Strong 'oooooh, look at us, we're much better at being football fans than you are" vibes from this lot

Hardly an unpopular opinion in this country.

I'm not so much of a fan of the capo at the front with a megaphone but I think the banners and the flags is great. Adds real colour to the ground.

What you want in England is a fan group who are capable of getting a chant/song going and capable of creating novel ones (even if most are to familiar tunes). Throw in the odd creative banner / message and that's perfect.

I wouldnt go as far as that personally but its defintely an overused tool seen as gospel by twitter fan boys. If it was as important as some make out we'd be seeing Brighton in the champions league quarter finals by now.

Its on par with possession stats for me in terms of relevance -  a higher figure than your opposition makes you are more likely to win the given match but obviously not a given.

No one over 75 should be allowed to become a prime minister ..  or a president ..

Well we've not had a PM aged over 75 in living memory, I think it was the end the 1800 we last had one that old, so our woes can't be blamed on them being doddery old fools.

It’s just aimed at Sleepy Flannel ..  every time I see the doddery old tw@t I just shake my head ..  as well as being intelligent a president must be dynamic and have stamina ..  imo ..  look at Zelensky ..  if their positions were swapped I’m sure things would be very very different.

Feels a bit ageist to be honest. Biden looks even older than he is but he's basically done what he was elected to do - be moderate and avoid the kind of antics of his predecessor (who is of similar vintage).

Dont blame the person, blame the members and public who vote them in

Ah that’s just it ..  sometimes people vote for someone cus they don’t like the alternatives and sometimes they vote for a particular party cus they always vote for it .  If you put an age cap on it you just stop doddery old duffers before they get into that position.

And yes, it is very likely to be an ‘unpopular opinion’ ..  :)

Applying an age ban to any position is fundamentally wrong IMO.  I recognise that as we age both our minds and bodies deteriorate but there are people over the age of 70 out there that have more knowledge and mental acumen than others half their age.  So the only standard I recognise is competence.

An age ban for a politician is also the thin end of the wedge.  If that was introduced how long would it be before some bright (and presumably young) spark came up with the idea that the old couldn't really be trusted to vote sensibly and an age cap was put on the right to vote (after all, we have a lower age limit, right).  That would marginalise the old in society.

Transgender women should not be able to compete in women's sports categories. I feel like a complete bigot for saying it, but there is unquestionably a distinct physical advantage.

I acknowledge that it's a grey area because I understand transgender women wouldn't want to complete with men.

I can understand the argument, and I don't think it's necessarily bigoted when explained well as it is here.

Perhaps this is an unpopular opinion of my own, but I think perhaps it's time to delineate sporting competitions along a different metric to the "binary", given what we know about the human body now. Different sports night need different styles of delineation, but I don't see how that would be overly problematic.

I do agree, it's mainly because I know that I would be lynched in certain circles for expressing that opinion.

Such is the effect of social media on discourse, sadly.

However, there are still big gaps in equality of opportunity in society, and I can see why the marginalised, and those who ally with them, would be angry and confrontational when the progress they look for and deserve is blocked for no good reason by those with more power.

Transgender issues are fairly straightforward in my mind ..  with regard to situations like toilets and prisons for example where ‘men’ have been known to take advantage of the situation (rape etc) ..  use the toilet/prison specifically for the parts they have not how you dress. For sports they can only compete against people who are the same as how they were born.

... which excludes a statistically significant proportion of the population.

If there's no other choice but to do so, then fair enough, but I'm reasonably sure other solutions do exist for these problems.
