Gazza3 Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Is it me or is Vardy looking totally disinterested ? No pressure on keepers or defenders , not much closing down , makes the occasional run but not much else. how can a striker play for so long without getting a chance at goal ? Money ? Fame ? fortune ? Very poor on Friday night should've been taken off at half time. Not in my starting 11 - I'd play Gray down the middle .
Ted Maul Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Been saying the same for a while. No interest in putting pressure on defenders, very rarely busts a gut to get behind the last man, and in fact very rarely breaks past a jog at all. I don't get it. Just seems to have completely lost the fire in his belly which made him the player he was.
ithuriel Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 You forgot the pointing, he does pointing now when he cant be bothered to sprint after the ball, either that or he is losing his pace and is trying to mask it or he is carrying an injury from before the season started.
STUHILL Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Combination of lack of confidence as well as working less hard than he did last season, but the biggest difference is the complete lack of quality service he is getting. If he was missing one and ones or tap ins constantly, then I he would be more at fault, but the team are lofting pointless high balls to him, that a defender can easily deal with. He needs through balls on the floor or high balls in to space. He is completely wasted by the way we are playing at the moment. I would say he has to work harder and close down more like he used to but the biggest problem is the rubbish service.
Aus Fox Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Yep, training and playing in the England setup all summer will do that to a player.
ousefox Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Off the top of my head I think he's scored in 3 games this season in all competitions. That's abysmal. He's been utterly shit in nearly every game. Considering he had some mad stat about being involved in a huge amount of goals either through scoring or assisting, it's a dramatic change in form. He shouldn't be anywhere near the next England squad.
StriderHiryu Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 I think the problem is much deeper - he's turned into a big time charlie with his book, movie and his wife's obsession for magazines (Vardy is on the front cover of a magazine this week). He's literally got fame and fortune now, but is he still motivated on a day to day basis? The lack of pressing from the front and running the channels this year suggests not.
Guest Col city fan Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Danny Murphy made a great point last night when he spoke about Coutinho being hurled on for Liverpool to try to get back in the Wolves game. Suddenly, his mere presence lifted his team mates. He said the same thing about Spurs when they brought on Alli. This for me was his main point.......'suddenly the forwards start running again, because they know the ball is coming' Footballers are just people. They will get completely frustrated when they are working with others who aren't on their wavelength. In happens in the workplace every day. I'm not expecting many on here to get this point, or to agree. But for me, it answers the question, at least in large part. Vardy is making the runs and time and time and time again he's not getting the ball anymore. We have a rubbish midfield offensively. All this talk about Mendy, Amartey...they are not creative in any sense of the word. Drinkwater looks disinterested, King can pick a pass, but gets over run. This is why we aren't seeing the same thing from Vardy this season IMO. I agree with Shearer...that Vardy has made his fame and that it's MUCH harder to stay at the top. But I agree mainly with Murphy. We don't have a Coutinho or an Alli, or a Pogba or a Yaya. Our forwards must be fooked off having to play in front of this rubbish.
peterborofox Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Think he looks shot suddenly. Turned thirty and looks it. Unfortunately can only see it going down now especially as his pace will be going soon. Tho it seems like it has already. Looks a shadow now. Really poor

ousefox Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 5 goals in 23 games He hasn't scored in 20 out of 23 of the games and looked largely innefectual in nearly every one.

sdb Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 It's a chicken and egg scenario. I'm not sure which came first but his teammates can no longer thread a ball through to him and he is now very resistant to the idea of making intelligent and determined runs. There's no way he's putting the effort of last season in, but he is playing with at least a half dozen hoof ball merchants.
justfoxes Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 He's gone from £20k per week to over £100k a week he has a film about his meteoric rise a book out and money from big Advertisers and he's won the Premier League with Leicester a huge feat in itself now he's done it got the Tee Shirt etc etc? He no longer needs to bust a gut every game as he's proved himself allegedly! The passion has gone from a number of players last season we had players who played the whole 90 minutes pushed forward got to the ball first pushed harder then the opposition this year they've totally changed it's like they no longer have the fight or desire as last season who knows why ? But if they won't fight for the Club and the fans then sell them on and get players in who will play for the fans club etc and not only for the pound as it feels most do! its honestly like someone has put something in the water at the club to remove the players tenacity and the way they played and made them crap whatever it is they need to sort it now before we do get dragged down any lower in the league ?
Viva Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 He's not been given the ball. Hard to score as a striker when this happens.
Max Power Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Missed an absolute sitter on Friday. But he doesn't get the service... In a way I don't blame him. He's had to graft his way up through the leagues and now he's made it. Won the league and has a £100k a week contact. No point running around anymore. The problem is that his game is based on pace and work rate, he's an average player technically, so if he isn't working and he's lost a yard of pace he just isn't that effective a footballer.

Tuna Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Is it just me or does he look a bit bulkier this season? Maybe when Andre Gray takes his England squad place he'll sort himself out a bit.
Guest Col city fan Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 5 minutes ago, Watson said: I'm impressed how well you remember stats. I'm so sorry I wasted your time So answer the question. We know his return has been poor. Why?
CityBoyOf95 Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Vardy's lack of intelligence to add a plan B to his game is a problem. A bigger problem is the fact he doesn't seem to be bothered about finding a solution either.
StanSP Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 When you get lumped balls up to you for majority of the matches and all you seem to be doing is challenging for headers against big strong centre backs you're probably going to get frustrated. Teams sit deeper against us. His main threat was being able to run in behind defenders and penetrate the gap between goal-keeper and defenders. This seasons teams sit back and 1) prevent him making the run and 2) prevent the midfield from even trying to make those passes. Therefore the lack of service. We're too easy to play against and overcome. It's not all down to Vardy. There's a lot wrong with tactics, other personnel not performing, opposition sussing us out, lack of variation in our play.
Monsell1976 Posted 29 January 2017 Posted 29 January 2017 Set for life, film, book, having a baby, fame gone to his head, distracted from the job that got him in the fortunate position he's in. Shearer has pretty much come to this conclusion, and must have touched a nerve, as Mrs Vardy felt the need to tell shearer its utter bullshit on twitter
