Shakespeare offered managers job

Their targets seem to follow two paths. Someone who has done it here before (Pearson / O'Neill) or an experienced, media friendly name (Sven, Ranieri, Hiddinck, Hodgeson).

I can't remember many concrete links that were outside that limited window.

But that doesn't mean they haven't spoken with any other potential candidate. We hear rumors but i don't believe we hear everything. There does seem to be a trend in their approach though, i'm just hoping for better.

See my 'other' team, Newport County have just sacked their manager. Fvcking snakes. They won one of their last 20 games FFS. ;)

Snakes. What does a club like Newport realistically expect?

It doesn't, but there are reporters we can trust and I don't remember them reporting on many links outside that box.

Champions League football. :)

Got to quarters of European Cup Winners' Cup in 1981 before losing to Carl Zeiss Jena on aggregate. Unlucky too.

Firstly, apologies for raised hopes for anyone seeing action on this topic, and then being disappointed it's just me posting something

Anyway, given that it came out publically from the owners that they wanted shakey to remain in charge until the end of season at least, and that it's been reported that shakey was weighing up his options, but wanted assurances on his long term future, does any one think the complete black out of news has anything to do with perhaps the owners and Shakey being quite a bit apart in their views of the future?

Its perhaps, somewhat ironic, that the performance last season mirrors a little the last week or so for Shakey and the owners.

For sure, the owners wouldn't have in their wildest dreams thought something like that was going to happen, and to a much more minor level that Shakey was going to come in and pull in 6points from 2 games, scoring 6 and conceding 2. It's kind of possibly put them in a difficult position with Shakey. Everything possibly mapped out before or the day after the sacking, that a new manager would be appointed as soon as possible ( as was quoted by them ) Now we are 2 weeks down the line with looking from the untrained eye, that not a decision is close yet. Are the owners playing the long game now, content in the knowledge that things are going reasonable and they have a coach contracted to the club in any case to take the season, match by match now?

Could there be maybe a possibility that Shakey wants a permanent healthy contract that stretches beyond next season, but the owners, again with the let's hope and see approach to the Sevilla match are saying, ok shakey, show us what you've got? Take us through to the quarters from a goal behind against really decent opponents, and that extended contract is yours, or if we are knocked out, then just you concentrate on survival for the rest of the season and we will sit and chat after that ends?

Yes all just speculation but it would be nice to canvas opinion as to why the time schedule for an appointment seems to have changed

When did they back from their team bonding? I suspect Top's new requirement is that the manager and his family refrain from racially abusing his countrymen and women while inside one of the above while on jaunt for which Top himself has paid. After that, they'll be discussions and then arranging a press conference. Or Top has decided delaying the annocement until after Sevilla will increase the team's passion and intensity. *Fingers crossed*

Contracts with this kind of arrangement take time to sort out. I imagine Shakespeare wants assurances about his future beyond the end of the season. He will be appointed eventually.

I might have this wrong, but I have a feeling the impatience is coming from people who have money riding on the outcome...

Listen I think you may be spot on! ??? thinking of pound notes before the interests of the club. Hey! I've said before, I'm a lcfc fan of over 50 years, and want the very best for our club. Would love that even more, in conjunction with Shakey being in charge for at least 8 more games???

I think the best interests of the club and your material interests are one and the same on this occasion my friend.

You'll collect. Don't worry. The club won't announce it till the contract is signed and it's a very difficult contract to negotiate. Going from a long term assistant manager contract to an 11 game manager deal with a question mark at the end takes a bit of working out.

? think I made that obvious? Yes on this one occasion I'm talking from my pocket, but to level that off, I'm a st holder of 5yrs if that means anything. Can't fault anything you have said. Tbh I agreed with your reasoning in my previous posts. I do sincerely hope we get the best man for the job. If that's shakey, he will have my support, which goes for every single fan I would imagine. If it's not to be, it's going to be a real shame for shakey, but as we all will appreciate in years to come, he has been an integral part of continued success of many years now. £1200 will come in very handy though, as you said, on this occasion??

wonder if the people over at the Merc have had a bet on Shakey as well, they've sounded incredibly desperate and impatient in their coverage over the past few days

Good article about Shakespeare- gives me even more confidence that he can do the job for us, at least until the end of the season. Sounds like a character;

"I also was a victim of his playful nature too. It is a journalistic faux pas to leave your phone on while conducting an interview, but Shakespeare took advantage of one momentary lapse when I was interviewing Development Squad manager Steve Beaglehole at the training ground after a game.

Mid-interview, my phone started to ring loudly. I apologised to Steve for my unprofessionalism and got my phone out to check who had called and turn it off.

As I did so, I looked up and saw Shakey grinning and waving at me in a window, with his phone to his ear"

Would you like to call him back and ask him what's going on then?

Interesting stuff.

Does seem to indicate why Pearson has struggled without him (and Walsh)

Glad the owners seem to have made the right decision. The players are clearly playing for Shakey, no point potentially upsetting the ship now.
