foxoffderby Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 Beginning to come to terms with CP as manager. His record is quite impressive. The other candidates weren't really great. I think we made a bit of a rod for our backs in terms of sacking mangers which hasn't helped with recruitment. Who really wants a job here when you can be sacked after a 6 months in charge? I'm not fussed about him playing not great football as long as we get a result. I hope at some point he plays 3 at the back which is one of his favoured systems. Some of our players need a kick up the backside and need to stop telling the management team which system we should be playing. Look forward to seeing who he brings in January with his contacts in France. LCFC its never dull is it?

That's the point of the post. We SHOULD be more attractive. We aren't. You need to read carefully. Do you have billions of dollars to invest, years of winning silverware and world-class players? You need to be reasonable, if you are looking for money-football then you are better off supporting the likes of PSG, Chelsea or Man City.
urban.spaceman Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 Had a few hours to mull it over and have decided to remain positive. Did well to finish 8th at Southampton with inferior clientele, and was unlucky to be beaten in the League Cup Final if I recall correctly. He has a decent record in France and has inherited a group of players here that are capable of incredible things. Hopefully he'll keep it simple for the next few months before making any changes. Up the City!
Strokes Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 He only had one season at Southampton, its a bit harsh to judge his style of play based on that, with only two transfer windows to implement your philosophy. His record in France is excellent and he was far from a disaster at Southampton, so i really dont understand the negativity.
Sionnach gorm Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 He’s a good manager. This doesn’t inherently guarantee success, but it does mean that we have a good chance of improving. His tactics are good, his work ethic is excellent and he knows how to read other teams (a fact proven since he’s beaten teams with better players). I’m not sure who else was available and interested that is better than him, barring Koeman and Pellegrini; and that’s an arguable difference. I’m rather pleased with him. He’ll keep us up at worse.

Merely that we should be a position to attract better managers and we've been woefully misdirected. Stop putting words in my mouth. Do not presume to know what I want or do not want. It's not my fault you have poor comprehension skills.
Jacafox Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 As a season ticket holder, he will get my support on Sunday and beyond, underwhelming as he may seem I think he is a safe pair of hands looking at his history. We have potentially a top 8 squad, as long as he gels with the players and gets his ideas across to them via Appleton it may be a successful signing. I pleased Appleton is the No2 still. Imo we have a better squad for him to work with. Let's all give him a chance.
Chester Dontlie Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 Let's face it, we couldn't get anyone 'exciting' because we're obviously not as exciting workplace for the managers as we were after winning the title. Tuchel, Mancini etc (even Allardyce!) rejected us. Get in Claude sort this mess out and lift us up. He can't do worse than we've been last season under CR or recently under Shakes, surely? Let's get behind him and reserve the judgement until he shows what he can do with this squad. Now, do we get the Ploncquer guy as a bonus
MC Prussian Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 French football fans on the L'Equipe page wish Puel well at Leicester, there's only a few who criticize his management style ("too rigid, not very close with players"). https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Claude-puel-nouvel-entraineur-de-leicester/845255 Many can see Hatem Ben Arfa thrown into the mix comes January...
winteriscoming Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 Looks like puel wanted john Collins as assistant.

My friend who's a big Nice fan told me he liked him as a coach, but he is sometimes stubborn. If you speak French, this is what he said:

Mahrez is a better version than Ben Arfa.
Kendal Fox Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 Trying to keep an open mind and I can only urge everyone to at least herald some optimism and give him a chance because it's done and he's all we have. The fact is that nobody exciting wants to come to us - Ignore the anti-Leicester brigade with their "Who do Leicester think they are??!.. They brought this on themselves...", just cast your minds back to when we won the PL and no decent players wanted to come to us then either. Thinking about it, I don't see why Puel could be any less effective than Ranieri was in his first season with us. Also, regardless of being sacked by Southampton, he hardly failed in his first foray into PL management...
ARM1968 Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 Right, as I’m now living in Wales, has anyone said this yet? just hope he doesn’t Puel the wool over our eyes. Or Puel our pants down. Combine those two and you’ve got a pretty good appreciation of Welsh farming life.
Wymsey Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 He seems like someone who would command respect, but appears someone who doesn't have the charisma that Ranieri, had that made the latter's own success here initially easier by getting along with players in the team and striving them on.
Phube Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 After much thought I am happy with this appointment! (Just posting so I can quote myself back if he does a 'Ranieri'!)
sdb Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 Southampton dominated us twice last season. In fact, I can't remember many teams so much better than us over the two games. That's a plus!

whoareyaaa Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 Tattically I think he will be better than Claudio and Shakey so that can only be a good thing, also think he won't continue with the old guard and will make the changes required to see improve like we have over the previous two games
azzathehack Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 "It's harsh to judge Puel on the football played at Southampton" @LaurensJulien says new #LCFC had planned for a more 'expansive' style:
daddylonglegs Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 The image I have of those who are anti Puel before weve even kicked a ball under his leadership are blokes who think we should be playing a 3-1-6 because it worked on FIFA for them
itsblueupnorth Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 Give the bloke a chance - I can guarantee if we beat Everton everyone will be saying what a great appointment

I honestly can't remember a poorer performance from city than the match away at S'hampton last season in the past 5 years ( or possibly the away at Barnsley ). S'hampton were coming at it without a win in quite a few and I think had hardly even scored a goal in that run. For a period they looked like scoring every time they got the ball and we were all over the place. This from a side happy to concede possession and sit deep.
