davieG Posted 21 March 2017 Posted 21 March 2017 The international break has come at the right time for Leicester City, manager Craig Shakespeare believes. City have been on a roll since Shakespeare took over from Claudio Ranieri as boss, winning three consecutive Premier League games to climb to six points above the relegation zone, while also beating Sevilla to book a Champions League quarter-final. However, despite his side's momentum and soaring confidence, Shakespeare believes the two-week break will help his side recover after their efforts over the past couple of weeks. "I think it is good for us because the exploits over the past couple of weeks and the energy we have had to use. It is coming at a good time," said Shakespeare. "Of course we have players away on international duty, so you are always frightened of them coming back injured. "We need them coming back healthy and fit, but in terms of the others it gives us the opportunity to rest them and have a few training days and a few recovery days." Danny Drinkwater has had to rule himself out of England duty because he is carrying a slight injury that the medical staff have been working on for several weeks, while captain Wes Morgan failed to lead out the side for only the second time in the Premier League since City were promoted. Morgan picked up a back injury in the win over Sevilla and failed to recover in time for the trip to the Hammers. Yohan Benalouane came in for his first league start since joining the club at the start of the previous season. "Wes hadn't trained since Sevilla so we knew it was possibility," said Shakespeare. "We gave him the time but it was too much. Anyone who is given a chance they have to take the opportunity. "They have to take it and I thought Yohan was very steady for his first Premier League game."
sylofox Posted 21 March 2017 Posted 21 March 2017 Any news on Benny's wrist or finger or whatever it was.
Ted Maul Posted 21 March 2017 Posted 21 March 2017 Completely agree- after the last few results, it's satisfying to go into a bit of a break knowing that we've gone a long way to securing our safety. The players looked out on their feet second half against West Ham- the last couple of games have really taken it out of them, and a 2 week break will do them good before something daft like 7 games in 23 days.
Fox92 Posted 21 March 2017 Posted 21 March 2017 They've just come back from Dubai or wherever they went. Not bad is it.
foxy boxing Posted 21 March 2017 Posted 21 March 2017 well we were on a good run of results before the international break so who knows how it will affect us when all the players return from international duty, hopefully it won't make a difference and we continue in the same vain as before!
surrifox Posted 21 March 2017 Posted 21 March 2017 They've been resting for the first 20 odd games of the season . Should be well refreshed

Hardly worth it. We ran ourselves into the ground past two games players deserve the rest. Back on it next week for Stoke.

They were all on the piss as well, my brother is out there at the minute and it turns out they stayed in the same hotel that he is in. Few stories of a lot of swigging and being nuisances. Not got a problem with that as it has helped regain our unity. Keep swilling the ales, boys.

Hotel security were concerned at the potential levels of drunkenness when Okazaki kept falling over. He then went off to bed 2/3 of the way into the night and Slimani took his place.
urban.spaceman Posted 21 March 2017 Posted 21 March 2017 They might've had a break beforehand but they gave absolutely everything in that Sevilla game, so much so that they are all more or less dead on their feet after an hour at West Ham. Should hope they've got a plan to combat this for the Atletico games.

Guest Col city fan Posted 21 March 2017 Posted 21 March 2017 I'm quite pleased they now have a proper break. It'll give them time to regroup, to reflect and recharge. The past few weeks must have been difficult. All the Ranieri stuff, the accusations in the media, the difficult league games which needed winning, the Champs League game which much have been exhausting for everyone. Hopefully now they'll come back a more settled unit and will keep on in the right direction. Shakey as far as I can see, is doing just about everything right so far.

Agree, this break gives them the opportunity, to really draw the line. Tell themselves their season starts against Stoke..Whats gone was another time another place (mentally). Hold on tight, we are in for a ride, no matter how it pans out..we are the fearless foxes. The chickens are clacking and Flapping, the hounds are going to be led a merry chase... Cry havoc let slip the ...FOXES of war.. Dustbins beware..!!!

HybridFox Posted 22 March 2017 Posted 22 March 2017 Can't see Vardy getting too much game time either for England, which could be a good thing. Likely to favour Defoe in all honesty
