Shakespeare offered managers job

I hope we don't get another Rob Kelly situation on our hands 12 months down the line.

EDIT: It's only till the end of the season so that's fine. I'm on board with that.

Not sure I believe this, Shakespeare himself said that there would be discussions on Thursday when he and the squad got back.

If it is true I'm glad it's only till the end of the season.

Its sensible until the end of the season. Assuming he keeps us up then there will be a difficult decision to make in the summer. Have to decide whether they think Shakespeare can handle being the main man, particularly off the field. He would need to bring in a good team around him, maybe Chris Powell could be his number 2?

I personally think we should look elsewhere in the summer, no matter how he does between now and then. Unless of course elsewhere means Roy ****ing Hodgson.

Untill the end of the year makes sense.

Keep us up and then we're in a better position for better managers to want to have a look. IE Mancini wouldn't have wanted to walk into the mess when he was apparently approached.

So if we end up doing ok in the league and progress to the QF of the champions league, would he not deserve it permanently

Thats a big question.

the right decision under the circumstances, then re access the situation in May. No reason he shouldn't keep it if we do well until the end of season.

Then appoint a top Coach to work with him. The decision should be made before the last game so we can move forward quickly with our planning.

Most important that we identify our transfer targets early and get them in early for a good preseason.

Good luck to Shaky for the rest of the season.

Sensible.

Watch him turn it down.

Says on Sky that he wants long term assurances about his future before committing to this job... could cause problems if they're looking to bring in a new 'big name' manager in the summer who has his own backroom team?

Whether is the right man long term for the job none of us know.

One thing for certain though is that Shaky is no Rob Kelly.

Do they really have to offer him 'the job'

Why not just say he's in charge until the end of the season and they wont look at interviewing anybody until then?

I honestly don't think the owners are going to want him in charge permanently come the end of the season, and he could just leave the club altogether if we offer him the managers job and then start looking for a proper replacement in the summer

Don't understand why we don't just carry on like this and see what happens without all this 'who'll be the next manager?' buisness

It only says that he will be offered the job, i.e. when he returns from the trip.

I think it's a sensible and obvious choice by the board if true. Last thing we want at this stage is someone turning over the applecart (again). This buys us time to identify potential manager targets for this summer and gives Shakespeare time to have a decent 'audition' himself.

Totally sensible to give him it until the end of the season, but not full time.

I've heard that he was in charge of tactics under Pearson, which worries me a lot, but after 2 good performances he's shown he can keep this team up and we need to do that.

Of course, if he wins the next 11 we'd be mad not to review.

Well to me, that means that he will

a) Expect to be interviewed for the permanent position in the summer,

b) Be guaranteed a 2 year deal on Assistant or Manager roles and be paid out if the new incoming manager doesn't wish to work with him.

I imagine he'll be looking for a £500k bonus for keeping the team up and a yearly salary of £1million per year plus bonuses.

I'm completely happy with that appointment and it's duration. As I've posted before we need to know what will the attitude of the "old guard" be to personnel changes within the starting line up and how Shakespeare will handle any dissent.

Why would that concern you? Pearson is one of our most successful managers of all time. You don't half come out with some tripe you.
