Calling....Huth and Dragovic

Whilst there is no denying he had a pretty poor game today he has so far on the whole been one of our better players this season . Yes he has made a few mistakes but he is certainly no bomb scare or liability and has been our best  defender in some games .

Ball watching for the first goal

You are trying to blame Morgan for both Fuchs and Maguire being out of position?

All 3 were at fault, but Morgan ball watched and didn’t cover

Sorry but I'm not having that, his positioning was fine. He's the right centre back, the whole left hand side of his defence going missing and leaving a giant hole is not his fault.

Maguire stepping up and the ball knocked through happened in a second, no way he can cover that unless he's got a crystal ball.

Fuchs - poo

Maguire - needs work

Game was over when we replaced Iborra with King though I'm afraid. Dont like to bang on about King too much these days as I know it upsets the sensitive folk on here but when Iborra was on the pitch we were playing nice football, we were calm and collected. King comes in and we panic and lump everything and look like a different team.

Seriously? Fuchs ignored his winger and and pushed forward onto their full back, Maguire steps forward to close out, ball past him finds Fuchs man with Fuchs off in No man's land, and its wes' fault that we concede lol absolutely ridiculous post. The first goal is because of Fuchs first and then Maguire not compensating for Fuchs mistake.

That combination were responsible for both goals - look at the second, Crouch peels off Maguire onto Fuchs, then two steps and he's lost Fuchs and has an unchallenged header.

Maguire shouldn't come out for the first goal but the whole defence should shuffle across to stay compact. Wes doesn't have anyone to mark - players make errors and it's up to the others to cover these.  Not their fault if they don't but we hope they do. Similarly, for their second, Maguire doesn't block off crouch's run and fuchs can't stay with him - the potential backstop of AK on the front post dropping onto the line also doesn't occur as he thinks he can clear the corner with his head.  All players make mistakes but it's a team game and they train to cover these eventualities. we failed twice yesterday but there were also plenty of occasions where we didn't. those don't tend to get noticed!

You mad? What the **** was Morgan going to do when his left side was none existent? Maguire was massively a fault for diving in.... he was drawn to the man who simply flicked it round him. Maguire is the weak link at the back, when asked to defend, like most players like him he can’t do it...... he’s been around for a while and no one has really taken the gamble on him yet, why didn’t an Everton, or a Tottenham take a chance? Long term he will cost us more than he saves, and I just hope Puel sees this before long and either brings Huth back in when fit, or give Dragovic a go.

Maguire hasn't been at the races in recent games with his positioning decision making or distribution...A bit of Liam Moore about him as switches off at times.

1 on 1 with Moting 1st half, he got wrong footed very easily showing his lack of mobility..

He needs time as he is a different kind of centre back than we are used to having but the mistakes need to be cut out.

Stupid thread of the weekend.

Sums up the knee jerk reactions of some on this board

Both fullbacks are playing further up, which is a problem for Fuchs because he hasn't got the pace to get back into position. To compound this Maguire has a habit of wondering off into midfield, leaving our left side wide open. Puel will definitely need to look at that.

Huth and Morgan had their vintage year in 2015/16 with pure, no nonsense, defending. Both are now ageing and we will have to integrate younger players and, because our style of play will ultimately have to become more sustainable as well, they are likely to be players who are more comfortable on the ball.

For me Maguire has all the attributes to be a great player for us and he has the experience of Huth and Morgan to learn the basics from. He will make a few mistakes along the way, but we have to be patient in the short term.

Whether it was King or Amartey coming on, the same would have happened.

How is it King's fault that the whole team panics and we start lumping everything? Same would have happened with Amartey so while I know King's stock is decreasing on here, the way the game ended up isn't a stick to beat him with.

can totally understand the effect Iborra has on games as he's bang in form and I love the way he is so calm and composed in that midfield, especially against the slightly more erratic Ndidi in comparison.

er cover it

How? A logical explanation considering he was already marking someone... Maguire moves out of position getting sucked in like a school boy, and Fuchs was in Narnia allowing Frodo baggins green grass to run into.... and fire beyond Kasper... Maguire and Fuchs were to blame for the first goal, not Morgan.... Morgan has been pretty solid in all honesty, and it currently bailing Maguire our most games. To suggest he could cover that goal is absolute nonsense... no chance at all.

Maguire is terrific and very talented but he is definitely leaky when it comes  to goals. His play at CB has clearly hurt our ability to defend. He seems to struggle with consistency. He loses his focus, or he makes a poor decision, and goals happen. If he doesn't rush to close the player on ball yesterday, that first goal becomes much more unlikely. He lost his focus, he lost track of what was going on around him, and he cost us a goal. Or how he got caught daydreaming at Huddersfield and conceded. He's definitely cost us a good number of goals with preventable mistakes, idk if it is 7, but it might be.

Dragovic has looked very consistent to us so far. I would like to see him get a few starts at CB in the Prem. MC is probably not the game he starts, obviously, but it is not crazy to sit Maguire down a game or two and have him watch the game in real-time with an assistant coach as they walk through how they want the CBs to play in different situations.

Again, nobody wants Maguire out for a long stretch, but he's hardly an elite defender at this point in his career. Giving Dragovic an opportunity to start and show what he can do in the Prem makes some sense. If it is simply unbearable to Puel that Maguire sit for a game or two, play him at RB, it is a good fit for his skills.

Maguire is still learning, made a mistake.

Fuchs on the other hand has been woeful all season and if Chilwell is fit after international break he should start

Amartey might of made the headed clearance that King made a hash of leading to Crouch 's goal.. Iborra would have definitely headed that clear.

'might'.

To blame King for that is silly though. He wasn't the main one to blame there.

Amartey (having played CB for his Country) would have had a much better chance of making that vital clearance than King.. You can't argue with that logic..

Or can you?
