FoxTrott Posted 8 August 2017 Posted 8 August 2017 If I'm honest, I'd be shocked if Mahrez stays during this transfer window (I think there are several clubs who will be desperate towards the end of the transfer window and will meet our valuation... see Sissoko). What worries me more is that it doesn't really look like we are lining up a like for like replacement. Are we happy with who we have as alternatives, Musa and Gray? Or are we assuming, as has been in the case in previous windows, work is being done under the hood to find someone else who fits the bill? I personally feel that Gray still isn't ready to be a first team starter (as much as I and he would love it to be the case) and Musa... he has his uses, I'm sure... But I really do feel slightly aggreviated that we don't have at least one strong link to a similar attacking mid - and I don't think Iheanacho fits this. What do people think?
Innovindil Posted 8 August 2017 Posted 8 August 2017 Switch to 5-2-1-2 fifa style. chilly albrighton wingbacks, 2 cms, nacho at 10, slim and vardy up front. No need for actual wingers. Sorted.
Guest Posted 8 August 2017 Posted 8 August 2017 could you not have written this in the mahrez thread? mods, you know what to do...
Leeds Fox Posted 9 August 2017 Posted 9 August 2017 Linking ourselves with another player, especially if we're looking at a fairly modest price does our negotiations with any Mahrez's suitors no good. No doubt we're fingering some pies but on the quiet, because we've still got our man.

Ric Flair Posted 9 August 2017 Posted 9 August 2017 If Mahrez goes then we must move for Thorgan Hazard or Jonathan Viera. Neither are left footed which might change the way we play but either of them would give us the creativity we badly need. Others we've been linked with who potentially might come in is Cafu from Ludogrets. I'd like to see us go in for Chadli at West Brom, I think he'd fit in. Or Munir from Barca. Or finally, I can't believe I forgot him... HAKIM ZIYECH.

foxy boxing Posted 9 August 2017 Posted 9 August 2017 We've got Demarai Gray who can play while we find a replacement

Gerard Posted 9 August 2017 Posted 9 August 2017 Personally I'd be quite happy to replace in house. I think Gray will be an outstanding player when he peaks and he's already PL quality. I want us to be that club that signs quality young players and gives them a chance rather than the like of Chelsea who have had the likes of Lukaku and De Bruyne on their books and would rather sell them than ease them into the first team squad, not to mention the likes of Solanke, Loftus-Cheek, etc. Unless we could replace Mahrez with a similar quality player which is highly unlikely we have Gray to slot straight in and also have Lawrence and Barnes who are relative unknown quantities. Musa might be given a chance to play wide left whilst Albrighton is better wide right as well, We can afford to take a chance on our younger players as we're a likely mid table team.

I understand where you're coming from, however... All summer we have asked for more creativity in the team. So replacing our only creative player (Mahrez) with a non-creative player like Gray doesn't make sense. Gray isn't going to create chances like Mahrez or unlock defences so we'd become reliant on Albrighton to supply Iheanacho and Vardy. If Mahrez does go, then we need to sign a replacement Imo.

Do you think Shakey and Rudders sold it like that to Iheanacho and Iborra when we signed them? Or do you think he may have mentioned a push for a European spot? Musa, Lawrence and Barnes are not going to achieve that, and Gray just isn't ready for a full season of that. If Mahrez leaves then we need to find a replacement

If Mahrez leaves then we need to find a replacement I aspire to European football to you know but expecting to finish above Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham is a lot to ask. We have some extremely talented young players at the club. Iheanacho, Gray, Chilwell and Nididi. It would be fantastic if we could forge a reputation that young players can come here and get a chance and thrive. Monaco have that reputation in France and I believe Dortmund to a lesser extent. Buying a 27 year old mid table quality player instead of trusting Gray sends out the wrong message. I think Gray will eventually be an outstanding player and he's old enough now to be trusted to be a first team player and should be allowed to develop. As for Lawrence then we either need to make a path for him to get involved as a squad player or just sell him. If Mahrez goes we need to trust Gray and Lawrence or we should just get rid of them. The same with Chilwell, he needs to be groomed to be Fuchs successor or sold. I'd be really annoyed if we spent £12m on another mid table standard PL left back.
chapero82 Posted 9 August 2017 Posted 9 August 2017 In my eyes we should already be getting his replacement in because if he does stay he may not even turn up like last season!
