MPH Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 I felt like it needed saying that he got a lot of things right last night. It was a brave move to bring on King for Oka AND change the formation but he got that spot on and at the right time as well. I Also think the team were very well prepared, the tactics were what was needed. and he can hold his head up high for the job he did last night. He's done himself no harm at all if he wants a future as a manager
m4DD0gg Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Dont know whether the players and shakey were just hot but they all looked badly sun burnt

Redouane Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 His 7th or 8th game in charge is a UCL 1/4 final. It's amazing how well he performed. I feel like Leicester is the team of hidden gems. Vardy, Mahrez, Schemeichel, Kante, Ndidi.. the list goes on. For such a small team, there a lot of players comparable with other "top class" players from bigger teams.
StanSP Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Dropping Ndidi back to shield the defence from Griezmann worked a treat in the 2nd half. Encouraged Atletico to cross the ball in which Huth and Benalouane, to their credit, swept up with ease. Credit to Shakespeare for the idea. Credit to the players (primarily Benalouane, Huth & Ndidi) for executing it how Shakey wanted it to be done.
Nick Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Tactically - the five man midfield was necessary to nullify Griezman - no doubt. From the off though i did feel we were Ranieri-like in our approach, the press wasn't high or continuous and this limited our goal scoring chances though arguably balanced our play defensively... Bringing King on was smart as we were overrun in midfield but the moment we did - we gave up any hope of scoring in all reality - Vardy was completely isolated aka Ranieri era and we were back to long balls much of the time. If we want to win this tie at home, we must play our brand of football our way - its the only way we know how to be effective - there's no other way we'll score the 2-3 goals we'll likely need to win the tie.

adejo92 Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 It was a case of clinging on for dear life with zero attacking mentality which is great to keep us in the tie however we will have no choice but to attack in the home leg, leaving ourselves vulnerable. I don't want to sound negative but an extremely poor Sevilla side turned up at the KP and i just hope we catch Athletico on an off day too.

We made Sevilla look poor and if we play like that v Atletico then anything can happen.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Thought we kept our shape well last night.
foxes21 Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 I think Shakes got the tactics right, playing for a low scoring game. If we tried to play our usual high press style at the calderon, then Atletico with the crowd on their side would have opened us up. However at the KP I expect us to return to our usual style of play & our quick, direct play could shock Atletico.

Hm, we were good, yes, but theres no denying we caught them on a bad day. Athletico are much more of a threat and once we begin to attack, which we have to, it could bury us. There certainly needs to be a different approach at the home tie as we offered absolutely nothing attacking.
Richard Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 The brief for last night was to make sure there's still a still in the home leg. Definite success. First 20 we looked nervous, over-awed and generally gave them too much respect. We looked shit scared everytime the ball came near us. 2nd leg at a rocking KP, anything is possible...

I think we will be much more offensive at home. In my opinion Shakey wanted above all the tie not be decided in Madrid and keep us in. At 2-0 we'd be realistically out. They'd just park the bus at the KP and kill us on the counter. It's their game after all and they're pretty good at it. While not easy, we still have a genuine chance to go through. That's an amazing performance when you compare both squads and european experience and consider that we were about to be relegated seven weeks ago. I was waiting for this game to see what Shakey is really made of. I'm genuinely impressed.
Kitchandro Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 I think his tactics have given us a mountain to climb, personally. With no threat up front we invited waves of pressure and had to defend heroically to keep us in the tie. Whilst next week we will have all the pressure of needing to score twice and not concede an away goal.

Matt Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 We were 2nd best but held our own, certainly defensively which has been my biggest bugbear all season. We played ok, my only disappointment is we didn't score an away goal but it's only 1-0 and I'm confident we can score 2 at home, can we keep a clean sheet...we'll see.

Their pen came from a counter attack, which was the only time in the game they were truly dangerous. First half Griezmann was getting a lot of space in between the lines. Second half he was anonymous because Shakespeare changed tactics. Neither team threatened at all in the second half. It was a stalemate.

matty98 Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 We played the game we had to, 25 degree heat doesn't suit a high intensity side who aren't used to it. Think we'll give them a good game at home. Shakespeare got everything spot on.

I think when you factor the answer to this question in mind, you have to appreciate the game plan. Don't get me wrong, I thought Vardy was a little too deep and ineffective, but at 1-0 against CL finalists 2 out of the last 3 years it was almost bang on for me.
