Danny Simpson as in the English League Champion who was a large part of one of the best defences in the country? Yeah, it really is weird that people rate him.

I'm sure the Sporting fans views will be taken seriously since they reinforce the opinion of what want to have of Hernandez as opposed to the Nigerian fans who are just "random people on the Internet" lol

They'll be taken more seriously because it's a club website, with fans who see him play week in week out. You do see the difference between that and some twitter bloke he probably saw him play 8 times at most in the last year, after just a few days of training each time?

Remember the opinions of England fans about Vardy when England don't play to his strengths? Even when they do, you get the comments like "he's not good enough, he's not international class, he's been lucky". Do you take those comments seriously?

I'll take them all with a pinch of salt, it's what he does here that matters. But some opinions are clearly going to be more rounded than others.

sorry,cant take simpson's fanboys

hope there will be replacement in the right  defence

I agree to a point.

It's very easy to play full back in this Leicester defence to the point of flattering to deceive. Simpson isn't expected to offer anything offensively and even when defending on his own 18 yard box his main job is to make sure no one goes past him so he stands off and makes it difficult for his opponent to go past him. This usually allows a cross to come in the box which he'll then try and block or have faith that Morgan & Huth will deal with it.

Simpson is competent in his role but he's far from outstanding and I daresay a lot of full backs could be made to look good in our team. I'm happy enough for him to keep his role but maybe the long term plan for Ranieri is to play with full backs who aren't just there for defensive reasons and offer little offensively.

The guy was a rock ever since he replaced rdl bar that moment of madness v Arsenal, doesn't offer much going forward but that's perfect for us as it gives Mahrez more freedom

Some people don't understand that an average player can perform above his station if he's put in a well drilled team. Simpson is only good in our system. Put him in any other team in the top half and he'd found out. So if Sporting Gijon signed Simpson they'd be disappointed when they see him play because he's not good at what they require full backs to do.

Some people don't understand this basic concept. For them all our players are world beaters because, you know, they won the league.

And some make out people have said something they haven't, to try and belittle others.

Where has anyone said Simpson is a world beater? He's done very well in our team and fit our system, a system that won us the league with one of the best defences, if not THE best defence from the point he came into it.

Ritchie De Laet and Schlupp couldn't manage to work in that system, that's why we changed them. So how about actually giving someone credit who did work in that system.

You're right and you raise a good point. And Nigerians are probably upset with their players because they failed to qualify for AFCON. But even if CSKA Moscow fans were slagging him off there'd people here saying Walsh knows better than them. Maybe he does. But I wouldn't totally discredit what other fans say about their players simply because it doesn't reinforce our beliefs.

Because when people say certain players like Okazaki, Simpson and Albrighton should be improved and upgraded upon we get called brain dead because "they won the league".

Kalou and Boswingwa won the CL for Chelsea and they were shipped out that same summer. That's the nature of the game. There are certain players in our team that needs to be upgraded upon.

Edit. Not saying we should get rid of any players. We should just get better players in.

Do we have any confirmation that he's indeed going to be with us? It seems to be a done deal but I've yet to see anything serious reported.

I'm not... but there could be any number of reasons as to why they believe it. From the team around him, to tactics, to where he's played etc.

It seems likely we're continuing the trend we set before. Signing players who have certain parts to their play in which they excel, and then playing to their strengths and not asking them to do something they aren't good at.  The like of Albrighton was signed on his crossing, Kante his tackling, defenders who just defend, Vardy his pace.

Having watched him a couple of times it seemed obvious to me why we liked him. His pace, directness and him always looking forward and wanting to shift it upfield quickly screamed of fitting in with the counter attacking style.

Asking him to play another way, ask him to fit another system (as talked about Simpson) and he might not work. Same with Vardy if you want to play him wide, or for him to play with his back to goal. If he's not played the right way, he's going to look a total waste of time.

Yes mate, the ghost of Cilla Black visited me last night and confirmed it. Close the thread.

Gijon fans watch this guy play every week.

Nigeria fans see Musa every few months in a team that's pretty crap.

Interesting stats

Forward passes

Morgan - 16.8

Huth - 17.4

Hernandez - 32.1

Pass completion

Morgan 75%

Huth 72%

Hernandez 81%

Tackles won

Morgan 0.89

Huth 0.89

Hernandez 0.74

Aerial duels won

Morgan 58%

Huth 62%

Hernandez 58% - identical to Morgan so he's fine in the air.

Interceptions

Morgan 2.50

Huth 2.17

Hernandez 3.91 - much higher than Morgan and Huth.

Bear in mind Sporting Gijon finished 1 point above the relegation zone so they're a poor side. Stats alone won't tell you the whole story but it tells you something.

Just had a thought, he might end up at right back.

Our right back is mainly a defensive role and with these stats he looks quite comfortable on the ball and would offer more of a threat in the air. He also has a Fuch's like throw in. Just a thought as a 6ft ball playing centre half shouldn't have too many problems playing as a full back for us.

There's plenty of people who genuinely think Simpson is actually the best right back available for England, I assume the guys are talking about those people.

I doubt anybody disagrees that he's done a bang up job for us in the system Claudio has implemented.

Ha. Thought I was in a Danny Simpson thread.

On Hernandez, I know absolutely nothing about him. If Scott Minto gives it the go ahead though I'm all aboard.

One of them sporting fans in the player ratings said he's 'new in the center position', so maybe he was a right back before this season?

Why would we want to play a CB as RB?

Just because he might look comfortable on the ball?

Shout.

Missed this.

So what is his natural position?

Well to be fair England are a third rate international team, nowhere close to being world beaters. :D

interceptions stat a little misleading, you can read an opponents pass and intercept it or the opponent can make a bad pass making it easy to intercept?

Well the same could be said for goals scored... goalie could of fluffed it or it bounced in off your knee cap..

usually it averages itself out by the end of the season so if the statistics are high then its a good sign...
