... We're all guilty of it, but I felt in the summer especially there was a lot of 'oh god, why didn't we sign him, how have we lost out to them!!'

Three which stick in my mind; (feel free to add anymore that have flopped!)

Kevin Wimmer

Kurt Zouma

Grzegorz Krychowiak

Wimmer and Zouma have somehow made Stokes defence worse....

Grzegorz Krychowiak is on the verge of being sent back to PSG and loaned to Getafe...

Something to bare in mind for this window for sure, as we'll probably miss out on someone that seems like 'a great signing' or 'an ideal loan' it doesn't always work out that way.....

It works the other way too, plenty of fans couldn't believe we'd got Iheanacho...

Zouma has looked quite good in the games I’ve seen but can’t say I take much notice of Stoke tbh

Michael Keane stands out as well.

Very happy with Maguire over him!

Yes definitely. Surprised to see people not that impressed with Maguire still

I think as much as I agree he's the best of a bad back line, he's got to shoulder some responsibility for shipping 47 (FORTY SEVEN!!) goals already this season.

To put that into some perspective, teams that finish between 10th and 14th don't usually concede that many in an entire season. lol

lol yeah that’s pretty damning. Think he’s a good player still but maybe not for a top 4 team

Even Sigurdsson isn't yet tearing up trees, but I do think this signing for Everton will come good

I’m so glad we didn’t fork out that money for him. Wouldn’t suit our style in the slightest

To be fair we dont know how they would fare in our team. Maguire look good for us but he might have looked terrible in the Everton or Stoke team.

Sigurdsson was an awful buy.

Not because he's a bad player because he clearly isn't but Everton blew £45m on a player who we knew everything about. We know he's 28 and none of the top clubs were interested despite him playing in this league for the majority of his career. He's not even a sure starter for Everton and if they ever want to get rid they'll have to take a huge loss on him. He's just the player a club like Everton or Leicester don't need to buy.

I'd much rather us spend £45m on two young players from Europe or South America who have potential to be top club players.

Any defender in that Stoke team would look terrible, it isn't the players - the system is awful. I still rate Wimmer and Zouma.

Krychowiak was one I understood why we didn't go for because he wouldn't fit our system and we had Iborra already who plays a similar role. Silva is much more suited to us from what I've seen and heard, it's just a shame we're crap at admin and have missed out on him for 6 months.

Will wait and see with those two once Fraud Hughes finally gets the boot.

I'm convinced Wimmer is terrible though, i'm ready to be proven wrong with Zouma.

There is a certain bullshit bias we all have towards players (and managers) from "bigger clubs." We need to get over it. Former Chelsea, Spurs, and PSG players didn't look so great when taken out of those "bigger clubs." We need to stop giving validity to a player based on who he's been signed to as the players for sale to us rarely play for them. We need to look for ability only. Like OP said, look at the kid we bought from Man City. I'd rather we buy another Demarai-esque 19 year old that's been playing league football for 2 years than an academy kid with giant price tag and a handful of minutes for the senior squad. That's something we need to remember, especially when people get excited about out of favor players from the big 4.

Now that Aurier is getting games at Spurs the Kieran Trippier rumors are coming. And of course I've seen odds for Wheelchair and Walcott.

That bloke Aranguiz who has a tattoo that says: "please not Leicester."

He got injured at Leverkusen and we won the league.

Before we get too smug, I give you Mendy, Musa, Benny, Inler, Slim and the biggest let down of all, for me so far, Kelechi.

Bullets unfortunately not dodged.

I don’t think anyone takes too much notice of Stoke, the team or the City to be quite frank

I must admit I preferred Gibson and Keane over Maguire. Delighted to be proven wrong, wouldn't take either over Maguire any day.

Really not sure Maguire is better than Keane, He's had too many individual errors himself so far to declare that.

In reality you’re probably right but I wouldn’t want to swap them, would you?

I like Keane, a lot. I find that a difficult one to answer because I've seen a lot of Maguire this year and not huge amounts of Keane. We've only conceded two goals more though and Keane is ahead in most of his individual stats... although they can be misleading with defenders.

Maguire has a bit of X factor and he gets you off your seat, but I do think Keane might end up being better defensively.
