Why did we sack Craig Shakespeare...?

I think I saw quite a few talking about "Rudkin out!" Well before, especially when  we did not put in the paperwork for a player we needed in midfield, and sold a midfielder before we had a proper replacement.  Obvious incompetence (from who exactly is still a mystery).

Funny thing is, we've actually replaced Drinky with Iborra as it stands. So arguably Rudkin did sort a replacement months before Drinky was sold, and it's only the Mendy replacement who's registration is being held up..

I think there was a lot of good will towards shakey... from np supporters.. from pro and anti cr supporters.

But sadly it wasn't looking good.   It needed to be addresses sooner rather than later.

When they binned cr they had no one lined up.  The only reason to give him longer woukd have been to sort out the sucession.

I liked craig.  But i could see he was way too cautious (after the spurs defeat) and may have found new thinking hard to introduce.

It will be justified based on what happens next.

Honestly I think because if we’d have had a manager and not a number 2 running things we’d have beaten Arsenal, probably one or two other top sides too by now. Also because as owners I’m sure they’ll be wanting a fresh start from the NP reign, infact if they didn’t they’d have kept CS on.

Also consider they have spent money on “footballing” players, as in silva, Iborra, Iheanacho, they probably don’t want to see them wasted in a hoof ball system, which I’d say unfortunately is at the limit of shakeys know how.

It was always a big ask of him to step up into premier league management and he looked out of his depth towards the end of last season and throughout this. Easy decision to move on.

We didn't sack anybody; the owners did. Ultimately, they're the ones investing into the club and it's their decision to choose who they employ.

I understand we weren't playing particularly well although I don't think the results were disasterous. What rankles me is that every time the owners sack a manager they have no clue what they want to do. Sack Sven and get the former manager in, sack Pearson and bring in the first "name" who makes it known he wants the job, sack Ranieri and bring in the caretaker. Every man has had success but it is out of luck and not real planning on the owners part and once again a manager has gone and they are flailing around for someone to come in and sooner or later the luck will run out.

Agree ,In reality that was the base point of me  opening this thread,..even if it had been underhanded, surely it would of been

Professional and prudent, to have a couple of names, lined up, ready and waiting...also the board is not just Rudkin,

Others have mouths, isnt anybody capable of saying...ssshhhh but lets try and see if we can get a new guy in before,

we show him the door.  To me it wasnt panicking but incompetent..

I thought it was a little early given the promise of the last 15 against WBA. But we were playing very poorly. The manager seemed very fixed in his approach to games despite the poor returns we were getting. The only real change was that we seemed to be less and less ambitious and energetic by the game.

What we can be sure of is that higher up the chain we are a mess. How he got a three year deal I don't know. Why we got shot without a plan for moving forward I also couldn't say why.

The results were bad, the performances were poor. Yes injuries didn't help, yes the silva saga was out of his hands and yes he wasn't responsible for recruiting players even though every man and his dog knew that our midfield needed strengthening. Still I for one am glad he's no longer managing the team, all be it I'd still love it if he was a coach here and he'll always be a legend for what he's achieved here, just not as a manager.

How bad were the results Liverpool could have won missed penalty first goal should have been saved similarly with Chelsea Arsenal our usual luck Man u again first goal should have been saved second offside. Huddersfield far better than Man u but a draw for us is  a disater. WBA  havent beaten at home for 30 years  Bournemouth couldnt beat when we won the league a real bogey side all clubs have them

I’m of the opinion the Arsenal game killed it for him. We’ve not replicated a performance like that since yesterday. He knows he made a bad move with the subs and I think he lost a lot of confidence.

Eitherway he shouldn’t have got the job, it was unfair to expect a man with no real management experience in the past, only the odd caretaker stint to be able to manage in the premier league...

We bash Rudkin, but he favoured Wagner pre season.... maybe it was the owners who decided with the best intentions to give it to Shakey and it all went pear...

All of these stupid articles piss me off... there’s no conspiracy or power problem at the club, we’ve simply made a few errors behind the scenes, let’s not forget the owners aren’t football people per say, so they need advisors and so far you can’t really be angry at anything they have done, Claudio clearly lost it, and they just made a bit of a mess with the replacement... the way people have been talking about us you’d think Moulder and Scully would be sent to investigate...

Its a forum!!!  , so I decided to see, if one could suss out, feeling and thoughts from other angles.

The performance of the team have been poor, even turgid, but this forum has been really depressing of late,

many statements and cl s im counter Claim arguments, including conspiracies based on nothing!!!!

Surely the win yesterday was vindication?

In a week under Appleton’s training we looked much better drilled than most games under Shakey. We were regressing under Shakespeare too.

Nothing to do with Swansea being shite then?

@Callabinho...

whoops sorry!!!   But after your reply, I decided to cancel the invitation, I had set up for moulder and Scully.

The Lamas and King Dick , seemed to have lost that spiritual path that was such a force and help to us.

So much now seems Alien to us I, thought a bit of Moulder, Scully and David Vincent from the Invaders,

might help to find the truth...

I must admit I was disappointed with CS this season but I still think that the sacking was harsh and too early.  If you are going to give him the job at least give him the time to have a proper go at it.

A lot of questions about Shakespeare being a promoted number 2 but what really is the difference?  He has been a well regarded coach for a long time and therefore will be very tactically aware.  Perhaps I am showing my ignorance but why is there such a difference between a manager and a coach aside from being closer to the players as coach?

Anyway, CS is someone I will always hold in high esteem and thank him for keeping us up last year and for playing such a huge part in the ride of our lives.

He was sacked because the style of play wasn't good enough. The whole thing wasn't his fault alone- the decision to sell Drinkwater before replacing him was ridiculous and left us short in a crucial area of the squad. The players also needed to take more responsibility and start doing more than just ambling about playing laboured football.

I don't believe he should've been given the job permanently but that isn't his fault, he was appointed by other people. But when he had the job, he didn't help himself with the tactics, team selections and style of play. We have to play aggressively and get in the faces of the opposition- when we don't we look awful. We played the same formation with the same sitting off tactics that left us chasing games or struggling to stay in them in the past six matches.

He can have complaints about his sacking but also needs to analyse his own performance. But I don't believe he should be the only one to leave, either.

I can't be bothered to read the post tbh, the thread title alone is just silly. He was sacked because he wasn't good enough, the question is why he was appointed in the first place. I think the answer to that is perhaps more concerning.

We'll be better off if we can appoint a decent manager. It's up to the board to find one. We got a win yesterday so the decision to sack has done us no harm.

It wasn’t a dig at your threat, I was referring to the papers, and journalist who are trying to imply there’s something sinister going on at the club!
