This could be a good move as it'd put Simpson under pressure. De Laet is a liability and would be best moved onto Middlesbrough permanently. Simpson made a few back pass howlers last season and scored 0 goals so an upgrade in that position will only strengthen the squad. Simpsons antics off the pitch probably have the owners twitchy as well.

The owners will also be very keen to develop the profile in the Asian market and if signing a Chinese International has the same impact as signing Okazaki had in Japan it'll pay for itself in shirt sales.

Scored no goals.... We do realise he's a defensive full back don't we? Imagine how badly we'd be exposed if we had a rb who constantly bombed forward along side Mahrez who doesn't really defend lol, don't get me wrong I do feel we need competition at rb but I would also feel 100% confident heading into the season with Simpson as 1st choice rb as he's been an absolute rock since replacing de laet

Would prefer that we signed players for their ability first, nationality second and not the other way round. I suspect with this one (and with Okazaki) that that's not the case.

Even though this guy has been linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe, and Okazaki had been playing at the highest level in Germany for years? What does an Asian player have to do for you not to suspect it's a signing based on nationality?

As much as city want to gain support in Asia, they're not going to sabotage their own success, and therefore following, to get that.

If he's exactly as good as someone else we're looking at, which is unlikely, then it might be a consideration, but it's not going to be even close to THE MAIN consideration.

Look at Shinji. It's nice that he increases our fame in Asia, but we deploy him, running himself into the ground each match, so teams can't beat us simply by marking Vardy and Mahrez.

We will need to add at least four players to be able to compete in four tournaments. This guy looks like a good acquisition .

I remember people on here sneering at the prospect of Okazaki signing, that he was being signed to sell king power shirts in Tokyo.

As good as Morgan and Huth are we have more games next season so another defender of this quality is a must for me.

Create competition in a already solid defence is a great position to be in

Looks to get forward a lot, pace and can put a cross in oh and lets not forget the defending, wow perfect 2nd rb and cover for cb. Yes please

I thought his defending looked very shady. Far from perfect good going forward yes but we won the league with our defenders being sh*thouses. He doesn't strike me to be like that.

we dont need marquee Asian signings now to make a name for ourselves over there. winning the premiership has already bypassed that short/long range plan.

Quality champions league type capable defenders please.

Okazaki has more than played his part and people thought he was a money man signing so how do you know this guys isn't up to the standard?

Okazaki played for a reputable German club, not a chinese outfit. I could be wrong, but this doesnt seem like a walsh signing lol.

How do you know what a Walsh signing is? Hate this bullshit thought that if people don't think a player is very good, or even just Asian he's been scouted and signed by someone else.

Yea because Mahrez came from a real top, reputable team too didn't he. That's not how it works lol

Those are the rules

Before signing:

Player not in a European league/asian, or quite pricey = Ranieri/Owner

After signing:

Good performances from player = Walsh signing

Bad performances from player = Ranieri/Owners signing

Anyone else think Benalouane could do a job at CB if he gets a regular game for us? Not saying he should start ahead of Morgan or Huth, obviously, but if we needed him he has looked rock solid when I've seen him.

I think he is a CB but is able to play RB. (Could be wrong but I believe we signed him for CB)

In that case then why did the owners come out and say they wanted an Asian player? Why do they talk about having academies to help Asian players into English clubs?

Okazaki was clearly signed from a brief that Walsh was given to find an Asian player who fitted the usual remit as closely as possible, not to find the best player and then that just so happened to be Okazaki. He's played his part but, let's face it, Okazaki isn't any more than a cog in a machine for us and there's nothing to suggest that he was signed on ability alone.

The fact this guy's been linked with the biggest clubs in Europe means nothing. There are so many signings made based on shirt sales/publicity - see Park Ji Sung at United, Li Tie at Everton and Junichi Inamoto at Arsenal. All had a certain level of ability but none would have got the moves they did on footballing ability alone. As shown by their career paths after leaving those clubs.
