Bazly Posted 15 October 2016 Posted 15 October 2016 We know that release clauses caused us grief in the Summer but with the state of the team at the moment and the tripling of the wage bill lets hope they put relegation clauses into the contracts otherwise we could end up with a stratospheric wage bill in the Championship. It is early days but the current form is definitely relegation zone. Maybe we should have done a Southampton and sold all the top layer in the Summer and bought in a lot of fresh talent, it would be difficult to envisage it could have gone any worse than the actual start we have managed. A lower wage bill and £100mil in the bank. January is now key, we need to be able to replace Huth, Morgan, Simpson, Amartey and Albrighton with better alternative. Only Schmeichel, Fuchs, Drinkwater, Mahrez (glimpses) and Slimani have look effective this season so far and that not enough players turning up for a Premier League outfit to survive as a Premier League outfit.
Guest Col city fan Posted 15 October 2016 Posted 15 October 2016 Most posters on here , I believe, were celebrating the new, massive contracts for their heros. Since they've gotten them, they've been a shadow of their former selves, except Drinkwater.

If we were battling as we expected, not a complaint to be found.
Matt Posted 15 October 2016 Posted 15 October 2016 It was a worry, despite being happy when Vardy finally made his decision he was staying I did say if it was a case of money he could go. Whilst it probably sounds like i'm picking on Vardy atm (with valid reason I believe) if we didn't give in to Vardy's demands and let him go other players probably wouldn't be on the mega bucks they now are, that's not saying they wouldn't have got new contracts with improved wages but they couldn't demand what Vardy is earning if we didn't cave in to the demands. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. And to think he's slagging Cambiasso off for earning above everyone else....

Your tampon needs changing, we're not getting relegated. The only players who should have been put on big contracts in the summer were Vardy, Mahrez, Kante, Drinkwater and Schmeichel. These were our key players, the rest of them were replaceable, if any of the other players were put on silly contracts that no other club in the world would pay them then we've shot ourselves in the foot. I've no idea what Simpson, Albrighton and Morgan got but they weren't in a position to demand mega money.
VLC86 Posted 15 October 2016 Posted 15 October 2016 Said at the time it was an impossible situation, the only way from the top is down but you either lose the players or pay up.

To be fair col, after the emotional season last season, we all got carried away, even the club giving out these new contracts or rather the size, to players who had the potential to be 1 season wonders.
Wes Posted 15 October 2016 Posted 15 October 2016 We have had pretty tough fixtures so far. Let's judge half way through the season and see where we are. Bring on the CL on Tuesday :-D
Livid Posted 15 October 2016 Posted 15 October 2016 I'm beginning to think that after last year's lack of bonuses we may have put the emphasis on CL progress this year.
jayfox26 Posted 15 October 2016 Posted 15 October 2016 Thing is do we blame the players? Is it the contracts that have gone to their heads? Or is a lot of it simply down to Ranieri not getting his tactics right this season. Ranieri cannot be blamed for the ridiculously poor goals we've conceded today and against Untied but he can be blamed for sticking with the 4-4-2 which clearly won't work. Chelsea completely overran us in midfield today as united did and Liverpool did. Surely at some point the manager needs to realise his tactics aren't working and we can't keep playing the same system as last season as we don't have kante and teams have got wise to the system.
SheppyFox Posted 15 October 2016 Posted 15 October 2016 if they cant do the job move them on and get people that can
Fox92 Posted 15 October 2016 Posted 15 October 2016 We have been far too loyal to players who aren't good enough. Simple as that... We should have bought in a new centre back, right back and quality midfielder. But because we overachieved it was "ohh here you go boys anything you want"... Another problem is the wage rises. I said at the time and got laughed at but we shouldn't be paying certain players £100,000 a week. That's where trouble starts too. Drinkwater has been our best and only player this season. He's the one that has justified a new and/or better contract and that's all.

We shouldn't be paying that sort of money. People said 'we need to go to the next level' but going to the next level would be buying better players.
st albans fox Posted 15 October 2016 Posted 15 October 2016 The plan is to go on a European adventure. We wanted to do that with the same squad. those being paid a six figure sum are very saleable and to clubs who would be comfortable paying those wages.. Of those who have had a pay rise, I think only Wes might struggle to find a club willing to pay him the salary he commands here. (Circa 55k) i think we should be waiting until the end of November when we've had a run of winnable fixtures before we make too many judgements
WigstonWanderer Posted 15 October 2016 Posted 15 October 2016 I don't think anyone would pay Vardy 100k now, not for 5 years anyway.
Aus Fox Posted 15 October 2016 Posted 15 October 2016 as bad as we have played at time this season we are not going down. Look at the two games we have won, we are light years ahead of Burnley, Swansea and other teams in the bottom 6. We just need to relax, we have now played 3 of the top 6 away and been outclassed. All three of the traditional big teams have clearly not only wanted to beat us but humiliate us along the way. They have done this with a lot of help from us. In January a new CB clearly needs to come in as do a couple of CM allowing us the option to go to 3 in the middle. Lets not overreact
foxy boxing Posted 17 October 2016 Posted 17 October 2016 at worst we are a mid table premier league team who will not get relegated, but we want to be much much more than that.we want to be consistently challenging for the European places and be competitive in every match
