davieG Posted 13 July 2017 Posted 13 July 2017 John Percy 12 JULY 2017 • 6:33PM Leicester City are facing the prospect of last summer's six major signings leaving the club. They spent more than £60 million on Islam Slimani, Ahmed Musa, Nampalys Mendy, Ron-Robert Zieler and Bartosz Kapustka, but Leicester could offload them all as they streamline Craig Shakespeare's squad. Slimani was signed for a record £28m from Sporting Lisbon on deadline day last year but Leicester are prepared to allow the Algeria centre-forward to leave, either on loan or by selling him. Musa, a £16m capture from CSKA Moscow, has interest from clubs in the Premier League and abroad while £13m midfielder Mendy could join Bordeaux. Luís Hernández, signed on a free transfer in July from Sporting Gijon, departed the club for Malaga in the New Year while Zieler completed a £3.5m move to Stuttgart on Tuesday. Kapustka, the Poland international, is poised to join Freiburg on loan for the season and departs without making a league appearance for the club. Leicester's signings last year, made after winning the Premier League, were held up as a major reason for their difficult title defence under Claudio Ranieri, with January's £15m buy Wilfred Ndidi the only genuine success story of the season. Steve Walsh, the former head of recruitment, left for Everton in July and was eventually replaced by Eduardo Macia, who had previously worked at Liverpool and Valencia. Leicester's recruitment has already shown signs of dramatic improvement, however, after the £17million signing of Harry Maguire from Hull City Vicente Iborra has also joined from Sevilla and a £25m deal for Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho should go through by next week. Shakespeare, the manager, said: "When players come in, inevitably at every club there are departures. "As we go along players understand whether they will be in the starting 11 or not, and that can bring its own problems. Players are under contract with us and if we get the bids in for certain players, and we might get bids in for players who don’t want to leave, then there are decisions to make. "Ultimately there will be comings and goings. That is the same for every club."
GaelicFox Posted 13 July 2017 Posted 13 July 2017 Who ever signed those 6 turkeys also needs to go !!!!! Its easy to Blaim Claudio but others are equally responsible
Guest Col city fan Posted 13 July 2017 Posted 13 July 2017 This is one of the major reasons I hoped Shakey got the job. I think he knows exactly who he wants to keep and who he don't. The question is who will come in for them?

HighPeakFox Posted 13 July 2017 Posted 13 July 2017 As said elsewhere, binning everyone behind these purchases is not the answer.

I genuinely believe Shakey has the makings of a top manager, we will know better by the end of the season but things are looking a lot better than last year.
weller54 Posted 13 July 2017 Posted 13 July 2017 Add Amartey to that list too.. He'll never be a PL footballer.
murphy Posted 13 July 2017 Posted 13 July 2017 The amazing thing is that we actually made a profit on Hernandez and Zieler. Very telling I think that as soon as Shakey replaced Claudio, none of the summer signings got a look in.
ALC Fox Posted 13 July 2017 Posted 13 July 2017 It's quite easy to point the finger in hindsight. Many of those signings were long-term targets, such as Slimani, Musa and Mendy. They haven't worked out...yet. Out of all of them I think Slim has the best chance, but if Shakey wants to offload and recoup some money to spend on other players then so be it. But the point is that many of the signings were targets before we could have even dreamt of winning the league. It's true that so were the likes of Kasper, Drinky, Mahrez, Albrighton, Vardy and so and and so on. But the new signings arrived at the wrong moment. We had already achieved the finest thing this club has ever done, and it was done with no small amount of team spirit and togetherness. Those new signings were on a hiding to nothing from the first day. And they may not have been good enough for a title defence, and were never intended to be good enough for that - it's just that we hadn't any other targets. Perhaps. The way things worked out we needed Ndidi to help steady the ship. And it's quite clear that some of the team that won the title are older and need competition. Shakey clearly has a job on his hands when it comes to recruitment because he's got to find players who are both good enough for a tilt at European qualification (which he stated is his aim) and who will fit in with the clique. Hopefully Maguire, Iborra and Iheanacho fit the bill. They all appear to be good enough. But only time will tell.

He comes across as no-nonsense and one of those "get sh*t done" type of people. Of course it's the results on the pitch that will do the real talking but I've been impressed with Shakespeare and the club in recent weeks. It's a major shame that our recruitment last year was so bad, but sometimes you have to take one step back to take two steps forward. It does seem like we've learned our lesson and have course corrected. Post Fergie, Manchester United had a similarly bad window (Moyes wanted Fabregas and they ended up with Fellani instead!) and Everton did badly last year too. Personally I don't think all of the signings are bad and am in the "keep Slimani" camp. But behind the scenes it's possible some of the new players disrupted the team spirit we have (though I doubt it was intentional) and could be reason to ship them out. Even Iborra can speak pretty good English and I think keeping a British core is important to our success.
foxfanazer Posted 13 July 2017 Posted 13 July 2017 Not sure biffa will take all 6 in one go. Might have to leave 3 outside this week and the other 3 next week
Fox92 Posted 13 July 2017 Posted 13 July 2017 I think it'd be harsh on Slimani. I still believe if he can keep himself fit and get a good run in the side, he can get 12-14 goals with good service (which we've got in Fuchs and Albrighton etc).

Maybe on Hernandez as he was free and we only paid him for 6 months, but Zieler you would have to ignore his signing on fee and wages to make that work. We got very little in return for the outlay. Might as well have kept old man schwarzer on a fraction of the wage
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 13 July 2017 Posted 13 July 2017 Slim - unsure, he has something to offer but maybe not here Musa - Bin, 100%, I'll drive him to Russia myself etc Mendy - Would rather have James and Iborra as back-up Kapustka - would like him to go off on loan not a full transfer
Babylon Posted 13 July 2017 Posted 13 July 2017 Lets not forget a fair few of these players weren't our first choices last season. We tried to go down the route of buying English / from our leagues and we got scared off by the prices. The same could very well happen again this season and buying from abroad is always a risk. Unfortunately last season we had several things causing issues. Claudio clearing had a hand in some transfers or didn't trust the recruitment team (see Walsh having to convince him to go for Kante instead of Mendy the previous year). Walsh leaving (this dragged on for some time lets not forget), we don't know what impact that might have had on recruitment. Plus someone, Walsh, Rudkin, the board... didn't want to spend the extra it needed to buy from our leagues. Something we seem a bit more proactive about this season.
Marshall Cockney Fox Posted 13 July 2017 Posted 13 July 2017 Whilst it's borderline hilarious that were going to bin the lot, it also proves that our well oiled recruitment team is not all it's made out to be. Of which Mr Walsh was a major part. Some of those he will of endorsed, so Claudio (bless) shouldn't take all the heat.
foxinsocks Posted 13 July 2017 Posted 13 July 2017 I would keep mendy .... coz we dont know howfar he can go.... we should try him for a seasob season where hes not cropped at the first home hame I say keep slimani.... if he is given the right coaching i believe he can cut it as a prem cf. I have pisted before to list the personal development he needs for an hour every day. What halm could it do? I am prepared to work with him.... is he prepared to put in the effort
