Mahrez 'confident' of survival

Riyad Mahrez is adamant Leicester will stay up if the team 'do things properly' and wants to secure safety with five games to spare.

Claudio Ranieri's side have a crucial match at Swansea City on Sunday and defeat could take them into the relegation zone after four consecutive Premier League losses, but Mahrez believes Leicester possess enough quality to pull clear.

The Algerian has struggled for form this season, scoring just three goals – all penalties – and providing two assists. He was named PFA Player of the Year last season having netted 17 goals and created 11 more.

Leicester currently have 21 points, 29 fewer than at this stage a year ago, and sit only two points off bottom in 16th place. 'I'm not surprised, I knew it would be difficult,' said Mahrez. 'But we're just in a bad moment right now and we have to come back our way. We know we have quality in this team and we know if we do things properly we'll stay in the Premier League.

'We are a good team but things sometimes go strange in football so you just never know. We need to just focus on the last 14 games and make sure we're safe.

'We want to be safe before the last five games. We don't want to be in a struggle right at the end. We just need to work hard. I know it's going to come back.

'I'm not worried about myself. The goals will come back. We need the supporters to get right behind us now. We're confident we can do it – very confident.'

Paul Clement has enjoyed an instant impact at Swansea, gaining wins against Liverpool and Southampton, and Mahrez recognises the size of the fixture at the Liberty Stadium.

He said: 'It's a big game at Swansea. We need to get ready and look forward to this game. We have to prepare properly because both the clubs are near the bottom and we need to get something from that.'

Mahrez really is full of shit. Coming out with stuff like that. His form this season has been abysmal. How can you get behind a team who seem more like a collection of individuals rather than a team playing for each other?

I will support them, but I'm not taking games as seriously as I have been up to now. I mentally want to be prepared should they get relegated, so I don't get too upset. They have the quality to stay up, but its just not happening on the pitch. I'd be happy with the line up they played against Derby at Swansea. It was no worse than the 'regular team'

They should be playing for their lives, like every game is the last game they will ever play.....

What happened to Raneri's approach of last season taking one game at a time ?????

Talk is cheap.

Stop talking and do it on the pitch FFS!

He's most likely been sent by the club, or booked by the paper through the club do this interview, what do you want him to say, he can't say nothing can he. Talk might be cheap, but in modern football it's part and parcel of the game, even though seemingly we don't want it and the player don't want to do it.

'Mahrez confident of leaving at the end of the season no matter what'  Mahrez has come out saying he doesn't really give a toss either way as he won the pfa player of the season last year and will leave to one of the many suitors that have been courting him all year.

I am sure Mahrez is confident of his summer move as well. Shame Barcelona wont be sniffing around this time.

Dont worry Riyad there is always Arsenal.

If you want to be safe with five games to spare you and the team don't just need to pull your finger out but the full hand to help each other and show something of the player from last season

I don't really get it. Players not addressing the situation are accused of not caring for the club. And players that are addressing the situation are called fake and not really committed 100℅ to the team. They can't win, can they?

The team is underperforming no doubt about that, but they are at least trying.

Don't tell me that mahrez isn't trying and playing harder lately. Other players are to trying harder to win games. So, support them until the 38th week and after that you can pass the judgment.

I find it interesting that Mahrez has come up with this from the meeting, but not a peep from Vardy.

Can't work out whether to read anything into that.

When you have the ability that Mahrez has and when he looks around the players he trains with every day, he has every right of feeling confident. I have no problem in him feeling confident but my issue with some of the players is that they are not just light weight physically but mentally and thats where for me Mahrez sits at the moment. They play like a bunch of fannys some times and just feel sorry for themselves and dont see to be up for the battle. I have no doubt that Mahrez on his day can rip apart any team in the division. He did it to Chelsea, Man City and plenty of other good sides last season, Im just questioning the will and mental stability of these dudes.

Lets see if those who can make the difference can grow a set and start putting it all in and make the difference. It sounds like they are up for it so lets hope we see that on the pitch.

I'm confident he has been dire and one of the reasons we are a mess

I'm confident if he pulls his finger out we can survive

I'm not confident he can pull his finger out

confidence is both real and false and as such it should be treated with suspicion

You know what, the people on here make me sick, bunch of fvcking idiots, Mahrez says exactly what we're wanting to hear, he's wanting the fans to get behind the team and that they can do it, and we don't  want be in a relegation fight at the same time as champs league final.

Most of the responses on here are, yeah where you been all season? fvck off to arsenal, you're shite etc...HE JUST WON US THE FVCKING LEAGUE,all you cvnts talking shit about my team, the greatest team of all time, you should be fvcking worshiping them not slagging them, what's wrong with you, I'm not arsed about what we do now, go down, fine, we'll rebuild and start a new chapter, we're Leicester City, we have absolutely no right to expect anything other than relegation scraps and I'm fine with that.  You should be too, if not why don't you go grab your man United shirt out back of wardrobe get back on that band wagon, you don't have to support us.

People who expect Mahrez etal to just play like last year are deluded, it was a one off and you should be greatful he graced us with that season. 20 years of going to Leicester and I've never seen anyone half as good as him, or vards or kasper, who have we had that's better than huth or fuchs? No one, ever. People who are saying this team is gash can't have watched us before last year, you can't of, otherwise what you comparing them too? D1ck heads

In today's media dominated world what do people expect, negativity and a white flag?

Yes they need to deliver but I'd much rather hear that, see them galvanising and see signs of fight, on and off the pitch, than read the negative shite spouted by some on here!
