Muzzy_no7 Posted 7 November 2017 Posted 7 November 2017 You could probably consider anything over 31,500ish a sell out really with the segregation, single seats left and ST holders not turning up. Im 99% sure if we expanded to 38-40K we would still sell out. 3
jmono84 Posted 7 November 2017 Posted 7 November 2017 I think there’s lots of fans that are fed up of getting say 2 ticks together so don’t even try anymore... I’m sure the stadium was over 95% full the past two seasons and will be again this season... we defo need to expand
Muzzy_no7 Posted 7 November 2017 Posted 7 November 2017 100%. Anyone against expansion is wrong in my eyes. Now is the time to capitalise.
Gerard Posted 7 November 2017 Posted 7 November 2017 A couple of hundred seats available against West Brom on a televised Monday night match isn't a reason the bin the expansion plans. If we had the availability I'm sure we'd easily get another 5,000-10,000 ST holders. A lot of the reasons people don't go is it's hard to get tickets and they just get used to not going. If we never expand we'll always be one of those clubs that spend their existence bouncing between the Premier League and the Championship. 2

Exactly, expansion isn't just about serving the extra people that want to come, but also giving the club room to grow. If you get an extra 8000 for just the big games, some of those people convert into going every week. 3
Muzzy_no7 Posted 7 November 2017 Posted 7 November 2017 Now unless there's some kind of problem with the power building next door to the KP I think the club is looking at a new stadium. This would explain the delay. Would love someone to interview the board/owners.

foxinsocks Posted 7 November 2017 Posted 7 November 2017 The club earned about 180mil last year... from mem. Tv money dwarfs ticket rev. The money from matchday doesnt add much.... eg. 20 home games of 30000 at a mean price of £20 is about £12million a season. If we had another 15000 full seats it would only add £6million per year Imo i doubt there is demand for much above 40000 seats so i doubt a new stadiium is worthwhile. . I think adding 10000 seats is marginal

I think adding 10000 seats is marginal I definitely see your point but you must also consider that if we increase the stadium capacity then the following will increase, matchday merchandise, food and beverages, hospitality etc... . additionally to the above, we become more attractive to sponsors due to the additional capacity and also potentially having more corporate suites/boxes. 1

Ive got no idea what the plan is in that regard but I know that the ex-national grid building is in the hands of a wealthy organisation who 'help convert' old gas works and then sell them on for profit. So it would seem possible that King Power Holdings (another off-shore company) will purchase said building.

Didn't know about that rumour sorry. But heard somewhere that the space of land (still now a car park) where the car park used to be in front of the old ground was considered for the fans' village, but the idea was quickly rebuffed over concerns over lack of nearby parking fscilities on matchdays. But I personally don't believe the club should consider moving. The stadium is in good condition and has good scope to expand (some say there'd be enough space to increase any of the stands). But thought that there was some form of plan in place, regarding the empty land behind the East Stand, for some food retail outlets to be put there? I don't think that's possible due to the covenant on the land restricting it to be solely used for sporting and recreational purposes. Whilst the club pursued the hope of building a new stadium on Bede Island, Morrisons had first option on the Freeman's Wharf site. However, permission for a supermarket was refused despite an appeal that ultimately ended in the House of Lords. That's my recollection. 1

There is no need for ground expansion. The cup matches provide all of the evidence that a capacity increase is needed as several thousand always replace the Premier League regulars. We have a reserve fan base that gets in when they can.
Cincinnati Fox Posted 7 November 2017 Posted 7 November 2017 We used to get 19-21k in the Premiership at Filbert street and when the KP was built we got 30k overnight i think the same would have with an expansion, we could have 30k ST holders no trouble and sell another 8-10k per game easily. 1
dsr-burnley Posted 11 November 2017 Posted 11 November 2017 Leicestershire has a huge population and you don't have any other league clubs to share it with, do you? Huge potential. Given megarich owners, there's no reason why you shouldn't try and be a lot bigger. Out of interest, what do you get in a training ground for £60m? Burnley's new one cost £11m and is considered to be pretty good. (Certainly better than what we had before!!) Admittedly, we already owned the land, but what else do you get for the extra £49m?
