Pre season done and dusted

So that was preseason, thoughts?

Hinestly excited for the new season.

For the first time I can remember I think we have 2 genuinely class players for each position.

Tough choices to be be made now though.

Keeper: think Kasper just gets the nod, maybe because of familiarity but wouldn't be disappointed if Zieler got a run, looks a class back up.

Fullbacks: it looks to me like we are favouring Chilwell to start, having started every preseason game there.

On the other side Simpson is possibly the better defender but Amarty could offer more on the ball and going forwards.

Both full backs more than happy with either starting.

Huth and Morgan remain first choice CB, but we have more than adequate replacements waiting to go.

Midfield is the interesting one and my only concern as I cannot see a partnership developing yet.

Mahrez starts on one wing and Drinky in the middle. The other two slots are wide open.

Up front can Vardy and Musa work together or too similar? I liked the look of Shinji with Musa and think he will stay in the number 10 role.

Overall not the greatest results but really no one would be shocked if PSG played Barca in the champions league final this year. Two genuine world class oppositions and we had chances and scored goals.

Looking forward to Sunday now and seeing how we go against United.

Leaking loads of goals.. 10 in 4 preseason games isn't encouraging.

Searching for a solution/formation post Kante is proving a challenge. Mendy is clearly not a direct replacement. Amartey is certainly not a right back,  but perhaps could play in a midfield 3?

Can Musa and Vardy play together?.. They look too similar for me.

Simpson needs replacing,  but we have no right back option!.. Hernandez isn't a full back either!

Still so many unanswered questions going into the new season,  hope some of them are answered against United on Sunday!

Enough of the positives, we need to address all the negative crap like how Musa only scored 2 against Barcelona?!

I simply do not know how weller remains so upbeat! Let us in on your secret!

I personally think this has been one of the worst pre seasons we've had in years.

Before people start, not based on results! Results are slightly irrelevant in friendlies. But it feels like we've barely got going yet, rather than prepping for potentially the biggest season in the clubs history I feel as if it's been one big marketing scheme trying to cash in from last seasons success rather than focusing on what's coming.

Of course I have full faith in :cap: but it feels like we are little off the pace, wether that's fitness or jet lag from travelling? Who's first choice GK? Vardy has only just returned (I know euros and surgery), Mahrez hasn't got many minutes under his belt, defence seems very unstable.

I don't want to be all doom and gloom, there's has also been few positives to take away with performances from Shinji, Drinky, Musa, Gray, Hernandez but does feel like we're not quite ready yet? Hopefully I'm wrong.

Forget the other BS...I want to see Vardy, Musa, Mahrez start together. Its mouthwatering.

Then lets see if it gels..or even jells!!

Right back and possibly another striker or if we have someone in mind a Kante replacement, otherwise i'm fairly happy. Get that defence back on the same drills we had them on last season though.

My view of pre-season is that it shouldn't be over-analysed. I fully understand the desire of fans to make projections about how they think the season will go, who will do well, what we need to change and what not - I'm one of them myself! - but for a number of reasons I don't think friendlies are particularly informative to us here.

Musa looks like a goalscorer, the players who didn't feature much last season have showed promise, our midfield probably won't be as solid without Kante are things I'd suggest but I'll wait until at least the first five games are over until I make any serious conclusions.

If you mean permanently that really is a baffling thing to say.

Think you make a good point here but it's part and parcel of being a top club. The ICC and games in Asia / USA are all about commercialism and known to be a distraction to getting ready. Look at Mourinho complain about Man United's trip to China last week as a classic example. The games aren't good for getting a squad ready and I think the team don't quite look at it yet. However, we've got some time to go and a great sports science team, so keep the faith!

For me the biggest worry is of course Kante leaving. I feel we may have missed a trick with Gueye signing for Everton. He might be an "inferior" Kante, but is probably the most like-for-like replacement we could have got. My biggest fear is that not only have we lost an amazing player but we might not be able to play the same way. So for me I would love to see the club go for broke for someone like William Carvalho or Axel Witsel. Even they aren't really the same, but do have proven pedigree at the top level. The plan was always to have Mendy to improve the depth of the squad, so feel like we are still one short in that department. Doubt we'll get anyone, but that's where I'd invest.

On the plus side the squad as a whole is surely the strongest it's ever been. Seeing Musa tonight got me very excited!

Will be interesting to see how the season starts. Realistically we've probably witnessed the greatest moment in our club's history and won't come close again, but I really hope I am wrong and we can kick on again!

We haven't played enough games.

