KingKoala Posted 26 August 2017 Posted 26 August 2017 I don't think starting with Slimani would have changed the result a bit. Sad but it's just that they are far better team as a whole.. Shaky could have done better with sub maybe but who knows.. They have quality and on form like Real Madrid ATM..

That's the saddest thing about today, how far we've regressed in 18 months. I know we keep going on about it but almost all the signings we've made haven't improved the team one iota. Without Kante we get overrun in the midfield and our defence is beaten for quality and pace too often. James, as much as I like him, does not have an effect on games, he doesn't win the ball, nor is he creative. He doesn't look good enough, certainly not in a 2 anyway. Ndidi is quality when he gets going but he couldn't get into the game either. Mahrez put more of a shift in today and looked dangerous - but let himself down badly with excessive selfishness in possession. He had the ball in several decent positions at the edge of the box but chose to shoot from unreasonable angles instead of trying to pick out a better placed teammates. Gray was similarly frustrating when he came on. Had we done better in those positions, the result may have been different, but make no mistake we were second best for the majority of the game. The first 15 minutes were good but after that we stopped pressing and looked scared. We were pinned in our own half for the next 75 and only Schmeichel's brilliance and some determined defending kept us in the game. We are badly lacking in quality and it's a bit of a concern. The spine of our title winning team is looking old or likely to leave soon, with 1 or 2 exceptions, and if we're not careful we're going to be left with a very sub-standard squad. The central midfield lacks a ball winner, which means we need to play 3 in the middle against better teams; straight away sacrificing a position either up front or at the back. I've no idea why we've not tried to replace Kante with another ball winner, it is essential to the way we like to play. Everton couldn't get Kante so they got Gueye, who was second to him in the tackling/interception stats. We should have done something similar. Because of our poor recruitment we have a squad full of players who aren't good enough, and a midfield of players without specific roles. We're giving new deals to players who aren't equipped to play in the first team and I'm really concerned as to what our long term strategy is. We're in desperate need of a defender with a bit of pace, a midfielder who wins the ball and another who can use it well when they get it (at least to compete with Ndidi and Drinkwater, the latter of which is 'injured', may leave and has had poor form for quite some time). And even after those prorities, we've got about 5 defenders, 3 midfielders and 2 strikers who aren't up to the job and need replacing ASAP. Saddest thing about today is how far we've regressed in the last 18 months you tw@t. We lifted the pl trophy there's only one way to go. Try looking at how we've improved in the last six. Your tunnel vision is unbelievable, the actual sad thing is you pick some holes in our game out quite well but give zero credit or even have any insight into how our opponents totally out did us. I feel good good about what Ive seen so far, brushed Brighton aside and given two top six teams a serious game on their own patch when this time last year all any ground that is used to hosting cl football had for us was a hiding, come half time we were normally out the game.
Guest the fox Posted 27 August 2017 Posted 27 August 2017 This is how I imagine shakey would talk to gray. Shakey :"dimi, you need to pass more" Gray :...

I think it would've changed things, for the worse! Shinji put a shift in and helped the best he could to be the extra man in midfield!
Parafox Posted 27 August 2017 Posted 27 August 2017 I want to post this in the "Absolute C**nts of our Time" thread. Mark "I know about football" Lawrenson. Clueless has-been. Claimed Kasper's penalty save was down to a poor penalty kick and was "a good height for the keeper and that Kasper moved forward before the kick was taken", as if no keeper ever does that. Then said Manure's first goal all was due to Kasper having "chocolate wrists". ****ing ex-Liverpool twat who thinks all football revolves around them. The man is a complete one-sided, football ignorant, blinkered dick. Sack the twat, he's worse then that ex-Newcastle bellend

