adam Posted 30 September 2017 Posted 30 September 2017 Just had an awful thought. Do we reckon the club may give Appleton a chance if they got shot of Shakespeare. Frightening.

Was always going to be a recipe for disaster with him in the mix of the management team... You know what I genuinely forgot until read your comment we had Appleton Maybe it's just me but I haven't noticed him once...never noticed him on touchline or anything!!! But obviously I haven't been paying much attention
An Away Move Posted 30 September 2017 Posted 30 September 2017 Pearson? The guy who played Vardy as a winger and the one who sold flair players like Knocky and Gradel? The one with such rigid tactics that we barely won a Premier League game until we were so ****ing desperate that we had to play 'shit or bust' in the Great Escape season, whereby we stumbled across 'our style'. Nah! Rose tinted spectacles. We ain't in the Championship. And he couldn't recreate it at Derby. The past is the past. Thanks for all you did Nigel, but this team need something new.
wokinghamfox Posted 30 September 2017 Posted 30 September 2017 Big Nige had continued and most importantly consistant development with success along the way. I am convinced that we would have won the prem with him in charge. I would like to see him back.

Claudio made so many smart substitutions at just at the right moment during our title winning season. Let's not forget that in the cloud of the season that followed. There's no guarantee that Pearson would have even played Vardy as an out and out striker that season.

Knockaert wasn't good enough at the time to cement a place. Then his contract ran out. Where is Gradel now? Yep, no where special.

SheppyFox Posted 30 September 2017 Posted 30 September 2017 Nah, he’s an embarrassment with his nonsense, good guy has had me in stitches a good number of times however.
nnfox Posted 30 September 2017 Posted 30 September 2017 Love Nige but jeez, that ship has sailed. We need a complete overhaul as opposed clinging on by our fingernails to a past era viewed through rose tinted glasses. Progress, not regress.

Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 30 September 2017 Posted 30 September 2017 Pearson thread once again, I may start a bring back Martin O'Neill thread.
Babylon Posted 30 September 2017 Posted 30 September 2017 If CS can't turn it around then we're at a cross roads. I fear the yearning for things past and attempting to recreate past things is what's holding us back. We need new ideas, doesn't have to be a revolution in style but evolution like we said in the summer!
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 30 September 2017 Posted 30 September 2017 Anyone who doesn't like Nige is because they hate the English working class and that's a fact. For me if Shakey doesn't work out it's either him or Chris Wilder who should come in.

Don't know if this still happens, mind.

Matt Posted 30 September 2017 Posted 30 September 2017 When I say we need to bring him back I don't necessarilly mean bring him back in a managerial capacity. A DoF as already suggested or an advisory role - Is that the same as a DoF? All i'm saying is we need him in some sort of capacity, he knows how to build, he knows what is needed, admittedly sometimes his football and tactics weren't great but they were effective, they brought success so I am somewhat majorly bias towards Nige, I admit that. As manager or not, we need him to do a job for us again.

Not sure how much of a factor this really is, but I certainly can't imagine Man Utd or Forest players calling their Manager 'Fergie' or ''Cloughie' back in the day...
Wdywd Posted 30 September 2017 Posted 30 September 2017 Surely the only reason Appleton came here was for a potential shot at the main job at some point. He was already a manager who took an assistant job. And the club has previous for the assistant stabbing the manager in the back
Kitchandro Posted 30 September 2017 Posted 30 September 2017 Imagine wanting Shakespeare out and then wanting Pearson in even though he does exactly the same things.

He didn't play Vardy as a winger. This is a bloody myth that has taken foothold. He gently built Vardy into the player he is today and in any interview Vardy has ever done about Nige he has nothing but amazing things to say about him. I have a screensaver picture of them celebrating a goal together, it's a thing of absolute beauty!! Knocky is doing really well for Brighton in the prem right? Oh wait. Gradel was playing for Bournemouth a few years back, sold. Good decisions. Great lower league players, weren't good enough for us in our progression though. He built an incredible team designed around ethic and high morale. A team of players who would fight and care and support eachother, who would give everything for this club, because this club was the one that gave them the oppertunity to succeed. He nurtured Vardy, Albrighton, James, King, Drinky, Shlupp into the squad and gave them resting periods when required. His man management skills are exceptional, he is highly regarding by all the managers/coaches I have ever met (Pulis, Hurst, Curbishly, Pearce, Alex Watson, Nigel Quintock (saints scout)....) He didn't recreate anything at Derby because the infrastructure there is terrible and the chairman is a meddling lunatic who spies on people with drones.
