Even went and got my £30 on at 6/1 when Roy was 6 7/1 on. Anyway. I do believe it's great news regardless. I'm 58 and watched a lot of Leicester city football. I hope he makes a great job of it.... if he decides to take it on the terms the owners offer it to him, which tbh I did allude to a few days ago. He may want 2 years and they may not want to give him that long initially. A compromise could be 18months In fairness to shakey, Claudio was rumoured to have been given assurances about his job, including relegation, in his first season in charge. I'm guessing Shakey knows this and maybe wanting similar immediately!

Assuming he keeps us up then there will be a difficult decision to make in the summer. Have to decide whether they think Shakespeare can handle being the main man, particularly off the field. He would need to bring in a good team around him, maybe Chris Powell could be his number 2? I personally think we should look elsewhere in the summer, no matter how he does between now and then. Unless of course elsewhere means Roy ****ing Hodgson. If Shakes does good job then give it to him full time. The players respect him and they play for him. I'm glad he has got it till the end of the season but leave him permanent IMO. SHAKEY DO US PROUD

One thing for certain though is that Shaky is no Rob Kelly. 13 points needed from 11 games, if he gets that he deserves a shot. 4 very winnable home games, Watford, Stoke, Sunderland and Bournemouth. It's there for the taking and I really hope he does.
st albans fox Posted 7 March 2017 Posted 7 March 2017 It's all about the wonga shakey has a pretty good contract for a number 2 but this is an opportunity to make some dough for him. if the owners believe he is the man to keep the team up then why shouldn't he feather his nest. As has been said, a new man coming in the summer may not want him and he probably only has another year on his current contract. A successful last few months of the season may well sort him out with a decent championship appointment for next season anyway. i say good luck to him - he deserves a pay day!
4everfox Posted 7 March 2017 Posted 7 March 2017 Great decision, get Eduardo Berizzo or Sean Dyche signed up now ready to start in June. Hate to say it but I have a haunting feeling that this next few months will be the last of Craig Shakespeare's Leicester career. Even though I think we will stay up comfortably, I reckon the only way he could realistically land the job permanently is by winning the Champions League and that is simply the nearest to impossible as you can get. The scale of this challenge is far greater then last seasons miracle, and by that I mean Leicester winning the Champions League would literally make last seasons achievements look tiny considering how good the top 7 or 8 teams are currently. If this is to be the case I selfishly hope that he would rather be a number two so that we can keep him, because Shakespeare is quite clearly the MAN at Leicester.
Wymsey Posted 7 March 2017 Posted 7 March 2017 Yes, correct decision, knows both the team and club well, and seems sensible towards the media questions. Also, British is better imo. (In terms of having a English manager understanding the PL and knowing the right tactics etc to compete effectively.)

maddog Posted 7 March 2017 Posted 7 March 2017 Very good move by the club to only give it him until the end of the season for now. I'd be offering it to Wagner in summer if Huddersfield don't get promoted. I'm confident he would come and I don't envisage a better opportunity coming his way at the moment to manage in England as the Leicester job. Might be harsh on Shakey depending on how he does but I feel we need to move on to a new era, Wagner is my man. If that means losing Shakey to a Championship/League One full time management position then so be it.
fox in the sox Posted 7 March 2017 Posted 7 March 2017 'Leicester City made it through to the quarter finals of the Champions League last night thanks to a brilliant substitution by new manager Craig Shakespeare. With just 2 minutes to go, Shakespeare (known as Shakey) replaced captain Wes Morgan with cult hero Marcin Wasilewski. Moments later a superbly flighted corner by Marc Albrighton was deflected into the visitors net by the top knot of Wasilewski as the Foxes gained a 1-0 victory which took them through on away goals.'

Now that's just unrealistic - Was has been deregistered from our CL squad
Nickfosse Posted 7 March 2017 Posted 7 March 2017 I don't understand why we want a new era to begin in the summer. Shakespeare arrived when we were at our lowest ever ebb, relegated to the third tier. Since then we have embarked, remarkably on the most successful period of our club's history. Champions of the top 3 leagues and in the last 16 of the champions league. Why would we want the Shakespeare era to end and replaced with another?

He knows how to get the best out the squad, new manager comes in and it'll be all change. I wonder if he will bring any of his contacts in?

I've heard that he was in charge of tactics under Pearson, which worries me a lot, but after 2 good performances he's shown he can keep this team up and we need to do that. Of course, if he wins the next 11 we'd be mad not to review. This, for all the reasons given.

Rather than the person that has been at our club for what 8 years? Won league one , championship and premier league. Ok.

If it is true I'm glad it's only till the end of the season. It was all sorted last week. But Shakey did not want the distraction going into a big game. I was expecting it yesterday. By the time they get back it will have calmed in the lead up to the CL game.

We already know Shakey is 'mates' with the players and it may be difficult for him to become the main man to them. Once that initial novelty wears off among the players then what happens? The summer is also the perfect time to bring someone new in and give them the whole preseason. I am very happy Shakey has been appointed until the end of this season, but I do not see this ending well if he's made permanent manager on a long contract in summer. Happy to be proved wrong of course and for Shakey to be amazing and make England manager one day, but that's just my view
dynamark Posted 7 March 2017 Posted 7 March 2017 If Dyche is given the job I refuse to attend. You gambling lads know you will all be tempted to have a pop at something else and something else.Ladbrokes Hiills and PP do tend to make a large profit each year. Shaky is fine but I wouldn't blame him at all for looking for some longer term assurances only sensible don't want 3 months well paid and then down the road.
