Mahrez - Arsenal

What style of play would he like... one that wins the league and enables him to rip up the league winning PFA players of the year perhaps?

That's what I got from the article, he's the fcukin business for us just as Vardy is. Staying put for the immediate future is best for his career.

Pretty sure he'd have been implying that he likes the way we play more than arsenal tbh. Here he has the freedom to roam in a counter attacking side.

There he'd be expected to adhere to a tighter passing game.

Probably thinks he won't be asked to defend there...

It's clear this is going to run and run until transfer deadline day. I won't believe he's going to stay until the window closes.

I highly suspect that that there are a couple of clubs where he'd like to go - but it's not certain at this stage that they will put in a big enough bid for him.

As for the rest, it will be a deliberation between whether to stay or go (e.g. to Arsenal), taking place at the same time as a separate renegotiation over his pay and a potential new contract at LCFC.

The two are obviously linked - and his agent (quite rightly) thinks that waiting to sign strengthens their hand at the moment.

I fully expect this to carry on for a while longer, but I do hope that for the good of the team it is resolved before the season starts.

If I was the club I wouldn't let it get that far. I'd make it known that all business will be refused after a certain date, leaving it so late would only bugger us up when it comes to replacements.

I think this one will rumble on until the end of the window- Riyad might just be keeping an eye out for his dream move to a genuinely big club like Barcelona.

Ultimately though, I don't think that will happen  and unless we receive a ridiculous bid, we will be reluctant to sell given that we've already lost one of our best players. A ridiculous bid will not come from Arsenal. I've seen reports that they are ready to bid £37m, and it wouldn't surprise me if that's how much they think they can get him for, given their pathetic opening offer for Lacazette. They really are a bizarre club with weird fans.

Thing is.... Lacazette is probably worth about that, he didn't even get into the France euros squad.

Mahrez is African footballer of the year, PFA player of the year. Just look through the list of those previous winners, he's currently one of the best attacking midfielders in the world, that's a Fact.

Hes worth £65million minimum. If he played for Man U and just helped them win the league with 17 goals and 11 assists they'd be talking 100million +

Personally Mahrez + Drinky = much more than Pogba.

This is spot on.

What concerns me is it would be easy for him to come out and say I'm staying. The fact he hasn't means he isn't sure. If a really big club wants him he's gone as would any other player. What angers me a bit is the club not being more aggressive when it comes to saying not for sale etc etc. The two best players in the league last year were Mahrez and Payet. Is this happening with their players?  Their owner valued him at £100 million. If that is the case then Mahrez is worth the same.

Incidentally, the piece on riyad and playing style over financial reward comes from djellit. This journo is close to riyad and his agent.

Translation not easy but it sort of intimates that things may not be done quickly. Still think this is about the clauses on his contract. No need to leak stuff if we are in negs with arsenal about a transfer.

could this rival the Maynard thread after quite a slow start??

Not sure what to think of this one, still don't think we would sell regardless of whether they offer or not. Ball is in our court on this one. A player like Mahrez doesn't need scouting, so leaving straight after he was subbed and smirking when asked about it seems like Wenger deliberately trying to draw attention to it, maybe trying to turn Mahrez's head.

No he doesn't, if Wenger wasn't there to formulate a gameplan for when we play you (he said he was there for that and 'another reason' by one account), he was there to either meet with Leicester Management or meet Mahrez with Leicester's full consent. He doesn't need to use such a manner to turn Mahrez's head, he just needs to contact his agent, which he's able to do without 'tapping up'.

EDIT - the other option is he had a meeting with PSG or one of their players, seems unlikely after he left when Mahrez came off though

How many pages did the Maynard thread hit?

I think you're probably right on his valuation.

However, when another club has already had a bid rejected, what could possibly be going through your mind to bid less than the first offer?! It can only be arrogance and belief that it will unsettle the player and get him to try and force a move- massive risk of not signing him, and for what? A few million quid, back pocket change these days. This, from the club who charge the highest ticket prices in world football. No wonder their fans are all complete window lickers, they're a joke and it would drive you mad.

Time for the club to put its foot down and say he is not going anywhere.

That is so easy to do but may have implications. They are trying to keep Mahrez long term. If they go heavy handed on him they might make him want to go.

He can contact his agent without it being 'tapping up'?

he can't but he would. That is tapping up. You will struggle to prove it but it goes on all the time.

lcfc and senior staff were in LA whilst arsenal were there. No reason to go to a game to see them.

And no reason to stay at the game after the myriad of subs. Not going to learn anything.

I think he may want to play a more central role as out on the wing he is getting marked by 2 or 3 and they know what he is going to do. I think that's what he may mean. We do expect a lot of him defensively when all his quality is going forward

I think that regardless of what he signs we'll be on the same merry go round every year if not every window

In his defence he's currently negotiating a new contract (with us or elsewhere). He's hardly going to reveal his one card thus weakening his ability to play both parties off against each other.

Makes it rubbish for us as fans, but if any of us were in a similar position we'd do the same.

So Wenger is there to meet our officials... does he negotiate his own transfers now. That's crap, so is the idea of him being given permission to speak to one of our players... because teams always invite people over to chat to their players just after they've played a game.

Vardy could have done the same, but then he'd be sat here on 60k a week instead of 100k. Purely from a personal point of view, when negotiating the best thing to do is leak stuff about a move as it strengthens your hand in negotiations.
