Yup, it's really frustrating we messed up the Summer but I guess the club, and I, never expected our defence to go downhill so rapidly.

Maybe Hernandez will get a go in his actual position..

Last season we played to our strengths so the defence wasn't under anywhere near the pressure it is now . The difference this season is all down to the tactics and formations employed by the manager I'm afraid. Yesterday's formation being a point in case.

Trying to match the formation of Chelsea was like trying to make a silk purse out of a pig's ear, it was only going to end the way it did. And to cap it All Ranieri said we played well. Troubled times ahead indeed. But yes Igfualol I think it is time to play Hernandez in the position we brought him for.

He's got to make the bench first, having Weselewski on the bench with Simpson yesterday suggests he will only use him for back up right back.

We kept 2 clean sheets in a row in the league before today with them

Funny way of lucking at stats again - we conceded away at Everton in between, too. I know it's the FA Cup, but still... Can't just go with league games only.

The game at Middlesbrough was dire and neither team really went for it or did have great goalscoring chances.

The 1-0 home win against West Ham was also somewhat lucky.

Tough ask to use those two games in their favour. 34 goals against after 21 games isn't such a bad record, but it pales in comparison to last season.

And we're already conceding more goals against on average than we did in 2014/2015.

I think your first point is a very good one - last season we absolutely were quite positive and the style, set up etc was simple and effective. Even in the second half of the season when we not quite as attack minded we followed a simple formula with real organisation and getting out creative players on the ball in the right areas as frequently as we could.

Yesterday was quite concerning as I know it was Chelsea but they would definitely have been apprehensive after their last game and we should have gone for the jugular as then we could have tested their resolve especially with the noise around Costa. However, Claudio got it completely wrong and we were beaten easily without Courtois making a real save and without them having to get out of second gear.

My biggest concern is that the defence has looked poor all season but actually we do not really carry any threat or at least the chances we are creating are minimal. Vardy was isolated but even he looks frustrated and how Gray is not getting in without Mahrez I will never know as we have no threat ...Musa is just not up to it (yet...if I am being kind) and all in all I was so impressed when Claudio first started last season as tactically before and during games he was so astute......I am beginning to wonder if he has lost the direction he is taking us in and that is my biggest worry.

By the end of January/Early Feb we could be right in the frame for relegation than less he picks a system and gives the players the chance to play in it consistently.......

I do find it odd that the preferred option appears to be even older and slower.Hernandez may not have shone in his limited opportunities at CB. what have CR and CS seen on the training ground that leaves them preferring Was as sub?

It was clear last summer we needed back up at CB if that is not to be Hernandez who is to be Wes and Huth successors needs to be addressed a.s.a.p.

Good for you.

Still haven't seen anyone suggest any alternatives other than Hernandez who doesn't even make the bench at the moment.

Perhaps if the people in the jobs of scouting/getting players in had identified the issue in the summer there would be alternatives.

It's their job afterall...questions need to be asked of them.

Or maybe they did their bit but someone else wasn't prepared to pay what was required ?

Either way we're both surmising, ultimately there have been failures somewhere and those people/team need looking at/questioning and need to sort it out, quick.

Thats for sure ...   And I hope they can do it ...   But I think like you say they missed the boat and now everyone knows we're desperate and also, who wants to join a team in a relegation battle.

It's essential that Huth is replaced at the earliest opportunity

Personally I think Morgan is the one that need to be replaced first.

Atleast in the great escape season he was putting vital blocks in, not even doing that now.

The guy plays in virtually every game, flys all over to represent his country, has the added weight of being the captain, and has to think up speeches when the team wins an award  :)  ......

And Huths ankles are nearly shot ...    Or so my brother tells me ...        PANIC !

Morgan and Huth haven't been rotated all season. Add that to our lack of pre season & congested fixture list, its a lot of games for two ageing center backs. If they were rotated regularly im sure we'd see better performances from both.

My thoughts exactly.

Is Ranieri brave enough to drop Morgan is the question

I believe he is.  He benched Totti (notoriously talented and lazy, at the same time) when Ranieri felt he wasn't trying hard enough during training and gametime (to the screams and threats of the fanbase).

I believe he knows that both Morgan and Huth's careers are coming to an end.  I think Morgan in particular has lost his speed and quickness and positioning savvy.  I think his presence on the team is still very important.  I suppose we see him play less but not removed completely...if we can find a suitable replacement (which doesn't seem easy in this league).

Like rotating a pair of oil tankers, that's why.

Huth and Morgan have no competition. I have said it one and will say it again. How a premier league team has a 36 year old as cover given the money available to all clubs is criminal!

Ndidi looked pretty comfortable there and I doubt we'll always play three in the middle...

He did but it creates another problem when paired with Morgan - he's shifted over to the left which never ends well.

I don't see it as a problem as I don't see Morgan as undroppable. I appreciate Ranieri probably does mind.

Once we get the balance right in the CM Morgan and Huth wont be exposed as much as they have been the first half of this season.

but change if not in this transfer window is needed.

They are the typical strong, fancy a battle centre backs who will rough anyone about.

Keep the ball on the floor and pull them left, right and centre they look lost and are easily pulled out of position.

It doesn't matter how bad they perform, as nobody in the squad is pushing the two of them for a recall to the starting line up.

We do need a complete backline after this season, with Morgan, Simpson,Fuchs  probably being back up on long contracts at the club.

I see Huth as more of a comfortable CB with a younger player to learn from, as when Morgan has been without Hugh he has looked extremely average.

unless Claudio is willing to drop Wes Morgan what's the point buying a new CB just to sit on the bench, Huth is the best CB we have so has to play

we need an adequate backup for Huith and Morgan if not someone to replace one of them. at the moment their is no decent backup so if one gets injured we are really ******. Wazilewski just isn't mobile enough and will be rusty because of a lack of first team football. we need someone with a bit of pace in central defence and at the moment we don't have that

The way some of you melts are talking makes me chuckle.

If we had bought 2 new cbs in the summer and dropped huth and Morgan first game there would have been an uproar every time we let a goal in lol

Today we played against the best team in the league, they had 3 shots on target and scored 3 goals. 2 of them lucky as balls.

Calm the hell down.

Melts ffs?

Are you from Befnall Green?
