DOESN'T THIS AMOUNT TO TAPPING UP??

KANTE'S NO WAY JOSE

N’Golo Kante has revealed how he snubbed Jose Mourinho’s pleas to join him at Manchester United in favour of Chelsea

N’GOLO KANTE has told how he snubbed Jose Mourinho this summer.

The Manchester United boss called the France midfielder, 25, trying to persuade him to swap Leicester for Old Trafford.

He wanted Kante to be the fulcrum of his new-look side and was willing to pay £25million-plus for him.

But despite the personal plea, Kante turned his back on the Special One.

And he then revealed he was bowled over by Antonio Conte’s Chelsea project as he agreed his switch to West London.

Kante said: “It was amazing to have Mourinho call me, even though I’d been warned before how he would appeal to me.

“I listened to his arguments about why I should move to United.

“But at that time I was hesitant between staying at Leicester or leaving for Chelsea.

“My discussions with them were already well underway. But when I spoke, I had a good feeling with Conte.”

That good feeling eventually turned into a £29m deal taking him to Stamford Bridge.

It also represented the first win, so far, for Conte over his illustrious Chelsea predecessor.

Kante added: “At Chelsea I’m in a star-studded dressing room.

“Being the star of the game doesn’t interest me. That’s the highest level, unless you have exceptional qualities.

“Yes, I feel I’m a pretty complete player, but I’m not an outstanding player.

“Someone like Riyad Mahrez, yes, he has a real technical talent.”

I thought the same he had been tapped up, but I suppose the clause in his contract means he could speak to anyone.

As far as I understand it means he can speak to anyone once they have met the asking price.

It's maybe a bit late in the day to bring this up, but i am completely nonplussed by Kante's quoted reasons for moving, and nothing has come to light to make them any more believable.

He says he was blown away by Conte's enthusiasm and the vision of his fantastic project.

He has spent the last year under the influence of Ranieri - surely someone no less enthusiastic, who has been instrumental in the development of Kante, allowing him the freedom to play to his strengths, and bringing him to international prominence.

As for this project, how can it be any more exciting than the one at Leicester. The owner's have the highest ambitions and the resources to achieve them. He wants to play alongside quality players - well the quality of the players in our squad has improved dramatically and will continue to do so.

Moreover, the project at Leicester is at least a year in advance of that at Chelsea, and however many believe that Chelsea will immediately get back to being in Europe year on year, there are no guarantees in football. The only certainty is that we are in Europe this season, and Chelsea are not.

Finally, Kante seems to have completely ignored the fact that he was already part of the Leicester project and has left unfinished business here. Why wouldn't he want to try to see it through?

His "explanation" is so incomprehensible that the only conclusion I can come to is that his decision was to do with money, and nothing else, and maybe prompted by an unscrupulous agent.

He wanted to play for a "big club", the other excuses are a load of shite!

Think back to when he joined us, he had to be convinced. His aims were always beyond us and we were merely a stepping stone. I do not hold that against him because he gave his all for us and was instrumental to our success. I can only thank him for that and could not fault his commitment nor attitude. I wish him the very best.

When he joined us his attitude was shaped by where we were at that time - a club which narrowly escaped relegation and lost their manager. The status and expectation of our club has changed beyond all recognition since then. Does he not see that?

Perhaps he does see that but equally we don't know of his ambitions before signing for us. Why assume that our rise should change his goals?

Just watched Chelsea-Burnley on iPlayer. Still pissed off. I know I need to get over it. Still say what I said earlier. Why Chelsea? Manure I could understand. Barca, Real, yes. But Chelsea? The club of the honourable John Terry? FFS.

My hope is that (knowing Conte's form in Italy) things start not going entirely to plan and he loses the plot.  I would genuinely love to see Conte's fantastic project* crash and burn. Won't happen, but I can dream.

Admit to being ridiculously bitter and twisted but that's it. Done and dusted. No more on the subject.

Don't disagree with that. Of course it was for himself (and I don't hold that against him either) but we undoubtedly benefited from it. Win win.

He should have at least given us a year in the Champions League and thank him them for being a hero. For now though, really couldn't give a monkeys if he messes up at Chelsea and gets injured.   Think he will get booed here in his return.

Is it me, or is the title of this topic "Time to let go...Kante", the opposite of what people are doing?

And only encouraging more discussion on a subject that none of us have any control over.

I am really proud to have had a player like him at the club, even if only for one season. We don't get many talents like him. He left for a bigger club (please note that I haven't put bigger club, in quotation marks, because they are. In financial, success and supporting terms), that's what happens when the big clubs realize these talents. It happens world over.

No point having sour grapes about it, lets just get on with it. I'd love for us to be the ones poaching worldies, but we haven't built that status yet and players are still going to be cautious about joining us, in case we are "one season wonders" (Yes I have put that in quotation marks, because I don't believe it to be true).

Its therapeutic ....    I'm nearly there.    Thanks and goodbye ...   and I hope Chelsea have a sh1t season.   :)

I've let go, Kanté last season was one of the players last season to genuinely make me go wow, how has he done that, after appearing with the ball out of nowhere, then driving forward and starting an attack after us being under it, like a Mahrez dribble and goal, Fuchs no look pass for Vards record vs United, a Drink Dink, or JV's half volley vs Liverpool, all things I will never forget! Amarteys performance vs Swansea was almost Kanté-esque and has gone a long way to putting it to bed, as me old Dad from Coalville used to say, "Son one swaller dunt mek a summer!" no it "dunt" but it's a start.

I had let go of Kante, and then I found this thread :o, now I'm convinced he's a money grabbing freak of nature with loyalty to no one (*and a cnut).....

Are people here such samaritans that they would turn down a £150K weekly offer ?

You do realise that is a difference of more than £12M from his salary here over the span of his next contract duration.

If we were realy serious about keeping him, we should have offered to raise his wages up to £120K minimum,

that is what it takes to retain a worldclass player in your squad.

Ferwell to him, he played a tremendous part in our lengendary achievment last season and should be remembered as such for the time being.

When I saw his quotes the other day I was quite happy. I'm amazed his comments have been so angrily received here. It clearly sounds like he was only going to go elsewhere if the whole package was just right, to the point that he put us above Man Utd. Not bad for a young man we know was never fully settled here. Obviously Conte wowed him, as he has many others already. If I was offered 5x my wage by a boss who inspired me, I'd probably go too. He suggests it wasn't an easy decision to move too, unlike some on here seem to assume.

For those suggesting he's a bit dim/slow, did you see him play last season. I saw an intelligence I've never witnessed before. His only possible error is that he's been so honest here, which I personally find quite refreshing.
