SystonFox Posted 21 September 2016 Posted 21 September 2016 Can you get tattoos done in white? Or pink? like generally tattoos are ALWAYS done in that dark grey / black and it looks a bit shit. i know tattoos can get filled in and colour added but has anyone ever seen a white tribal tattoo down a blokes forearm or something.
Alf Bentley Posted 21 September 2016 Posted 21 September 2016 It's actually compulsory to have a tattoo in certain occupations. The massed pipe and drum bands of the Royal Highland Fusiiers.......jobs like that.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 21 September 2016 Posted 21 September 2016 It's a bit ridiculous to get a skull tattooed on your face with worms underneath your eyes and then complain that nobody will employ you in hospitality.

Should be helpful when applying for work in cemeteries, though.

Wymsey Posted 22 September 2016 Posted 22 September 2016 What does the tattooed Leicester drummer do for a job? That big lcfc logo on his back should make him employable to every Leicester firm alone.
Dan Posted 22 September 2016 Posted 22 September 2016 If it was up to me, I wouldn't really give a shit about the actual tattoos themselves as I don't have any issue with them, I'd be results and performance focused as opposed to appearance (then again I've never worked anywhere where the two are linked). Think Captain's post made a good point though. People with them got them knowing about the potential it has to work against them, and that's the root of the issue.
Carl the Llama Posted 22 September 2016 Posted 22 September 2016 Know many people with tattoos, it's highly common these days. Been thinking of getting one myself but I can't think of anything I truly want drawn me for the rest of my life, best I've come up with so far is a fox tail winding its way up my arm leading to the body of a crouching fox down the side of my torso but that would have to be in colour to look good, it would cost a fortune and I'm not sure I trust any artist enough not to make it look shit anyway so that ain't happening any time soon. Obviously art is subjective but as long as the work is 'tasteful' and/or easily coverable there's not really an issue in my eyes. Indeed in the latter case there's no reason for your employer to be made aware so just be sensible about it. Like others have intimated: If you get a weird or hard to cover tattoo then you have no grounds for complaint unless your complaint hinges on the notion that you're a naive, narcissistic idiot with a poor comprehension of the realities of life.

I'm pretty sure airlines stipulate that you have no visible tattoos and can fire you if you break that condition. The morality of it is questionable, but in the same way they can insist you where the correct and appropriate clothes they can insist on the correct accessories. It has nothing whatsoever to do with sexuality, skin colour, gender or anything else that you are born with or have acquired through no fault of your own, such as a skin condtion or scar. It is a clear choice to get a tattoo in a visible place and it has consequences, these are known by anyone except the most dense. I don't want to employ the most dense. I've always been of the opinion that Tattoos show a distinct lack of intelligence. As a CEO I can tell you I only ever employed one person with Tattoos and that was for a maintenance job.

Visible ones particularly as there isn't really an issue if you don't see them. But I just don't understand why people put their health and well being at risk for a Tattoo. I also know someone who came within a whisker of losing her leg from a Dye infection.

I hope you need to call in a some of these guys n gals, when your in a fix..
Clever Fox Posted 22 September 2016 Posted 22 September 2016 No, My own Father was a maintenance worker and he was one of the most intelligent people I've ever met. But then he didn't have any tattoos either.

I think you're mistaking the perceived truth that people of low intelligence have tattoos, for people with tattoos have low intelligence. I know several people of extremely high intelligence that have tattoos. Discreet ones, granted. You're way behind the times if you think having a tattoo defines you as unintelligent and/or working class. Possibly the type of tattoo, and where it's situated may still do that, but not having one per se.

I know what I said is a bit if a generalisation, But I can't see why any intelligent person would want to put their health at risk. There's so many Bugs and Diseases trying to enter the body and attack you from within. Why would you want to prod it with needles and Dyes from god know where. As I said that girl I knew almost lost her leg form Dye. None of the Treatments were working and she was told if the last treatment didn't work then the only option was Amputation. Thankfully it did work. She was on Crutches for nearly twelve months. During the time of the infection her leg muscles all wasted away and she had Months o Physio trying to build it up again. The leg has never been right since. Health is precious and should never be taken for granted.
Guest MattP Posted 23 September 2016 Posted 23 September 2016 I have two tattoos and both would always be covered up when in public, provided I had a shirt on. Captain pretty much nailed it in his first post, if you are that stupid to get tattoos in visible places like face/neck etc then you probably won't be the brightest employee of the group applying anyway.

Cross threading here, but would you rather employ someone with a face tattoo or someone who wears a veil?

Neither, but if I had to push I'd go with the face tattoo as at least they aren't deliberetely trying to shut you out.

If someone hasn't got enough security around their social media accounts to prevent an interviewer finding out anything other than elementary stuff about them then quite frankly they probably don't deserve to get hired anyway.

It's this reason the only online presence I have is on foxestalk. No Facebook or twitter, bloody hard going though when everything is "contact us through Facebook or twitter" etc. I just really don't see why people put their lives out there for everyone to see. Back to tattoos I have quite a few, all covered up when I wear a shirt, I wouldn't want to hire someone with a face or neck tattoo, just something that makes you think "tw@t" when you see someone who has willingly done that to a part of themselves you see constantly.
