GaelicFox Posted 2 June 2016 Posted 2 June 2016 You can't imagine an American of Hispanic origin doing this or even an American of Pakistani origin going it , maybe it's indicative of how disenfranchised some young people of Asian origin feel in modern Britain ? What ever his reasons are , I fear it's not going to help his community in the long term. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/boxing/article-3620692/Amir-Khan-looking-stunning-Olympic-return-wants-represent-Pakistan-Rio-summer.html
Jimothy Posted 2 June 2016 Posted 2 June 2016 Letting professional boxers fight is a whole new can of worms. Don't agree with it at all. And it looks like most boxers disagree, but also that some countries are sticking with the amateur selection route whilst others are embracing bring professional in. As for Khan, I find it weird, but then I was born in England to English parents with just a small hint of Danish in my blood. So maybe I can't truly understand Khan's thinking. But he's lived here all his life, previously represented Britain, fought under the British flag for years, why the sudden love for Pakistan?
Samilktray Posted 2 June 2016 Posted 2 June 2016 Mans probably just sick of representing a country that dislike him for no apparent reason.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 2 June 2016 Posted 2 June 2016 Mans probably just sick of representing a country that dislike him for no apparent reason. He is disliked because he is pretty successful usually the case in this country...
purpleronnie Posted 2 June 2016 Posted 2 June 2016 I find it odd, but we have plenty of sportsmen representing england who were born and raised in other countries so....
Bettsj2 Posted 2 June 2016 Posted 2 June 2016 Fair enough. I was born here but my mothers from the Phillipines. If I was good enough at any sport i'd love to represent them rather than England. I've no idea why I feel an affinity with the place as i've only been there a handful of times. I certainly dont hate England or the UK, quite the opposite. Strange thing.
MPH Posted 2 June 2016 Posted 2 June 2016 When Khan first emerged onto the scene he would make a point of displaying the British AND the Pakistani flag. He'd speak fondly Of both nations. Nothing wrong with being proud of your roots. My son was Born in the United States and is three years old yet already loves Leicester City and likes my England flag I have hanging up. On the wall in the garage behind his trampoline. Now if Khan started coming out with Anti British rhetoric, I could see a problem, but he hasn't. He simply loves two country so fair play to him.
lestajigs Posted 2 June 2016 Posted 2 June 2016 It's no shock is it, he wear the Pakistani flag on his shorts, he's never ever going to get great support from British boxing fans,as the likes of Hatton, Froch, Benn

GingerrrFox Posted 2 June 2016 Posted 2 June 2016 He only wants to box for Pakistan because he's a shithouse who won't fight Brook and he just got pasted by Canelo.
bovril Posted 2 June 2016 Posted 2 June 2016 Didn't Muzzy drape himself in a Turkish flag once? And most Americans I know support their 'other' nation at football. Like others have said, not a big deal, although I have the feeling some will try to make it so.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 2 June 2016 Posted 2 June 2016 Won't change me wanting to see him get bombed out.
Webbo Posted 2 June 2016 Posted 2 June 2016 It's most likely because he stands a better chance of getting a place with them.
Dr The Singh Posted 2 June 2016 Posted 2 June 2016 He has made his money, now can show his true colours
Dr The Singh Posted 2 June 2016 Posted 2 June 2016 Is it much different to our Morgan playing for Jamiaca?Much different, you can't just say you represent a nation for most of your career and say, hey, I've made my money, I can represent the nation I always wanted to. That's just wrong
GaelicFox Posted 2 June 2016 Author Posted 2 June 2016 It's no shock is it, he wear the Pakistani flag on his shorts, he's never ever going to get great support from British boxing fans,as the likes of Hatton, Froch, Benn That's sort of my question Why ??? Why doesn't he get respect ? Decent boxer , Olympic medal , seems nice guy I just don't understand

Dr The Singh Posted 2 June 2016 Posted 2 June 2016 I'll screen print this for when he next fights and then tag you on the boxing thread He gets pelters , very very few people like him or respect him I know why, cus he is whiny coont!! Who is looking for easy money and avoiding the big fights at his weight.
GaelicFox Posted 2 June 2016 Author Posted 2 June 2016 I know why, cus he is whiny coont!! Who is looking for easy money and avoiding the big fights at his weight. Perfect , that explains it And as always your 100% right Dr
Raj Posted 2 June 2016 Posted 2 June 2016 Perfect , that explains it And as always your 100% right Dr ...Didn't Lennox Lewis fight for Canada in Olympics then turned Pro as a BRit?Why are Pros being allowed into the Olympics anyway? The whole ideology of it is wrong for Pro Boxers surely
