If anyone has time on their hands, this is the full match between Gijon & Atletico. Supposedly Simeone said Hernandez is the best defender his team's faced this season. Hopefully this match backs up that claim   I believe Sporting Gijon won 2-1 so it must have been a good game.

Interesting stats

Forward passes

Morgan - 16.8

Huth - 17.4

Hernandez - 32.1

Pass completion

Morgan 75%

Huth 72%

Hernandez 81%

Tackles won

Morgan 0.89

Huth 0.89

Hernandez 0.74

Aerial duels won

Morgan 58%

Huth 62%

Hernandez 58% - identical to Morgan so he's fine in the air.

Interceptions

Morgan 2.50

Huth 2.17

Hernandez 3.91 - much higher than Morgan and Huth.

Bear in mind Sporting Gijon finished 1 point above the relegation zone so they're a poor side. Stats alone won't tell you the whole story but it tells you something.

I'd quite like to welcome Benalouane back for next season. In the games he's played for us, from my view I've been fairly impressed to be honest. West Ham (h) in the cup, in particular, he was excellent as I recall. If our central defence options for next season were to be Morgan, Huth, Hernandez, Benalouane and Wasyl/Moore, I'd be pretty satisfied. It really does depend on who stays and who moves on.

@@Koke Also the starts are hard to judge because La Liga and the Prem are fairly different.

Interestingly, per 90, Luis commits 0.61 fouls, compared to 0.71 for Wes and 1.0 for Huth. He also suffers 0.5 fouls, compared to Huth's 0.49 and Wes's 0.39.

He's the right sided CB, shirt number 2.

Some highlights of the first half (the time being the time in the youtube video):

8:20-8:50 - a couple nice forward passes

9:40 - good control from the throw in

10:40-11:05 - seems to like to start things from the back and another sexy forward pass

Sporting Gijon fan's player ratings for 2015-2016 season.. I'm getting more excited reading these comments!!  http://foro.portalsportinguista.com/showthread.php?t=17218

Luis 10 - a player of Champions

Luis Hernandez - 9.5: A value, a spectacular central defense. Awesome.

Luis Hernandez - 10 : It should be remembered that debuted in first and has a very short experience center. and with a leadership and commitment that we miss.

Luis Hernandez - 9. From a trashy side a central category was huge. Serious, fast and strong, and taking the ball

Luis Hernandez - 10 : A hero

Luis Hernandez went from being the subject of jokes to be essential in the team adapting to a position he had never player

Luis Hernandez. Underrated. Seriousness, concentration, commitment,

Hernandez, Luis - 8.5. The funny toupee only knew out of band, who three years ago was no equipment, and the board of Sporting, gave him the opportunity to play in 2B. Oh God !, But three years later, becomes a center like the top of a pine tree that God values all but a spendthrift of Carbayín, asking you to remember that Sporting would not be without one. He goes to the champion of the Premier, Champions play as a place where you surely valued. He has given absolutely everything. More guys like him

I'm sure the Sporting fans views will be taken seriously since they reinforce the opinion of what want to have of Hernandez as opposed to the Nigerian fans who are just "random people on the Internet" lol

Think its different circumstances really. Nigerian fans expectations are high and are obviously going to be pissed at their national team for failing to qualify for the AFCON & its pretty easy for fans to pick out a scapegoat.

Whereas Sporting Gijon fans probably have low expectations? And the majority of them are describing Luis Hernandez as the second coming of Jesus Christ himself. That can only be good news for us  Can see this being another shrewd find by Walshy.

All I have seen if this guy is his Instagram and player ratings from Gijon fans but now all I want to do is stare into his eyes while dreaming of winning the champions league.

I was quite encouraged by how they rated him. At 27 he's a late bloomer as well, and his stats look pretty good. I'm actually quietly excited about this guy.

no chance of that happening, he's on loan from barca

I guess he'll be the first signing of the summer then, 1st July

Barca are willing to loan him out again next season. Great talent at CM or rather as an attacking midfielder with flair, would fit in nicely with our setup.

Lets be honest about it, Leicester are signing him and no-one's heard of him, that normally means he'll be ****ing brilliant.
