Why did we sack Craig Shakespeare...?

I actually thought he was doing fine apart from the terrible subs.

Keep in mind we haven't had to play a 'decent' team yet since the Shakey sacking, so jury's still out on whether we're any better now.

We parked the bus against Huddersfield and Bournemouth. He literally said post match he would have taken a point at half time at Hudderdield  (it was 0-0 at HT). You can't get anymore negative than that. We stunk up the place v WBA.

Neil Ashton's article was revealing. Seems rudkin never wanted shakey to have the job full time and was itching for the first chance to get rid.  Had he waited and our results picked up a bit then he would maybe have struggled to convince the owners. suspect Tuesday was his opportunity after the drabbish performance Monday night.

hopefully the new man will have the confidence of both DOF and owners (or we can look forward to more dramas)

What doesn't add up about this one is that the bloke we've appointed was actually available in the summer.

Puel was probably so far down the list that he was barely considered. Perhaps Shakey's form with the club out weighed even considering him. I know, its fvckin weird, but high expectations and all that, creates false perceived value. Puel was probably seen as some nonsensical boring cvnt cast off by the premiership at the time.

Evidently the owners wanted shakey (in the event that they couldn't get Rafa )

I wonder if the downturn in form under Shakes convinced the owners that they had to do something to shake up the malaise that had set in - that they couldn't find a magical time machine back to 2015 - 2016.

I think the owners may have grown tired of the reliance on the old guard being selected, shite transfer dealings (not down to Shakey) and the incentent ‘Hoof-ball’ tactics.  They had to give him a chance after the sacking of CR, so remedied their dissatisfaction early on.

Presumably you mean Appleton’s two games - I’m not convinced the players knew what they were doing last Sunday for the entire 90 mins !!

Really? did you ever see Gray play like that before?

I’ll let you know in five hours

imo, we didn’t seem to have a proper structure second half and saw the game out because

a) we have form in doing this

b) Everton were toothless

To the OP, you seem to be one of those people who think 17th is our target every season and we cannot have ambition.

Sorry I dont agree.

To me its pretty evident why he was sacked.

We had poor results "and" perhaps just as important if not more, poor performances, we were regressing with every passing game.  The club statement confirmed this but it was obvious anyway.

That doesnt mean I dont think there is problems elsewhere because I think there is, I personally we should be replacing rudkin but it seems he will stay in place.

Yes we had injuries, we cannot play silva, drinkwater was sold behind his back.  We had a tough start, but the performances were abysmal against all the teams we were expecting to beat.

Also you cannot say the title win should be ignored as some kind of weird event, most of that squad is still playing with us, so obviously we know what they capable off and expectations are based on that.

Appleton needs Puel, Puel needs Appleton - they are compliments. I think Shakey and Appleton might have been too alike to be effective together.

Shakey and Appleton I think similar personalities but Appleton seems to prefer more possession vs direct hoof like shaky did.

Puel looks like a guy who does his homework on the opponent, wont be too close to players, and so I agree with appleton and puel complementing each other.

I would bat an eyelid if Puel got rid of Appleton to be honest. I’d rather the new manager got the team around him that he wants instead of being stuck with a bloke who himself has only been here five minutes and achieved nothing of note. If Puel wants to keep him then keep him by all means but if he doesn’t then Appleton shouldn’t be here.

That goes without saying, one would hope they are not been forced to work together.

The Echo journo has just told me that Allardyce is in Liverpool today, meeting the Everton bigwigs, moving towards an agreement for him to be appointed. Lee and Shakespeare ARE part of the package. Although there is a clause in his release from Palace of a payment of £2m compensation, if he moves to a new job before 1/1/18, the amount is a lot less than what Burnley will be demanding for Dyche. That is a factor.

Sammy Lee is no longer interested in returning to the North West, he's settled in London. So, if Allardyce is appointed, Shakespeare will be Assistant Manager. The Everton Board are now deciding whether to go with Big Sam, or stick with Unsworth. A decision will be made this week.

Why don't they go the whole hog and get Shakespeare and NP to go with Walsh? That having been said I don't think they're all that impressed with Walsh at the moment.

But it was the way we played against the crap teams which was most concerning.

We played fine against Brighton when James was available.

I felt the downturn in form came when we had to replace James with King.

F.E.A.R.  It had taken hold of him. He had to win  at the back end of last season. New season and the FEAR took hold. Not enough experience to find his way past it. Also too close to the players. Had to go.

If this happens I would be very happy for Craig Shakespeare.

When I was reading it I thought the same. He deserves a good job as assistant. He and Sam will sort out Everton as it sounds like they need someone with good man management skills to get the players back on side, and Shakey is definitely that man. He'll also be working with an old friend as well in Walsh. I have nothing but respect for Shakey.

All they need now is Pearson to come in next season and the dream team is back in business!