Hernandez looked good at centre half (he is not a full back), finding a replacement for Kante is going to be difficult although I think Amertey may get the nod. Drinkwater looked solid, especially last night. Shinji needs to start - he offers so much in the whole behind the striker.

Musa needs to be down the middle but I don't know what formation we're going to play. Musa, Vardy, Mahrez, Gray and Albrighton are not all going to fit into a team.

Gonna be a lot of chopping and changing this season. Don't think we'll be playing the same team for 38 games in a row like last season.

I think we'll start with a 4-4-2 but with Musa instead of Vardy and Mendy instead of Kante against Hull.

Vardy looked miles off the pace last night.

personally think that pre-season is not over.

Manure is another pre-season game and not a big deal.

Hull is when the season starts. And I think we'll tear them a new one.

Also Drinky has looked worldly.

My view of pre-season is that it hasn't finished yet ! Hull is still 9 days away and there's one more glorified friendly to go to be ready for that Hull game. Not the Man U game, much as I'd like us to win it.

Why is the charity shield looked at as a friendly,it's a chance of silverwear,

1 of 5 trophy's to win,

something the club can proudly parade in the trophy cabinet which lets be honest, isn't overstocked,

this means a lot to me as it shows how far we've come, wasn't long ago the best chance of silverwear was winning the Pepsi cup,

we should embrace and enjoy these moments cuz it might not happen again

If you want to put round pegs in round holes and put two 11's down on paper (442's), then we still need another right back IMO.

If Simpson had a long term injury once the window is closed, I think the top sides would certainly focus their attacking efforts down that side, with only a makeshift right back to stop them.  Is that a risk we are willing to take?

Out of interest how many 1st team friendlies did we play last season? I don't think it was many more than we've played this preseason. The ICC was kind of a necessity to boost our global name and anyone who thinks we shouldn't or needn't of done that are failing to grasp the opportunity we have of becoming a powerful club. We need the shirt sales, we need the sponsorship deals and we need all the ammo we can get to take it up a level, this is how we get to compete with the big boys. We then get fat sponsorships that allow us to spend obscene money on players and comply with the bullshit that UEFA and the FA set out.

still over a week to go, ok the community shield isn't exactly a friendly but its probably the best thing we can ask for rather than the so call glamour game that we usually get where its played at half pace. The lads are going to be well up for it why wouldn't they! I fully expect us to be prepared for the new season and have full faith we will be.

The league isn't won in the first month or so!!.

Not too fussed about the leaking goals tbh, we were leaking goals like mad at the start of last season and it made no difference to the outcome.

We've got good competition for places and our new signings have looked decent.

We all know that if we want to sit at the top table, tours like the ICC are a must, it certainly isn't ideal granted.

The pro's of the old fashioned pre-season, ie being in the uk and playing local games, is that you do see more of the ball, and create more chances etc, meaning people can get a bit sharper. Plus you can send a mixed side of youth and senior to game on the same day or 24 hours apart if needed.

I think the biggest trick we have missed is not arranging maybe a low key game against a MLS or lower team whilst in the states, we have basically travelled half way round the world for 90 mins, when maybe we could have taken a few of the younger lads and inler, moore etc and got 1 or 2 extra 90 mins under peoples belts.

However, I still think claudio will have them up and running come sunday and play something close to the 11 we will see at hull.

Because it technically is a friendly. Teams are allowed 6 subs. Sure, it is silverwear, but I'd rather advance one round further in the CL then win it.

please now lets stuff the mancs and make jose look in awe at our team, i'd start with chilwell he deserves his chance but claudio will need to keep him out of the firing line from time to time, upfront i think he may prefer to play shinji with vardy and then swap vardy eith musa and probably the usual shinji off ulloh on.in midfield we will probably start with king and drinky in central midfield and bring mendy on perhaps.we now have plenty more options it is just a question of utilising them

We haven't played enough games. As you say the ICC was a boost but I'd prefer us to play local teams teams where it's a stroll for fitness, won't get hammered (morale etc) and we can all actually go. ICC is a load of shite just for even more money.

Last season we played Lincoln, Mansfield, Burton, Rotherham and Birmingham I think. (DId we play Northampton too?).

I never know how much to read into pre-season form, that said until the second half last night I wasn't overly confident. Not too sure why mind, Oxford aside we played a Celtic team who already had competitive games under their belt, a PSG team who had already beat Inter & Madrid and Barca so I not sure what we can really tell from those games which informs opinions or knowledge going into Hull next week.

Sunday should be more telling. It has the feel of a more competitive outing, the whole squad is now back and training and I imagine we'll approach it as if its a league game. Looking forward to it.
