbed my arms. And why are you surprised he acted like a cvnt towards you???
shade Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 he's obviously a bit of a scratch, come on, some people you just know, you don't even need to meet them. leaving the wife of your kids and subsequently hooking up with someone half your age doesn't exactly scream "good guy", plus he's an absolute jockstrap on Twitter. over opinionated, over tanned, over confident.
ClaphamFox Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 He was talking to Motty and I went over and asked Motty for his autograph, he grabbed the pen and paper thinking I MUST mean him and I said no I don't want your autograph thanks ... and he said well FO then. My mate grabbed my arms. So you acted like a complete bellend and were surprised when he was rude to you?
Countryfox Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 So you acted like a complete bellend and were surprised when he was rude to you? Not sure how asking Motson for his autograph and telling Lineker when he grabbed the pen that it was Motson I had asked and not him is acting like a complete bellend ..... And you certainly don't deserve to be told to fvck off. His arrogance is bigger than his ears and tbh he deserved a slap ... Even Motson looked embarrassed.
Bunyip Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 He was talking to Motty and I went over and asked Motty for his autograph, he grabbed the pen and paper thinking I MUST mean him and I said no I don't want your autograph thanks ... and he said well FO then. My mate grabbed my arms. Sorry but anyone sad enough to ask Motty for an autograph automatically puts me in the Lineker camp . He was right you're the knob head.
Izzy Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 Back in the early 80's, my Mum came home one day and said to me: "I was in Fenwicks in town and I dropped my shopping bag and a nice young man came over to me and helped me re pack it and then kindly opened the door for me". That nice young man was Gary Lineker and he's been my hero ever since. Apparently I said to my Mum "Why didn't you invite him back home for tea?" I only met him once as a junior fox in 1981 at at awards dinner and got his autograph/photo etc. and he was nice as pie to me. But that's before he was big time and before he had a nose job I hope those who think he's a knob have just met him on a bad day or at a bad time for him. Let's face it, none of us are perfect all the time and are all guilty of being occasional knobs.
