Kalacs_Orthopedic_Shoe Posted 12 May 2017 Posted 12 May 2017 Firstly, apologises if this subject had been raised before.. I only became aware today that Hull's rated midfielder Sam Clucas was a product of our youth academy, before being let go at 16 for being too small. This maybe common knowledge to most of us, but this nugget has evaded me up until today. So, it got me wondering, have we let any other players go before their first pro' contract? Up the Citeh!
m4DD0gg Posted 12 May 2017 Posted 12 May 2017 He must be an awesome player. That hull midfield this season has been like watching Brazil

ParkerPen Posted 12 May 2017 Posted 12 May 2017 Matt Smith had some kind of injury that meant he couldn't carry on playing - back injury springs to mind
deejdeej Posted 12 May 2017 Posted 12 May 2017 Jeez the guy called him 'rated' not a world class superstar.

hornyhollthefox123 Posted 13 May 2017 Posted 13 May 2017 He took the piss out of our midfield in the game at home this year so not sure why people think he's average. Hull's best player by a stretch this season. He'd be a good squad player for us. I'd 100% have him in our match day 18
AjcW Posted 13 May 2017 Posted 13 May 2017 He's better than average that's for sure. I've posted in the "who do you want next summer" thread that when he was at Chesterfield the guys there (know a few) were wondering why he wasn't in the premier league. He's moved up a level consistently every other season and I see no reason why he won't do that again this season. I'd really like to have him here, he's certainly going to be an Everton/Southampton target for sure. You'd like to think we'd be at the front of the queue for someone local though. This transfer window is all about building a capable squad, by which I mean we can put two teams out who can beat 70% of this division, and Sam definitely fits the bill.
foxes21 Posted 13 May 2017 Posted 13 May 2017 I'd sign him as back up for Albrighton. He'd be able to play Albrighton's role pretty well imo.
Captain... Posted 13 May 2017 Posted 13 May 2017 This came up a few seasons back when Hull signed Clucas for 1.3m and Bournemouth signed Lee Tomlin for 3.5 million. Someone said that we had lost out in millions by letting these players go too early. This was obviously wrong as they never would have been worth millions rotting away in our reserves and we would have been paying their contracts for years too. I think we tried to find other players that we'd let go and they had gone on to make a decent career. There weren't any iirc.

That hull midfield this season has been like watching Brazil what an incredibly arrogant comment. Considering they came up through the play offs spent zero money and sold all their best players hull and their players have had a very good season this year and still stand a chance of staying up.
