Hernandez

Missed this.

So what is his natural position?

Guessing he was previously a right back converted to center back? Honestly not too sure, but he's played all his games this season at CB so I assume that's where he'll play for us?

Fairly looking forward to this guy's probable signing. Sounds just what we need.

If anyone has time on their hands, this is the full match between Gijon & Atletico. Supposedly Simeone said Hernandez is the best defender his team's faced this season. Hopefully this match backs up that claim   I believe Sporting Gijon won 2-1 so it must have been a good game.

So... first half he looked good. Atletico's goal was from a Griezmann free kick, Hernandez not at fault at all. Now the comeback.

2nd half highlights (again, the time being the time in the youtube video):

5:48 - clearly not a foul...

19:00 - not a bad pass

25:25 - not a good pass

27:27

33:15

34:00 - not bad in the air

38:05 - plays a part in the equalizer

To be honest, I don't see why Simeone praised Hernandez so much. He does look good though, and we're getting him on a free.

Ok I just watched Sporting Gijon vs Real Madrid, finished 0-0, proper backs to the wall job for sporting. Hernandez looked very comfortable and wasn't troubled. Not much to say really, looks a solid, reliable performer. Good in the air, great positioning, decent pace (he kept up with Bale at one point when he was played through), etc, etc. Solid.

However their best defender was his partner in defence, Bernardo Espinosa who looked like a very no nonsense defender & battered Ronaldo & Bale whenever they came near the box. He missed the second half of the season to injury, but he's out of contract this summer like Hernandez!!! Looking at the sporting forum, they rate this Bernardo even more then Hernandez.

GET EM BOTH IN!!!

It's pretty clear tsintskaro is just some FIFA playing kid who doesn't actually have any affinity with us / even heard of us before this season. Take what he says about our players with a pinch of salt.

I went back and read his post history, and he seems pretty well informed.

i just don't like Simpson,that's all

chill guys  :D

btw hernandez has good pass completion, thats Morgans and huths weak side

You have to feel for Danny simpson but his is the one position that you'd imagine would be a relatively easy upgrade. The other is left wing but Schlupp could develop into that role replacing Albrighton. The owners talk about three or maybe four key signings. It doesn't take a tactical genius to know we are talking about a strong backup keeper, a better right back, a better left winger (Fuchs covered for Albrighton lots this past season) or enforcer if Kante goes and a stronger attacking option to partner Vardy who is quick and a good header of the ball (a combo of Okazaki and Ulloa).

the image is too big to fit in the ft avatar size, what can I use to decrease the image size (whilst keeping it transparent)?

When's this going to be official?

Only four or five more to go!

He needs a good 3 or 4 medicals first.

Well, pass completion is why we got Morgan and Huth in the first place.

He could but it's unlikely.

He can't cover for him over 90 minutes and if we're  replacing Albrighton then we need an improvement and, for me, Schlupp will never be that.

Didn't Stoke let Huth go because they wanted ball playing cbs?

Yes and look where that got them, defensive shambles.

Does seem crazy now we've shat all over the world of footy that people think the best defenders are ones who keep it closer to the goal for longer.

Posted

Well the same could be said for goals scored... goalie could of fluffed it or it bounced in off your knee cap..

usually it averages itself out by the end of the season so if the statistics are high then its a good sign...

bad passes are far more common than deflected goals or keeper errors.

are vardy's 24 goals misleading because defenders and keepers should have stopped him?

As unpredictably solid and consistent as Simpson has turned out to be, he's still arguably the weakest link in our starting XI so I'm looking forward to seeing what this guy's got. Hopefully he's comfortable at CB and RB. Would be good cover off the bench at minimum and maybe a starter in the cups. Coming into his prime at 27 and on a free? No-brainer.

http://www.90min.com/posts/3259999-leicester-city-set-to-sign-sporting-gijon-defender-luis-hernandez?utm_source=RSS

ESPN FC has reported that Leicester City have agreed a deal to sign Sporting Gijon defender Luis Hernandez on a free transfer.

Hernandez revealed earlier this month that he would be bringing his three-year career with Gijon to an end once his current contract expires at the end of June.

And sources close to the centre-half have told ESPN that he is ready to make the switch from Northern Spain to the East Midlands.

The 26-year-old is expected to sign a four-year deal with Leicester - a move that will tie him to the club until the summer of 2020 - and become the club's first signing of the summer in the process.

The Premier League champions are keen to bolster their squad ahead of a first ever UEFA Champions League campaign.

Manager Claudio Ranieri already has centre backs Wes Morgan, Robert Huth and Marcin Wasilewski at his disposal after the trio all played their part in the Foxes' odds-defying title-winning season.

The Italian knows, however, that his small squad will be stretched to the limit during the 2016/17 campaign as they prepare to defend their crown and feature in three cup competitions.

And in signing Hernandez, Ranieri will know that his new signing's versatility could be key in the event of an injury crisis at the King Power stadium, with Hernandez also capable of filling in at right back.

Hernandez originally joined La Liga side Sporting Gijon on a free transfer in the summer of 2011.

The former Real Madrid youngster immediately became part of Rojiblancos' starting eleven, and has played at least 35 matches per season over the course of the past three years.

In all, Hernandez has made 140 appearances for Gijon, scoring one goal.
