People rang in... wasn't very exciting imo. Didn't they invite a language expert on or something to try and prove that Jap was a racist term? The language expert was fairly noncommittal and they just shouted over him to say that it was clearly racist. At least that was how I remember it m, but that was a few years ago
Lovejoy Posted 15 May 2017 Posted 15 May 2017 Fair play to the players. Stringer is an insignificant cretin. I really hate the way he always talks over people on the wireless to get his opinion over. Your job is to call the action and ask questions, not try and make it about you. Not hard to see how he hasn't properly made it to national radio.

You say that but I was about sick a couple of weeks ago when Radio 5 went for an update on the Villa - Birmingham match and the summariser was Ian Stringer.

I was thinking that as I typed, hence sneaking in the "properly" . I remember he sounded like a kid in a candy shop.
Ricey Posted 15 May 2017 Posted 15 May 2017 He loves the sounds of his own voice. A good journalist loves the sound of other peoples voices.

Football forum on Mondays was worth listening before despite some odd callers! Now hardly ever is a caller even on air...just an hour of drivel from Stringer and Bourne too. Just pure nonsense. Debating the other day whether Iceland was in Scandinavia or not. Do we actually care? Just like a couple of kids giggling and sniggering all the time. It's all about Stringers ego usually I find. Thankfully I don't have to listen to RL commentary as much as back in the championship. some time ago I called in - but there was not time for my wisdom. The period up to 6pm now contains a highlights package - I talked to the producer and said that this was the opportunity for fans to phone in... if folk have missed the commentary then tough. But of course the beeb is obsessed with content produced by its own production teams rather than a fan debate. There used to be more calls - |I remember once after a poor performance and a load of defensive tosh form alan young there was a stream of callers turning on young for brown nosing the club... it was brill. They are missing out on great content. How about streaming a foxes talk forum?
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 15 May 2017 Posted 15 May 2017 It's a real shame the situation is as it is. I've got a lot of love for RL because of my early days in broadcasting and I have a lot of respect for some people who are still there. However, it disappoints me how RL have handled things over the past few years. It's none of my business as a broadcaster but as a fan I hope things get resolved.
HankMarvin Posted 15 May 2017 Posted 15 May 2017 Imagine if we got relegated and had to go back to commentary's for games we couldnt attend
Koke Posted 15 May 2017 Posted 15 May 2017 Why are the BBC as a whole obsessed with lengthy highlight commentary packages and montages? It's a waste of time.

Might be able to find them more easily and avoid stringer.

But everyone else overseas will be able to watch Imagine, someone in the jungles of Cambodia can legally watch every premier league, championship, league 1, and league 2 game in HD over the internet. Meanwhile local fans will be listening to the radio, or watching some dodgy russian stream.

Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 15 May 2017 Posted 15 May 2017 Blokes a pillock. He got me on the radio after we lost 4-3 at Spurs. I went on a tirade about the referee, and he tried to make out I was trying to have a go at NP - which I absolutely was not. He clearly has an agenda, whatever anyone says to him. Describing him as a 'journalist' is being kind.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 15 May 2017 Posted 15 May 2017 He's just a complete and utter ****, pretty sure if they asked people who listen if they wanted rid it would be unanimous. He's clearly got dirt on someone, or he's one of those utter arselickers who probably carries the bags of the lads higher up on the hierarchy
Guest Lako42 Posted 16 May 2017 Posted 16 May 2017 Some easily offended people about. Players grow up, stringer grow up and anyone bothered by Stringer.....grow up

If that is the case that particular avenue is a dead in the water. The current EFL deal with the Leicester City Player is to cease at the end of June, so they have informed me.
LCFC FOX Posted 16 May 2017 Posted 16 May 2017 I'm pretty sure Shakespeare talks to him after every game?

Fox92 Posted 16 May 2017 Posted 16 May 2017 What did Stringer do? What did he "suggest" (hand movements??) ???

Ah, the point i was making is, every single premier league match is already being broadcast. Now it seems like the EFL is moving in that direction with this new deal.

Send someone else like Bourne? One of my favourite, awkward interviews was when Bourne interviewed Pearson after a match with Blackpool and it went something along the lines of "So Nigel, Blackpool today, Blackburn on Tuesday, are there too many blacks in the league" Clearly didn't mean it but still . I think he has got better though, Stringer will move onto 5 live soon I bet and believe he has already done a few non Leicester games.
