MC Prussian Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 Dallas police reports that two snipers have shot at least eleven police officers during a protest rally against the recent police brutality in Louisiana and Minnesota, killing three and severely injuring another three, two have to undergo surgery; two of the deceased were from the regular police force, one victim part of the Transport Police. There was also a bomb threat. First of all, snipers in Dallas... Hmm... 1963, anyone? I do seriously hope this is not the start of a greater and bloody civil war within the States. I saw the YouTube video of the Minnesota incident somebody had put up and it's devastating. The girl has to watch her boyfriend die from police bullet wounds, bleeding to death as she's still sat right next to him in the passenger seat of a car that was pulled over for a broken tail light. And all her boyfriend wanted was to get his driver's license... Obama does need to deliver a powerful message to calm things down. http://abc7chicago.com/news/police-10-officers-shot-3-killed-by-snipers-during-dallas-protest/1418221/ EDIT: Police have confirmed the death of a fourth officer.
leicsmac Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 Yup, because taking potshots at cops and sticking several of them in the hospital and a few in the ground is a fantastic way to protest police brutality. For goodness sake.
Ross-Kemp Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 Stay safe MC. Unfortunately I can see this being the start of something very sinister in the states.

For goodness sake. Oh come on, I would be very, very surprised if this had anything to do with the Black Lives Matter campaign. Just some absolute scumbag terrorists jumping on the opportunity to stoke up more racial tension and hatred across the States. It's been reported that these cops were being hit with military precision. That sort of preparation and 'skill' suggests it was hardly an emotional reaction to recent days.
Samilktray Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 That police officer executing that innocent black guy was pretty fvcked up wasn't it.

Straight retaliation for the guys being killed by the cops is an easy conclusion to jump to here but it might not be the right one. Either way, whoever did this knows that it would inflame and escalate things drastically.

It's far more likely to be some opportunistic nutters terrified of multiculturalism and integrated of multiple races.
StanSP Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 wtf is happening man. what is this going to do? what did they think they'd get out of it?

Xen Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 I'm inclined to agree with @C-man here and say I really doubt it is. It's far more likely to be some opportunistic nutters terrified of multiculturalism and integrated of multiple races. The protest itself was by all accounts incredibly peaceful with officers happily chatting with participants and even posing for friendly photos with them/their signs, and the incident happened AFTER the protest started to dissipate and people were heading home. Its highly, highly unlikely that this has anything at all to do with the BLM movement. If it does, then the perpertrators are to BLM what ISIS are to Islam, terrorists with a warped extremist version of the beliefs/meanings/ideologies of the actual group. Although that won't stop a good portion of America using this incident to apportion blame unfairly, of course. America is split, and it only seems to be getting worse... RIP to those who lost their lives doing their duty, thoughts are with their families, as well as the other victims who have been seriously injured.
foxoffderby Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 Ive been to the States many times but with whats been going on recently no longer feel safe visiting. Americans go on about ISIS and war on terror and whats happening in Europe and the Middle East but they need to have a long hard look at their home grown problems.
yorkie1999 Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 None of this stuff went on before we all had mobile phones.....

Guest MattP Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 I don't see any end to this, it's almost too far gone to now be stablised. A cruel irony that the end of the first black president's reign also sees the worse race relation tensions since the MLK days.
Thracian Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 Wonder where the US would stand in a league table of the world's biggest nuthouses?
Guest Col city fan Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 When I was a little kid I'm sure that if anything like this made the news, it was MASSIVE news. It would scare people, it would be talked about for weeks after. Nowadays, situations like this amidst so many others have become commonplace. So much so, that the surprise factor had turned on its head. We are now surprised if some 'catastrophe' HASN'T happened in a few weeks. Looking back, probably the main stuff that made the headlines was all the IRA stuff. That was terrible of course, but with a few exceptions, was relatively confined geographically. Of course, there was all the football violence too. Now, terrorismin its various guises is commonplace. It's become 'the norm' to read and hear about such and such going on, again and again and again. Maybe it's always happened? Maybe it's now about having greater access to so many forms of media that it's just reported more? But if this is somehow seen as 'modernisation', take me back to when I was a kid and genuine became scared when the Embassy was sieged in London. What is this world coming to.....

I'd be interested to hear your take on the deeper reasoning behind this, Matt - if you are willing.
Guest MattP Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 I'd be interested to hear your take on the deeper reasoning behind this, Matt - if you are willing. I'll try quickly as I'm off out, I think it all stems from mistrust really, that's the most basic answer I can give, it's clear in a lot of places in the country the distrust between black people abd the police has never gone away, now with Social Media we can see it in all its form, there are black people who despise and hate the police and it's not hard to see why when videos emerge of unarmed black people running away from white coppers and are shot dead. The police in the US clearly has a huge problem with race, although it's problems are also just as big with corruption and incompetence. The police clearly are going to be more quick with a trigger if in the back of their minds they know how many cops get killed and the likelihood of a criminal being armed is pretty high. Black people still don't believe they can achieve their goals (see some black activists still accuse Barack of not being black enough) despite the nation having a black president, I don't really see what more they can do on that anymore, if anything it's an issue of rich v poor as much as anything, you don't rich black or white men getting shot by the police, in fact a rich black or white man can often walk away from court despite obvious guilt ie OJ Simpson I don't think this will stop on the basis of any affirmitive action, any gun laws, more white people are still killed by police than black people but the huge news it now makes whenever it's white on black is going to keep stirring this, I see no end to it whatsoever and it's quite frigtening.
Guest MattP Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 That's a rambling shit post actually that's far too simplistic, I'll give you my thoughts on it this weekend or early next week.
