When You're Smiling

FCM any chance of this being bought up at your next meeting I believe you've had one this past week but WYS needs to be played pre kick off or as the game starts.

We have the Jersey Budd version and other versions on there, possibly a poll on the clubs website to decide which version we want as fans then go from there?

The Jersey Budd version got absolutely belted in Club 13 in Bruges just before kick off, it sounded fantastic. The 'traditional' version is getting better gradually but so many people either don't know the words or just can't be arsed.

Keep Right On just sung loud and clear by Birmingham fans now.

Not a particularly catchy tune and has more than six words. Embarrassing we don't belt WYS out with that passion.

WYS has got potential if we sang it right. Although it could take time, with patience I think we'd have our great anthem back again. I get the impression fans would be willing to sing it too. It needs prompting, however, prompting in the right way. No words on the screens or anything like that. A version at a good pace played through the speakers.

KRO at Birmingham is one of the best anthems in English football for me, with MOT up there too. It's a form of identity for clubs and it'd be nice if we could regain that.

Problems always the same.. it's sang at a different pace every time. A lot of people don't like the Jersey Budd version so that wont catch on. A video or decent version needs doing to encourage fans to sing it. If we could get it going before every home game it would be incredible.

The Jersey Budd version is a ****ing abomination that should be scrubbed from the history of music permanently.

This is the problem. You think it's crap so won't sing it, I think the old version is crap so I won't sing it. Magnify that though all the fans and no one wants to sing either.

Can we change theme, I'm sorry but it's a dirge.

It's so far away from being a dirge. It's a catchy tune that epitomises the many ups and downs of our great football club.

We own it and we should proudly sing it.

I'd absolutely like to belt Jersey Budd.

Depends, the original is catchy and uplifting. The Jersey Budd version is a dirge.

Any version of Hey Jude is a dirge, however.

The other part of the problem is that it's a completely inappropriate (musically) melody, it's not an anthem at any speed, that's always sounded shit.

The only reason people cling to it is they think it's some sort of club tradition that'd be awful to let go.

In my lifetime (93 Filbo to now) it's literally never sounded impressive.

If it wasn't for the fact nobody else sings it, nobody would care. I get wanting something unique and I'm as envious as anyone else of the likes of Lords My Shepherd, YNWA, Sunshine on Leith, but they're all solid, sing-a-long anthems.

The chant was for the period of the league one campaign and for the sven period. Felt since then the song hasn't been that popular.

What are you talking about. What the fvck has it to do with league one or Sven. It was huge in the 70's and 80's and I think it started in the 60's.

Far better that that shite we pinched from palace or whoever. It's ours its unique and we know who sang it first.

The problem with the Jersey Budd version isn't that it's the wrong tempo (which it is) or that he sounds like he's had seven pints of Stella and is shouting into the night (which it does).

The problem is that it's completely the wrong tune.

For those of you old enough to remember hymns at school, hearing Jersey Budd sing WYS is like hearing the "other" version of All Things Bright And Beautiful.

It's just wrong.

I' m with you, I can't stand the bloody song.  Dirge is exactly the correct word

This is more or less our only unique song which has survived (barely) from decades past. Personally I love it and think we really should try to embrace it to make it our anthem once again. We have so many copied chants and tunes which are average at best but WYS is our own. Can't understand those who don't want it.

Those who fail to learn from history........

Too right, like it or not it's our unique song & should be sung loud & proud at a more sedate speed as in every other teams anthems.  Im all for the new songs that are in the current repotoire, brilliant, keep em coming, but alongside the older songs as a nod to the past.

The impossible dream. Lyrically it's so so relevant and would sound fantastic if it caught on and everyone belted it out.

To reach the unreachable star. :D:scarf:
