Both weren't great either... both did the same things, lampard and Gerrard could never play together, and scholes got put to the left and decided to retire. we haven't appointed a manager who is willing to look beyond the sponsorship deals...

mourinio would have been great if it wasnt for man utd takeing him

If we want someone English, we could do a lot worse than Gary Neville leading a team including the likes of Shearer, Southgate, Wright, Pearce and Carragher.

It'd never happen, but its a mix of tactics and passion.

We could, and have, done a hell of a lot worse.

Make that one.

Gary Neville?

Gary Neville that couldnt get a performance from Valencia?

Gary Neville that couldnt get the players to defend a throw in?

Gary Neville thats just been part of one of the most embarrasing defeats the world of football has ever seen?

Really?

People seem dead set on an Englishman.

Eddie Howe? Hahahahaha

Let's face it, whoever gets the job will fail.

Peter Crouch touched on it before the game until he was rudely interrupted by Lee Dixon, we rank ourselves alongside Germany, Spain and France. Why? We're shit.

Jesus Christ could manage us and we still wouldn't get past a bloody quarter final.

Claudio would sort this shit out but we ain't letting him go. At least Claudio would send Walsh watching every team in England rather than just watching Spurs every week. I bet Roy is more gutted about having his Spurs season ticket revoked than losing his job

Not too long ago my list of decent managers who were inexplicably out of a job and should be crowbarred into Roy's role ASAP but we all know the FA will do FA about it was 2 people long.  Since Derby have halved my list all that remains is Pellegrini.

Preki's been waiting for this moment.

Sad list of candidates. Who would want to actually manage us?

We need someone who can deal with BS and call players out on the spot if need be.

Gotta think who fits the mold.

We're going to get another yes man. We'll hype up the crocked, bottling losers who get picked before they crash out early again while winners are sat at home or on holiday. Rinse and repeat.

I'm not going to get my hopes up anymore. Fvck international football. Too infuriating.

Is this what being a Spurs fan is like?

It literally doesn't matter. Unless someone, somewhere can shake up the FA to its rotten core, it will go on and on and on and on.

In my lifetime, the only real success we've had was under Sir Bobby Robson and El Tel Venables. Two blokes who had enough about them individually to get the players on their side and not be swayed by the FA.

Hodgson was a puppet, a has been, dining greatly on his lucrative contract and nodding in all the right places. A sham and a charlatan.

I didn't realise Woy was in the Charlatans Col? Great group

Eddie Howe all day for me.  Young, plays good fast paced attacking football and has done an excellent job with Bournemouth.  Will have no problems gaining the respect of the dressing room.

Only issue for me though is can he kick some arse when he needs to?  Roy was too much of a nice guy and it showed on the pitch.  Players did not go to war for him.

Big Sam over Howe all day.

Dealt with big players, wealth of experience

And above all else, isnt too proud to go a bit more direct, throw it in the box if needed, play to our strengths of physicality and pace at times

Would be  the obvious Englishman

Yeah, because long aimless balls worked well tonight.

Didnt say that.

I talked about playing direct. Moving the ball quickly and with purpose. Crossing the ball and getting set pieces right at both ends.

We need a manager who isn't afraid to drop big players who are under performing and for me the majority on that list wouldn't do that. The two that would and wouldn't give a shit what the FA think of it would be Pearson and Allardyce, so either of them would do for me.

Any thoughts on Rafa Benitez?

A step up from Newcastle, could work with big name players, wouldn't take shit from the FA.

Has his flaws granted, but I would say better than anyone on the current list.

i think the fa will favour someone who will be really grateful to be given the opportunity rather than someone who they'd have to "persuade"

thats the way the fa work.

so i fully expect it to be a southgate/neville type appointment.

To be honest, that list isn't exactly inspiring now is it.

Just a few other names:

• Slaven Billic

• Rafael Benitez

• Manuel Pellegrini

• Jorge Sampaoli

• Laurent Blanc

• Carlo Ancelotti

• Unai Emery

• Massimiliano Allegri

• Diego Simeone

• Alex Ferguson - roll him out of retirement!!!

• Andre Villas-Boas

• Jugen Klingsmann

• Stuart Pearce

Surprised Karl Robinson, Paul Ince, Neil Warnock or Peter Taylor aren't on the list. They seem to make every other next manager odds

He'd be my choice now to be honest. Tactic ms wise, more aware.

Unfortunately it has to be non-english/foreign, there are simply no competent English candidates.

I really think hope that if we appoint Southgate the attendances at Wembley drop through the floor and 20k turn up. A brand new low if we get him.

Based on what? 3 wins in 16 as Valencia coach, no clean sheets in that time, why should he be fast tracked to the England job.

It'd never happen, but its a mix of tactics and passion.

We could, and have, done a hell of a lot worse.

Please God, not Neville or Southgate.

It'll start all over again.
