Managed to get £20 on at 21/10 just after seeing the team news. Happy with £62 including stake but wish I'd put more on!

We've used at least 35 million of premier league talent to beat a league one team in a tournament aimed to help lower league teams. I can't decide if it's saddening or hilarious.

The idea was clearly to get match fitness to fringe players ahead of the Christmas schedule.

The club's needs should always come first.

Don't disagree but not in the spirit and certainly doesn't encourage the development lads who have featured in all games. (move aside now and let the big boys take over?)

I'm sure if the boot was on the other foot?

Nacho aside, the expensive 'fringe' players featured in this game are someway down the queue of players hoping to make the first team.

Embarrassing.

Personal opinion but I also believe the likes of Hamza, Hughes and Thomas will improve more playing with experienced pros than they will with other development players. Might not be popular but they will learn more from being on the same pitch as Dragovic and Ulloa.

Each Invited Club must ensure that in each Match at least 6 of the starting eleven players named on the Team Sheet are players who were aged under 21 as at the 30th June in the year in which the Season concerned commenced.

Whilst we were not breaking any rule its clear the tournament was created for younger players development.

Agree with that to an extent.

Under Claudio the first team players refused to play in U21 games as the reflected badly on them!  FACT

The U21s play with and against the first team all week.

Have issues with Hamer, Benny and sadly Ullua playing as clearly no chance of first team football

We know what Hamer is capable of and is out of contrart at the end of the season and not worth the 15K pw so will go,

Is Jakupovic really that bad?

Definitely questions to be asked here. Ulloa is the one that really grates on me, all that bullshit about never playing for the club again as Claudio wasn't playing him and then blocked him from moving on for first team action. Lo and behold he's signed a new contract on improved terms and is seemingly happy as Larry picking up his wage for doing sod all. I do hope Claude will put his foot down and streamline the squad in January. Even if we have to sacrifice decent fees for Hamer and Benny, shift them off the wage bill. I stick by my point that they will help the younger players, but that isn't enough to justify £20/30/40k per week wages.

I got a text from a friend yesterday afternoon informing me that there may be a significant number of first-teamers in the squad for the game. I then put us (at 6/1!!!) in to an accumulator with Man Utd, Barcelona and Shrewsbury (I thought these were all bankers at the time) and ended up winning £1,500.00

MERRY BLOODY CHRISTMAS (This was complete luck and I am very smug hence me posting for the first time in months )

Yeah, I mean, it's clever but I can't help but feel a little sorry for teams treating it as a lower league competition rather than an intensive training session for millionaires.

Match highlights for those interested in seeing a League One side with many changes play a Leicester City U23 side with 6 over age players, 2 Premier League winners, £45m worth of talent which is more expensive than the side that won the Premier League, and a hilarious moment in which Yohan Benalouane shows us exactly why he's gone from the Checkatrade Trophy to the Champions League quarter-final and back again in under a year. I'll le you decide which one.

Claudio completely ignored the academy, which was awful. Shakey and Puel were both keen on the academy, attending U23 games when they could, which is good.

The U23s current ridiculous form seemed to originate from when Shakey threw half the first team in against West Ham in the U23 league. I think that was really beneficial for the kids to continue doing that in the U23 league when match fitness is needed. Doing it in this cup though seems a little uncomfortable, although to be fair Scunthorpe's reserves would have won comfortably last night if not for the woodwork x2 and a few top class saves from Hamer.

Hamer sounded like MOTM last night and he's impressed me every time I've seen him this season (preseason, cup and U23s). I have no qualms if we were to extend his contract if he is happy to stay as second choice keeper and banter master. I wouldn't mind not seeing Benny, Ulloa and Musa again.
