The problem as I see it is the Club needs to step forward and make the call early that a player is not available and will not be allowed to leave. Firstly it's a decisive statement and shows a player he's valued and wanted and takes any notion from a player that he'll be allowed to leave.

Secondly it put's clubs on notice that we're not encouraging any offers or approaches.

Neither of these happened in Kante, Mahrez cases which is why we find ourselves on the back foot.

 

It's also fair to say that Managers don't want unhappy players around the place as it usually causes unease with the other players and problems.  Some knuckle down and accept their lot but others will become Mardy and disruptive.

Which is never good.

I'm not sure about it either and tbh I'm not sure that he has experienced this situation before ...   I think what has happened (small club tipped for relegation wins premier league) is quite unique !

 

Obviously these trigger clauses in the contract don't help and maybe we should say players are not for sale but this particular bunch have such a good spirit and camaraderie that as Clever Fox says you would not want that spirit disrupting if they make noises about leaving.

I'm sure he could buy out his contract if he really wanted to leave. Not sure the legality of it though but I'm sure there is a precedent

£65m+ is what we should say he can go for. If he says he wants to go. Arsenal won't go anywhere near that price. They're trying to unsettle him in the hope they can pick him up on the cheap as wenger is a cheapskate. We shouldn't have let Kante go at the price we did either, we need to get smarter.

In my opinion, arsenal arent even interested in signing RM. Just trying to destabilise us as well as adding pressure to otherclubs to sign players. The bloke certainly has us riled and laughing in our face. The guy was really hurt finishing a poor second to us, and this is his way of handling the situation. Having just read Tanners latest tweet, I am certain he will sign new contract.

For that reason alone we won't get no where near the price Lukaku is going for. IF & it's a big IF for me, that Mahrez does leave I would be really surprised if we got more than £50m for him.

The thing here is though, is that while Mahrez may or may not want to move, we hold the hand with all the best cards.

Mahrez still has a long term contract with us, without a buy out clause, we don`t need to sell him, because we simply don`t need the money, so if he was to leave, it should be on our terms.

Deeney isn`t worth £30 plus million, but he was to Watford, and they stuck to their guns, and in the end he signed a new contract.

I dare say if City had gone to £35 plus million, they may have got Deeney in the end, but thankfully or at least hopefully someone at the club saw sense!

Another club may value Mahrez at £37 million, but he`s worth more to us, and as we hold his contract, then we can ask for however much we deem him worth to us.

Personally, given the inflated transfer market, also given that Sterling who plays a similar role, went to Man City for £50 million, i would call in Mahrez and his money grabbing agent, and tell them, that if he has any wish to leave the club, we wont be accepting any offer under £60 million.

Once i had informed Mahrez and his agent of this, i would then make it public knowledge, that we wouldn`t even consider an offer under £60 million, and to not waste our time, with any offers lower.

Then, everyone knows the situation, the player, his money grabbing agent, Arsenal or any other club that wants to come sniffing, and not least of all the media, who seem intent on trying to sell off or unsettle as many of our players as they can!

But he brought in all the players that did. Not to mention the role he played in putting the foundations in place that made it possible to win the prem

I suspect his agent quite likes 10% on the transfers of all of his clients.  Breaking the rules could mean the end of his career.  Also if Arsenal are caught they get fines, points deductions, and other potential sanctions.

 

Right now this is all paper talk.  We would know if/when permission is given for Arsenal to talk to OUR player.  Before that time it is just all spin to try to unsettle our player and I would expect nothing less from Arsenal.  They have no class and seemingly no scouting system of their own.

All of this 'hold him to his contract' talk is concerning. Look what happened to Berahino and now looks like he'll go on a free! I would hope Mahrez has a better attitude about it if we do force him to stay and would crack on but nevertheless could go against us..

Don't get why there is panic for the club to do something. We don't know if he wants to stay or leave but I'm sure the club are speaking to him. Some of these things take time and let it play out. 

 

Just because there is little update in 10 pages doesn't mean the club need to give the player an ultimatum.

Whats a real miracle to me is how on earth Arsenal can still consider themselves to be an ambitious club when Wenger still has a job after all these years... what is it? 11 years since the last prem title?
