Mad Dog Posted 16 August 2017 Posted 16 August 2017 This question has come up in several separate threads recently; usually off the back of one of our world beating youngsters going out on loan instead of being given a chance. I'd like to ask this outright; since watching City, which of our players have left and gone on to play consistently at a higher level than us? I struggle to think of many at all.. Kante, obviously. McCauley, went on to have a long career in the top flight. Surprising this one, I didn't really see it myself when he was here. Seemed a plodder but found the perfect home at West Brom. Stearman, debatable but he did play in the top flight after leaving us and Wolves were better off than us for several years. Can anyone think of *any* others?
Bert Posted 16 August 2017 Posted 16 August 2017 Wouldn't say any of Stearman or McAuley have gone on to better things. They've made decent careers for themselves but none of them have a premier league winners medal.
Stadt Posted 16 August 2017 Posted 16 August 2017 Heskey and Lineker. Obviously going along way back.
urban.spaceman Posted 16 August 2017 Posted 16 August 2017 Matt Smith. Didn't make it here due to injury then ended up being Doctor Who. Pretty successful.

Koke Posted 16 August 2017 Posted 16 August 2017 In the last 15 years only McAuley and Stearman went on to better things (at the time) and had decent careers. Kante is an obvious one as well.
RODNEY FERNIO Posted 16 August 2017 Posted 16 August 2017 Probably Neil Lennon won more medals than anyone ... but most of them were north of the border. Players that won the title after leaving Leicester ? Kante , Gary Mac, David Nish, Allan Clarke, Shilton ... any more ? Suppose as Shilton won two European cups with a certain club he must have done better than anybody.
Sampson Posted 16 August 2017 Posted 16 August 2017 Kramaric was POTY for a top 4 Bundesliga side last season.
Sir Shep Posted 16 August 2017 Posted 16 August 2017 Savage, oh no wait he didn't did he, he just thought he had.
Manwell Pablo Posted 16 August 2017 Posted 16 August 2017 Think you've got to determine what your actually asking, Whether they moved on to better things compared to the Leicester City we were at the time they left or the team we are now. The former alot, the latter, not very many at all as we've won the league
Fox92 Posted 16 August 2017 Posted 16 August 2017 Stearman and McAuley - especially McAuley - got better moves at the time. We'd just been relegated to League One, Stearman joined Wolves and then got promoted. McAuley - via Ipswich - has become a regular PL defender. I never understood Hume. Wanted to leave and went to Barnsley I'd rather have stayed at Leicester.

Savage played in the Premier League for the remainder of his career (aside from the back end with Derby). We were relegated, played against him how many times in the PL? One season? 03-04. He didn't win anything but his move was better than playing second tier football.

Mad Dog Posted 16 August 2017 Author Posted 16 August 2017 Savage is a good shout. Izzet & Piper could have done bar injuries. Heskey and Lennon another two. It's really not many at all is it. Certainly none of the youngsters (think of the 'highly rated' ones we let go; Sheehan, Dodds, Wesolwski, Petrescu, Wright, Mattock etc!)
The Horse's Mouth Posted 16 August 2017 Posted 16 August 2017 could argue Gradel, he's a bit ****ed at the minute but was quite successful in France

Bossman Blessed It Posted 16 August 2017 Posted 16 August 2017 Knockaert - I think leaving Leicester, really finding his feet and securing promotion turned a boy into a man - albeit a drop in division initially but I think he's succeeded considerably given what he went through off the field too. Inler wasn't getting into our team but plays Champions League football every season at Besiktas now... Frank Sinclair managed to steal a living up until the ripeness of his early forties.
katieakita Posted 16 August 2017 Posted 16 August 2017 Frank Mclintock apart his managerial career, Alan Smith, Alan Clarke and a Theo Zagorakis
