Some people are using covid as an overly convenient excuse not to come into the office. If you work in any size of team bigger than 2, in what world is that sustainable in the long run?

Depends on how sophisticated the IT software a company has. My company is largely leaving people at home, as we’ve seen increased productivity, less sick days, less internal squabbling etc

This one might be controversial but “religion”.

With science having proved so much, I find it detrimental to current society, when you think it’s been largely responsible for so much loss of life. Especially some of the outdated beliefs,  that have largely impacted gender equality. This has been highlighted again with the recent occurrences in Afghanistan.

And the bible. If Harry Potter would have been been written 2000 odd years ago, would he be the “Jesus”? Would people be workshopping Harry Potter?

IMO I tend to split this into two ideas.

Generic religious belief that a deity exists and behaves in a way described by religious texts? Fine.

Exhorting religious doctrine based on those texts that is then used to apply laws or moral codes to a society? Not fine.

If you deleted all religions from the world today, more newly created ones would just pop up in their place. It is in human nature to need something to believe in. There are also formal recognised religions, like Laveyan Satanism and Baha'i, only created in the last 50-150 years.

Harry Potter isn't a good example as it doesn't tell people what to do. But it's really easy for people to create religions based on their worldview, and these won't necessarily be less harmful than the existing popular ones. You just have to look at the cults that constantly pop up. Something like a more formalised 'incel' religion, with Elliot Rodger as their messiah would be quite possible.

This is true, which is a reason why establishing a bigger distinction between the two ideas I put forward above is so important IMO.

Some companies are starting to reduce the wages of those workers working from home so I guess that kind of answers your question..

Guys on this forum that get worked up about some people being a bit PC, get a life guys. Football is all about the drama, bants, pantomine and not having to accept blatant racism and sexism (among other isms).

If you want a forum where nobody ever challenges the racists and the sexists (among other ists) and this forum becomes that, I will be gone. I’m not arrogant enough to suggest that many people would be particularly bothered whether I was here or not. Why on earth would they?

The recent spate of comic book movies is nothing but a cynical cash grab and they're not very good.

This might shock you, but the vast majority of films are made to make money. A big studio isn't going to pump millions into a project and not care if it sells. They'll give someone £150m to make a superhero film if they are pretty sure they'll make £300m back.

One step further: tolerating behaviour that is morally dubious, personally sabotaging or harmful to children because it’s in the name of religion is absurd. Secular lawmakers need to draw a line and apply it to everybody.

No issues with that, let's be clear about about racism and sexism, we all agree they are wrong.

But to push your own thoughts on and opinions on what you disagree on is also wrong.

This is a forum of widely disputed topics, disputes on topics is fine but anyone wants to tell me how I should respond and the language I use (which is not racist or sexist) then the mods can decide.  As far as I am concerned, if you don't like what I say, there is a button you can press to ignore me and my posts.

Indeed. Agreed.

I’m puzzled by this. Are you saying that although racism and sexism are wrong, it’s also wrong to challenge them when you encounter them? If you are, then I can’t agree.

Unless I’m misunderstanding, this is inconsistent. You’re allowed to say what you want, but I’m not allowed to say that I don’t like it? Surely I’m also allowed to say what I want, including that I don’t like what you said, if that’s the case?
