Can we win the league: Part II

Recommended Posts

At the start of the 15/16 season either a crazy leicester fan or a Sunderland fan in the wind up made a thread "can we win the league." The many responses to the thread were to the effect that the idea was barking mad but we did it!

The question now is, can we do it again?

It's clearly quite early to discuss next season as there is a long transfer window that will have us all extremely stressed and excited at the same time. I'm going to go out in a limb and say this could be one of either our best transfer windows or worst in recent history.

There's also the debate about the supposed big teams not allowing themselves to slip up again and of course new managers coming in. What I would say to that is, hang in, we won with 81 points and 10 clear. It's not the 89 of Chelsea last year but it's certainly a competent tally that should not be sneered at.

If we can get through the window with our players still in blue and add sensibly I see no reason why we couldn't. We've lost 4 games in 13 months and have players who will only improve. The back 4 are another year older but I think they all have at least 1 good season left in them. Our midfield is sensational with a drinky in the middle and the Kante twins either side. Mahrez I dare say will be even better next season and Gray is a fantastic option as back up. The left could improve slightly and Vardy's counterpart could improve too.

What do you think?

I think that prediction is not really 'going out on a limb' lol

What would you rather win next season.

The premier league again or finish 12th and win the Fa Cup?

Fa cup would be great but definitely the league again. To win twice in a row would make us instantly part of the big 4 and we'd be able to attract the likes of messi. lol

Premier League again, to be honest.

FA cup is a bit more of a fluke (lets face it, Palace are in the final this year). To win the Premier League, you need to be quality.

Yes we could.

And that's amazing.

But we probably won't. That's not me naysaying and doom-mongering, it's just that a lot of fantastic stuff had to come together for the dream to come true this season. It probably won't happen next season.

Looking forward to it, whatever happens.

I don't get how anyone can rule it out. Look at the state of the others. I get a lot of good coaches are coming into the league, but we've absolutely pissed this league, every other side is still riddled with weaknesses.

I think the odds remain the same as this year, we shall see what the investment and retention is like over summer, not only from us but across the league.

We've proved that anything is possible, but add 6 (at least) extra mid week games possibly in all corners of Europe makes the challenge a little tougher again.

Objection for the season for me is a top ten finish, a cup run and the knock out phase of the champions league.

For me that would be amazing, anything better and the dream rolls on and on.

Maybe we are one  of the new 'big clubs' Who knows. Liverpool Man utd Man City and Man Utd have all had seasons either in lower tiers or positions and teams like Blackburn Derby Middlesbrough and even Forest have had their glory years  Times change and maybe the era is due when there is a change of attitude in football players and passion is rated higher than money. Well we can hope as fans.

But one thing is sure it will be tougher next year with extra games meaning more chance of injuries, a bigger squad players coming and going and other teams having time during the Summer to look at ways to combat our style of play. I am confident though that whatever team and players we have they will still have the same spirit and fight. It is all due to the backroom staff and the right players being brought in.

I still haven't really taken it in that we've won one Premier League trophy so I don't know why you're talking about a second.