If we lose to Liverpool and chelsea we shouldn't get to worried. The fa have well and truly shat on us with our opening fixture list but we looked good against Brighton and we still have players to come back (iheanacho, iborra, huth and maybe drinky if he doesn't leave) so i think we'll be ok. United are gonna destroy most teams this year and so they should when they spend more on one player than most clubs spend on their entire squad. We should stick with shakey and the lads and im sure we'll come good soon!
Dan Posted 27 August 2017 Posted 27 August 2017 We just invite far too much pressure in these types of games, we haven't ever really adapted to losing Kante and we still play at times like he's there. I thought we defended well for most of the game, but as usual undone by some pathetic, basic defending from a set piece, entirely predictable what happened. Much improved on last year's 'effort' there, but still some flaws. Our ball retention is truly awful at times, the worst in the league by a mile, for all I've no issue with not being a possession side we have taken it so far that it's become detrimental. We just asked for trouble and that it only took 70 minutes for us to concede is testament to how well the defence played. But at the same time I think they'll hardly drop any points at OT this season, and they'll concede comfortably less than a goal a game there too.
WigstonWanderer Posted 27 August 2017 Posted 27 August 2017 Wasn't really that impressed with this showing tbh. Result was probably in line with the more optimistic predictions, so not a disaster by any means, but the performance was that of a poor whipped dog begging for scraps from it's master. Gave them far too much respect and didn't offer much going forward for most of the match. Yes, we held out for over 3 quarters of the match, but let's be honest, it could have been 2 or 3 nil down by the time we conceded. Mahrez looked looked quite threatening at times but was woefully badly supported, with players standing watching while he was isolated on the right rather than offering an easy pass option. I don't know whether they've given up,expecting a pass from him or just can't be arsed. Surely this is something that can be worked on? Passing generally throughout the match was absolutely dreadful, with the usual default hoofball most of the time. How much better did we look against Arsenal where we had a go?

It's no coincidence Ndidi is looking poor (he is, I'm afraid) playing alongside a worse midfielder than Drinkwater. Or they've looked poor because they have played united and arsenal away.

Yeah but of course he is, he's playing with James so it's bound to make him look worse... it's not like he's been poor himself
Foxy_jim Posted 27 August 2017 Posted 27 August 2017 Are people for real? We lost to man u away??? We are Leicester, what do people expect? Because we spent 50m on a few players (2 of which weren't playing- Iborra and Iheanacho) what we are expected to go to old Trafford and win? They will be top 2 this year have one of the best coaches in the world, and have spent more than anyone last few years, hundreds of millions. We cannot compete with the top 6 and that's fact, we did ok today. Those dissing James performance too must be blind, thought he was one of our best players, won tackles competed with a midfield 2 who cost a combined £130m, all this having not played much in 2 years. One worrying thing is the form of Ndidi who was largely garbage. Cost us 2 goals already this season not marking Ramsey or Rashford.

And almost definitely to Utd. Too early to say. They and Man City, etc have looked good in previous seasons early on and then faltered.
yorkie1999 Posted 27 August 2017 Posted 27 August 2017 This game showed how much we're missing the creativity of drinkwater over James. Far quicker player in both ability and thought this is what's lacking at the moment.
Bunyip Posted 27 August 2017 Posted 27 August 2017 We got what we deserved I'm afraid. Only a fool would set up so negative and hope to defend for 90 minutes + against Man United at Old Trafford ( especially in their present form). sorry to say we are a very long way from that team that set out to win come what may only a short time ago. Ndidi was so far out of his depth it was embarrassing and I'm afraid so was Shakespear. Mid table beckons, and I'm afraid Mcguire won't be here next season either. The owners need to get a grip before we continue the slide back to our usual status.

Anyone who expects more than mid table is mad. We won the league it was amazing and a sporting miracle, it doesn't mean we can compete with the top clubs every year, they spent more on 2 players (lukaku and pogba) than our whole squad cost. It's ridiculous expectations that spread negativity we should just enjoy our recent success and get behind our players who mainly came from nowhere for modest fees.

You and anyone else thinking we can get 7th or upwards regularly isn't living in the real world. Money dictates positions more often than not and we don't spend enough to get much further than midtable.
ronnup Posted 27 August 2017 Posted 27 August 2017 We were far from good. But Man U look excellent. Their midfield is sensational and ours is a kid and a man who's hardly played. We rely on our ability to defend and break. The breaking was shit. The defending wasn't enough. We missed Danny. Gray was shit. He puts Riyad in when he had he chance and we potentially scrape a draw.
Callabinho Posted 27 August 2017 Posted 27 August 2017 If Ihear one more person say United were sensational I'll scream.....THEY ARE NOT ****ING SENSATIONAL... we sat off them and basically allowed them to score.... they will not piss the league and I think they will struggle to finish in the top four..... we were beyond shit, which eventually allows them to score two shit goals. They are no no better than last year.

Can we blame CR 100% for this? That would be easy.
