Countryfox Posted 26 November 2016 Posted 26 November 2016 Could I pay to be an American citizen so that I don't get the third degree every time I travel over there .... and could I pay to be a German citizen so that the World cup is a lot more interesting ... and could I pay to be a New Zealand citizen so I can boast about my rugby team ... and could I pay to be a Romanian Gypsy so that when I'm hard up I can go into town and nick everyones mobile phone off them by pretending to ask for directions ... Good game this ..
foxile5 Posted 26 November 2016 Posted 26 November 2016 This is the zenith of capitalism. Take something away that doesn't exist, that is nothing more than a concept, and then charge people to retain the idea of the concept. The wider implications are, of course, staggering. 'Here, pay me £500 a year to be a member of our tax-favourable club...you don't have to but your life will be harder if you do.' It's a taxation on existence.

Strokes Posted 26 November 2016 Posted 26 November 2016 I wouldn't have a problem with that, I wonder what the price would be? I guess it would work like a dual nationality and could potentially help unite people or at least heal the rift. Why not?
Barky Posted 26 November 2016 Posted 26 November 2016 Seems like it would be useful for British people living in the eu but I can't see how it would benefit brits living in Britain.
Nick Posted 26 November 2016 Posted 26 November 2016 Cool - can I be sentenced under eu law for my crimes if I'm a memeber then? Where do I sign up? weirdly though, would this be a tax on me to visit Europe or would my membership have other perks? Never gonna happen. This morning I was looking at one of my old text books on core EU Law..... anybody who thinks getting out of the EU is a quick and simplistic job is crazy.... may well take years!

British law would take precedence I'm sure, same as you wouldn't get things like eu workers rights and you would probably still be banned, for your own good, from watching a bit of slap and tickle on pornhub.
The Blur Posted 26 November 2016 Posted 26 November 2016 I found it interesting that the proposal was put forward by Luxembourg MEP, what would be his motive given that Luxemborg is likely to stay in EU for a long time? I suspect it is both for financial benefits for EU and something to keep the concept of EU fresh in minds of UK citizens to lure them back in or something?

Or maybe he just thinks it would a good idea for people who voted In to keep their EU citizenship? There isn't always an ulterior motive behind everything politicians do.

foxy boxing Posted 28 November 2016 Posted 28 November 2016 everyone at the moment is looking to see if they have Irish ancestry, but we should remember we are all citizens of the world

Yeah definitely, if you think about that Labour party manifesto paper written in 1983 proposing we come out, they were even then talking about a future projection taking some time to be able to unpick ourselves out and safeguard against/make new legislation in place of what's missing..... It'll also I'm sure cost a fortune to implement both in setting up new protocols and the impact in the meantime. Not sure now the reality is hitting home, the government have got a clue how to move forward with this.
