[OFFICIAL] Claude Puel is the new manager for Leicester City

I wouldn't be happy. The guy is a walking "dressing room disaster".

Back in the 70's we bought players who were " problems" - Weller, Worthington -. That made them cheaper. That worked.
Go for the loan- so what is this risk?

Hopefully Puel can get the best out of Riyad. Speaks French and a proven track record with flair players (Hazard and Ben Arfa)!!

I reckon Puel will be shrewd enough to recognise that an in form Mahrez will literally pull us up the table.

This is not what I read from Southampton fans. What have I missed?

Looks very much like us in 'that' season, decisive pass to an inform striker/goal scorer then bang, goal!

In my support for our new top boy, I’ve changed my profile picture :) he looks like a roaring French lion. an accountant with tourettes.

Just my opinion, but judging by a lot of posts on here it's quite a popular opinion. Time will tell and I will take no satisfaction if my opinion of it being a dreadful decision turns out to be correct. Either that or my opinion is just dreadful.lol

everyones entitled to their opinion. But as we are all Leicester fans I dunno I just thought we'd all try and get behind the next manager and give him a chance

He likes football - it’s his life tbh. He watches live matches on tv like most of us do

arsenal, yanited, Liverpool and West Brom were all televised live in France so he would likely watch them whatever

Then Swansea at the weekend knowing he was probably getting the gig

No need for over analysis I’m afraid

Why are you afraid?.....

Having had a couple days top think of it, perhaps the stories of Puel's stubborn and arrogant side could actually have it's benefits if true. Surely a man that stubborn and pragmatic wouldn't stand a minute with the shite we have in terms of recruitment and will put his foot down to make sure things change?

are people forgetting that outside the big 6, we have the best keeper, english CB and fire power!

the team has a former player of the year, a former 24 goals a season striker, a pretty good second and third striker and the big spaniard!

I've refrained so far from offering an opinion on this appointment.  It is fair to say that Puel wasn't my first choice but he is here now.

I have some concerns about Southampton's goal scoring record with him, but actually, in the premier league last season, they scored 3 or more goals seven times.  When we won the title we score 3 or more 10 times.  We have better attacking options so there is no reason why we will have such a drought as they had towards the end of last season.

When I put his appointment in context of the long term ambitions of the club, the appointment actually makes sense.  There is no reason why over these next three seasons he can't consolidate us as a solid top half team and absolutely no reason why we can't flirt with European competition.

Some of our key players have peaked or will do soon.  Over the next three years, Vardy, Okazaki, Morgan, Huth, Simpson and Fuchs will all need replacing and I would expect Kasper and Mahrez to leave at some point too, so a degree of rebuilding will be needed.  A manager that can nurture and develop youth talent is a strong positive.

I am optimistic about the future and see Puel as someone who can build a solid foundation for pushing on in a few years either with him or someone else.

Realistically we have over-achieved over the last couple of years and whilst on our day we are still capable of beating anyone, us fans should progress with a sense of realism.  I see a bright future and am 100% behind the players, manager, owners and the club.

Our squad is good enough for a midtable finish with someone in charge with an ounce of tactical ability, but they still need motivating. I think we've lacked that for 18 months or more now, somewhat understandable considering what we did. But I felt like we needed someone they could all get behind and inspire them a bit... can this fella do that? Will he be given long enough to ship out the players who can't snap themselves out of it?

I don't know, I think the relationship with his no. 2 and no.3 are key.

He’s a poor communicator. He’s rambling and incoherent. I don’t think language is the problem, I think he would be rambling and incoherent in French.

I mean, what was the mumblings about the “establish an identity”? What the fcuk is he talking about??!

You could say that Ranieri was rambling and incoherent, but he had a passion and a self-confidence that trancended his words and inspired the players and the fans. That’s just not going to happen with this little fella. You wouldn’t buy Contents insurance from him, let alone let him run the team that you love.

There’s no getting away from the fact that this is a completely uninspiring appointment for the fans. He has no apparent Leadership skills and little natural authority.

However, you could probably level similar criticisms at Arsen Wenger – but there’s not too many Premiership bosses who can get away with being wallflowers.

His skills will lay behind the scenes. Taking Southampton to 8th was no ‘under-acheivement. And he’s won Ligue One and been to the CL semi-finals.

His composure will hopefully see more balanced team selections. He won’t rush players like Nacho into the first team before he’s ready, and I would hope they’ll be less panicky substitutions that we’ve seen this season. He might have an ability to recognise greatness in a player that others have missed, a la Ben Arfa.

If he can survive this season then he might do well.

Having Appleton as his number two might work well. Appleton has all the attributes of presense, passion and authority that little Claude lacks. Between them, they might form a good partnership:

Petit Claude the the Big Apple. There’s your identity for you, Claude. Let’s hope if proves… fruitful…

very happy that big mike is still here. he seems like a strong character and can actually connect with the english players.
for me, there are some rotten apples and big egos in the squad, and they are making factions inside the team.

i love the fact that peul is known to not be a softy, he can pick out the bad apples and send them away.

the quastion is like you said, will those players let him work in peace? i truly think that there are players with too much power in the club right now, and if selling them would be for the best of the club, then sell them.

I feel a bit more concerned than I did after watching his contributions to that Thursday Night Live stuff. Fair play to him for doing it, but as a Saints fan suggested, he does answer straightforward questions by speaking for 2 minutes without actually saying anything. He takes about a week to get a sentence out and is so softly spoken you can barely hear him. I can't see that kind of thing going down well with our players at all.

I don't know what John Collins is like as a coach, but I could see what Puel wanted to get him in. Presumably he speaks some french after working in France and Belgium, he also comes across as a strong character, seems a good talker and someone the players would probably respect. Be interesting to see what the full team of coaches are in the coming weeks.

I agree, but it's harsh to judge as the man you see in front of the camera's isn't always the person you see off camera.

He's definitely going to need a good, supportive coaching staff around him to make up for all his natural shortcomings. His half-time team talks are going to send the players to sleep; but hopefully Appleton will be around to slap them about a bit.

I think the rest of the season is going to be difficult. We should have enough to survive, but it feels like we'll be doing in in spite of Puel, rather than because of him.

If he survives into next season then he might be able to build a successful team in his own image... but, don't we already have a successful team?!!

The more I think about this, the worse it gets. To be fair though: All our managerial appointments to date (even caretakers) have been unqualified successes: Pearson, Ranieri, Shakepeare, Appleton.

Just got to trust the owners I guess.
