Sort of piggybacking on the debate/conversation above, but music snobs who try to assert that their subjective preference of a band/style of music/song is superior to XYZ is one of the highest forms of bellendery. Can judge a person very much on the tone they take with music.

People like what they like. Music has, and always will be subjective. It's not for anyone to thrust their opinions that a song or album is crap. It's crap to your ears, it might be crap to millions of ears, but if it's good to someone's specific set of ears then, I dunno, deal with it?

There's a cost of living crisis but you'd not tell by looking on the roads. Every twat driving a brand new BMW, Audi, Merc. My car's 10 years old and I'm often the oldest car by a distance when I look round at the lights.

Maybe a fair proportion of those cars are company cars or hire cars. I prefer driving an oldish, non-prestige make of car, knowing that my running costs are far lower and that I've got the money to throw at more important things in life than merely a fancy set of wheels.

Do people have company cars anymore? Maybe 20 years ago but you're not being given a company car with a boggo office job anymore like you used to.

Tbh, I've been out of the rat race for nearly 20 years and have completely lost touch with it all, thank god. For me, the car is just a machine to get from A to B in reasonable comfort, without having to rely on public transport.

I think one of the contributing problems is people make poor decisions. Finance/leasing is so easy so people take out deals on nice new cars that they can’t really afford. Same with lots of other things that are essential but can be done significantly cheaper.

Not trying to take away from the crises at all because there is a serious problem but good financial decisions will help people a lot.

Cars are aspirational and we are like enormous magpies when it comes to them.
Also, PCH is a total sh*t show when it comes to cars. Plenty of people I know refresh cars every 1-2 years and continue to build up loses when they exchange, all so they can have a shiny thing.

I'm sure you're right up to a point. However, from my own experience, like ambition, the aspirational aspect tends to fade as you get older. In the 80s, I had a fairly flashy Japanese car. It got vandalised 3 times, and in the end, I hated it. Since then, I've stuck to boring cars that nobody looks at twice. The personalised number plate has also gone. Well - not quite - it's held on retention, just in case I have another mid-life crisis in old age!

Are you denying the existence of "Second Coming"?

I wouldn't blame you, it's a challenging listen

' Love Spreads' is their best track though IMO

I have a nostalgic affection for Britpop. Not because it's any good. It's wasn't that good at all really, and has aged pretty badly. It just reminds me of my teenage years and takes me back to that time.

I feel exactly the same. Part of me loves it more than anything. But when I listen objectively a lot of it is pretty lame. X

Funnily enough, I would rarely if ever put on a Blur, Pulp or Oasis track, but I do sometimes listen to Shed Seven and Echobelly.  OCS were decent at the time, although the band were better when playing with Paul Weller :)

I saw good ol’ Shed Seven a few times. They were probably my favourite band at one point. I’d never listen to them now and they’re pretty shite really but I’ll always love them.

Agree completely. I always try and say “my favourite band/song/etc” rather than “the best band/song/etc”. I love so much music and a lot of it would be classed as good and a lot shite. I can be a nobhead. In fact, I am a nobhead in many ways but I try not to be a music snob really. I’ll slag bands off but it’s usually tongue in cheek*.

*unless you actually like Ocean Colour Scene obviously in which case you’re a massive nobsack with no nob.

So many good memories.  It felt like they played somewhere around every week at one point.

To this day, whenever I sit an exam (ridiculously this is still something I have to do from time to time) I'll prepare by listening to Shed 7's 'Going for Gold'.

It doesn't guarantee success, but it seems to work most of the time. Others say revising would be more helpful, I'm less sure

The intro is like a solo. Always been one of my favourites.
