shen Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 Have patience folks. What's the rush anyway? Shakespeare has already said after the Hull game that there's a meeting on Thursday after they come back from the trip. Nothing will be announced before that.

Maybe they're talking to another candidate they want now and hope to complete everything before Thursday, for an announcement about it then?

Maybe, or maybe the owners don't want to rush into a decision before having researched who is available and interested, which I think is very sensible. With results going as they've gone, there's no urgency to appoint anyone as Shakespeare is doing a brilliant job. Rudkin and co. (possibly including Shakespeare) might feel that a proven manager is more prudent, but on the condition that CS stays in his role as assistant manager.
Nick Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 Raid Derby for Chris Powell or Kevin Phillips to add as assistant manager or first team coach?
volpeazzurro Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 If the squad are happy with Shakespeare at this moment in time, and the results and the players reactions tend to corroborate this, it would appear a little foolhardy to put a spanner in the works. I can't see a better candidate available anyway at this precise moment in time. It also has the advantage of buying time until the summer when either way, we will know the position we are in which looks a little more positive now to what it did just two games ago. It may be felt that Shakespeare deserves a full time shot at the job. If not, and our owners feel that we need a bigger name to attract players and boost the clubs profile etc, then there will be more managerial candidates available post May. Though you would like to think if they do want a change, it's done sooner rather than later for transfers in and out purposes. I don't know what the situation was with Ranieri but would like to think that whether it's Shakespeare or another manager, that they have a big say in who comes in.
les-tah Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 100% think shakey will get it at end of season. 99% sure they will try get a big name in after the season is over regardless of how well Shakey does. Not my opinions just what i 'think' the owners will do, especially on past appointments.. Sven, Ranieri ect ect.

I would give craig next season if things are going well. A bigger problem is that right now we can only be sucessful playing one way. Thats good but also a bit limiting. ... yet i think craig has seen enough football to figure it out. Everyone needs a break

maddog Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 I imagine Shakespeare has been told privately already he's got the job until the end of this season as caretaker manager as he deserves. The club will now rightly be conducting due diligence on the manager market, putting out feelers for prospective candidates and interviewing more as they have already to make a better informed decision on the permanent manager in the summer. Of course Shakespeare could be offered that depending on how he feels and how the rest of the season goes if he wants the job. It would be foolish to bring in someone new now when its a time of the season where decent prospects are settled at their current clubs and available free agents are desperate for the job, and in the main below average managers at best. I imagine they'll want to do a proper unveiling press conference of Shakey with Susan Whelan beaming like a Cheshire cat repeating the words 'trust us' when he returns from Dubai with a sexy tan.
sdb Posted 6 March 2017 Posted 6 March 2017 Could be a very big decision to make in the summer. If he does 'OK', we finish 15th...do we keep him as manager or go big and lose him altogether? Can't see him happily going back to assistant with a new man. Not sure the players would love it either.
