[OFFICIAL] Claude Puel is the new manager for Leicester City

Seems a totally bizarre & rushed appointment to me but we must trust the owners judgement and back the new manager & team 100%.

From what I've been told he was the number one target all along.

He's raved about in France, has a track record of building teams & develops youth talent. He clearly impressed in the interview with his vision and plans for the future so hopefully the owners have made a good call.

A close friend of mine who is part of the Southampton setup speaks very highly of him & said he shouldn't be judged on his time there. He was up against it due to their best players being sold & the replacements not being his own signings. His training methods & tactical knowledge are apparently superb

The media have seriously got a problem with Leicester. Not even saying it in a "oooo sympathise with us" way, I genuinely think a lot of them have something against us. Whether it's because we put the English game's noses out of joint I've no idea.

The media, both sport and non sporting related are generally a bag of dicks, manipulative and deceitful dicks at that.

From his Wikipedia page:

Sports journalist Paul Doyle called Puel "a victim of Southampton’s admirably unreasonable expectations"

Personally I would be very happy with finishing 8th and the final of the league cup.

But if there are unreasonable expectations at Southampton, what are they like at Leicester?

A good appointment I think - someone who knows football and how to manage a football club - shame we made the error of all time by appointing Shakey in the summer - he would have made a great number 2 to this fella........

You tell it how it is Sheps! :o

If he wipes the slate clean and picks players on their efforts in training/current form and not on past achievements.

If he has a Plan B when the going gets tough and is prepared to try different formations and use substitutes more effectively

If he bans 'hoof and hope' football

If he stands up to Rudkin

If he keeps us clear of the bottom 3 by a comfortable margin

I am more than happy to give him a chance.  Welcome Claude

Ha I know that sounds bad, reading back it is a little harsh, but they’re just generally so biased and things, politically, sporting, every subject that sells papers etc

We generally say that publically but if true privately then perhaps he was  high up on the list of people to interview and see what he could bring to the club in detail. I wonder if vichai likely being in Thailand for the kings funeral has delayed things a litltle. Mind you, only a week since shakey went so that's fairly speedy in an LCFC world!

surely we would have sounded out other managers as to their availability. Are we saying that we wouldn't have been interested in Rafa?

If he is who they want and has interviewed (twice) so well, then I don't see its rushed. If it's right then just do it!

As a lifelong supporter I am somewhat surprised and underwhelmed by this appointment. Another manager, another 3 year contract I wonder if this one will be seen out?!!

Having slept on it I still don’t really know how I feel about this appointment.... underwhelmed? ... but then considering what he did with an average Southampton side! .... get a win against the Toffees and I’m sure all will be calm and smiles again?!

When I was a kid, my old man would say..."It's neither arsehole nor watercress" and has always been a mystery what he meant. I kind of get it now.

Hope this goes well ...underwhelmed though.

My mother used to say that a lot  :D

I have just found some very compelling evidence as to why we should be positive....

I think we can all agree after seeing that image that we are in safe, wonderfully haired hands.  Close thread.  All is well. X

For what it's worth:

1. I no longer live in France, but I'm still in touch with a guy who was/is a Nice supporter, and he reckons Puel did OK for them before he joined Southampton, athough he didn't win anything, and he much prefers their current boss, Lucien Favre (who Everton considered before they got in Koeman).

2. I have a good mate who is a lifelong Saints fan, who said this: "As for Puel, depends what you want. He will stabilise you and you will be comfortable mid table. But, and it's a big but, you will play very boring sideways possession footy. Yes we got to a final, and finished 8th but that papered over the cracks. We were miles behind 7th, and crucially miles behind our previous points and goals tallies. He's a decent guy, but his footy is as boring as his Press conferences. All that said, we've changed to get more exciting footy and tbh we're playing the same if not worse footy this year! Who'd be a fan eh????"

Take your choice. I still feel it was wrong to sack Shakespeare, but WTF do I know.

Quite.

How dare those Soton fans expect and demand entertainment for their hard earned money. Why don’t they know their place? Why don’t they accept whatever crumbs are thrown in their direction by their betters?

And how dare Leicester fans not be overjoyed with a man renowned for and synonymous with negative defensive tactics. Know your place as well. Scum. Subhuman scum.

Our owners are businessmen.  They have invested a lot in the club and look like they are in it for the long term.  They want the best return on their investment that they can get and that means playing in the PL each season.  They may well have seen CP as a safe pair of hands having viewed his track record.  He is young enough to still want to achieve in his career.  I doubt that the views of the fans played a part in their selection process.

He isn't a high profile manager but there are plenty of those out there that have been sacked for poor performances so I for one don't care about that.  All I care about is the success of our club and if he is the man than turns us into a solid PL outfit upon which we can build, then I'll be happy.

Could have been a lot better, could have been a lot worse. Good luck to Claude, hope he does really well.

Just hope he has the good sense to play to our strengths (I'm sure he does). From what I've read it seems he's quite defensive with a preference for patient, possession-based football.......we're not very good at any of those things.

It'll be interesting whatever happens. He's clearly very highly-regarded in France I just fear it might go a bit 'Claudio' if he tries to change too much, too soon.

I do find it weird that we gave both him and Shakey 3 year deals. Not as if either was in massive demand was it lol

This stuff about him being boring seems such an overreaction to me but we'll see. And I keep saying it but we were shite and boring anyway!

Clearly:..

you believe, we are an automatically Written in top 6 side, if we had chosen anybody else than Puel...? !!

Upto 3 yrs ago, we shown disdain on this forum, towards other clubs forums, and fans writing how

Pathetic it was, for them to automatically believe that their own club,(Whoever) had a 'right'+ to higher expectations,

the destiny was theirs, they are a big club simply because...because they are!!.

and their downright arrogance in believing they are something extra special...Etc etc etc..

It seems that virus has taken hold, within this once crazy , weird but honest, humble forum.....

No, I believe mid tabel finishes is exactly what this club needs for a couple of seasons. The question is............do the players

A dreadful decision by the owners, just dreadful.

Just don't understand this attitude. How can something be a dreadful decision when you have literally no evidence it is a) a dreadful decision and b) will be a dreadful decision?

So good to hear that Col and Webbo. My old man was from Desborough....in-between Mkt Harborough and Kettering,

He also use to say "it's a poor arse that never rejoices" after a fart if anyone heard him :-)
