[OFFICIAL] Claude Puel is the new manager for Leicester City

It's a pretty underwhelming appointment. Won't be surprised if someone else is in charge before the end of the season. I can't see this working out well, but I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt.

If we end up playing boring, sideways football, then we'll be heading for the Championship. That's us at our absolute worst. I can only see us succeeding If he has us playing to our strengths. I highly doubt there'll be time to make us a decent passing side before the threat of relegation is too much.

Good luck, Claude.

I have just found some very compelling evidence as to why we should be positive....

I think we can all agree after seeing that image that we are in safe, wonderfully haired hands.  Close thread.  All is well. X

Oh shit the bed, that’s horrific

we can’t possibly trust a man who used to have a mullet hair cut

sack him now City, save our souls

There is no blueprint for hiring a manager.

Everton fans were over the moon with Koeman, Newcastle fans were convinced Alan Shearer was their saviour.

Whist we (and everyone else) turned our nose up at Claudio.

Whilst I will admit he wasn't my first choice (or second, or third etc) he still might be an unbelievable manager for us, or he could be a complete disaster only time will tell.

But now is not the time for pathetic moaning and bitching now is the time to get behind the bloke like proper fans.

Gary Megson is an underwhelming appointment.

A suave French bloke with decent experience and great hair is great especially for a club of our size. Let's get behind him ffs

Now we've got Puel, I expect us to;

- win as many as we lose

- stay up

- be competetive in the cup comps

honestly, I'm quite optimistic about it. Let's face it, if we start to play 'defensive' then that could just be a good version of our counter attacking style which we try to play now, i.e. Conceding less goals.

This thread has shades of the Ranieri thread when we appointed him....

It could be a total disaster, we could finish 6th. We don't know so why bother with the slating until we've at least seen what he offers, we're not Southampton and we're in a totally different situation to them when he took over.

Just seen the viewers poll on skysports "is Puell a good appoinment for Leicester?" 75% say "no", but graham souness strongly disagrees. his view: when Puell arrived at Southampton , the club sold Pella and Mane, was it the managers fault they struggled to score? Souness reckons Puell will do ok with us.

I do find it weird that we gave both him and Shakey 3 year deals. Not as if either was in massive demand was it lol

Considering we gave a 2 year contract to Leo and a 4 year contract to an unproven James (since his injury) it shouldn't come as a massive shock haha.

No big name manager has ever been eager to join us bar Sven, and that went well didn't it?

We hadn't won the league before ; managed right we would've been a much more attractive prospect.

You're an intelligent man. Surely you can see that, whilst he's a reasonable manager, 18 months after a title win we SHOULD be more attractive.

Don't be myopic. It's okay to accept this appointment but realise it isn't the step forward we should have, this isn't a coup or some inspired move. It's the managerial equivalent of a chocolate digestive.

Give me one name bigger than Claude Puel. Don't say Ranieri coz when Ranieri joined, his career was in shambles having been sacked by Greece after losing to Faroe Islands

One bigger name? Mourinho.

I presume you mean one bigger that would join us. I can't. That's the point of the post. We SHOULD be more attractive. We aren't. You need to read carefully.

You're entitled to that final opinion, of course. The fact remains, winning the league is regarded as some sort of anomaly, and no big name will want to risk getting feet of clay by failing to follow up the 5000/1 miracle.

So... Does this mean the idea of the season ticket holders managing the team has completely been shot down or...?

Of course it was a miracle. Even so, with better directorship we would be more attractive. Who is going to want to take over a club that binned CR and demonstrated ruthlessness in also binning CS. We are reaping what we've sown - a less attractive application pool.

On a side note - is this the first hattrick of forest initials we've had. CR CS CP

Ah ok - if you are arguing that the club needs better direction, I can agree with that easily.

A big part of Southampton playing 'sideways football' was down to their squad, or lack of it

When he's managed other clubs he's played counter attacking football, they just didn't have the players to do it at Southampton so had to play more defensive

The 8th placed finish with saints is a bit of a red herring isn't it? Finished 2 points ahead of us and we were garbage for most of the season.
