Talking of Bob is he due out soon. Lost track of the time but seems a few years now.

Must be due out soon. Has done 4 years out of a 7 year sentence & can imagine he won't have upset the applecart too much.

Doubt we'll ever get to sample his cobs again though.

I can't keep up with the goings on down at the King Dick. Did Everards sell it on after they did it all up?

Still an Everard's house I think mate, fairly sure it's always been owned by them regardless of the day to day running but I could be wrong.

Just a gaff that seems to have suffered from not knowing what it was when it reopened a few years back. Bit too restauranty for a casual pint, and food a bit pricey for what it was perceived to be (posh pub scran) - Wygstons House seemed to have the same vibe but nailed the middle ground better. Shame because it could and should be a sensational boozer, interior is lovely and the location couldn't be better - but I think the refurb put off a lot of casual wet punters, especially when the range was Everard's stuff that was overpriced.

Surprised Beautiful Pubs seemed to jack it in so quickly but given I had to take out a payday loan to buy a pint of Dublin's finest in the Knight and Garter I'm sure they're laughing.

I’ve been a few times to The King R  find it annoying when pubs of that size reserve tables so there is actually nowhere to sit even though the pub is virtually empty.

Also gets my back up when (this was in the distillery) I’m enjoying beers and food with my mates and the staff come over and put a reserved sign on the table, that really did annoy me, I pointed out that we were at the table and how can they possibly reserve it for someone else (those weren’t my exact words 😝)

That happened to us one day after we’d been to match. We refused to move. My mate was like how can you reserve a table someone is actually already sitting at?  Wasn’t like it was reserved from say 8pm and it was 6pm. It was about twenty mins away.  We all had pints. No way we was moving. It was a point of principle and the five of us stayed put. Whilst the arguments were on going one of the lads even got another round in so we’d literally got two pints each lol. A similar thing happened in the Rutland and Derby when we was in there as well. Although the girl did ask us how long we was intending to stay and the reserved sign wasn’t just popped down until she knew we were going to leave anyway before then so know problem.

100% agree. The clue is in the name, PUBLIC house.

Tables are for reserving at restaurants not pubs.

Also have experience of this - I was having a few beers in Soar Point one Sunday last year with 4 of my mates, we'd been in for most likely the best part of 3 hour watching some of the games on TV. Then we got asked to move as a group had apparently reserved the table to come in and watch a game - we were pissed off but moved anyway.

We ended up having to stand at the bar with pillars in the way of the screens, whilst a group of about 7 or 8 students came in, had about 4 cokes and 3 pints between them for the whole of one game and then disappeared. Why bother annoying customers who are clearly spending a lot more than these groups who reserve a table and then turn up and spend as little as possible?

We made a point not to go back in there because of it, I'm sure we won't be the first or last. Like the poster above says, save it for the restaurants!

Surely this system means someone can walk in a pub and see there’s no tables to sit.  Go next door and ring first pub and ask to book a table and even though it’s full the first pub pops a reserved sign on an already used table and half hour later the group who’ve booked it come in and in theory have just booted someone who was there before them off of a table. Makes no sense.

Duffy's and Firebug have both had support grants which the pubs are saying will help them get to the spring.

Great news. Hoping some cash comes the way of a few other decent boozers in town too. A lot will be impacted by this bollocks rule about serving food.

A lot of pubs maneuvered though the first lockdown keeping their heads above the chop by selling takeaway beer. Grim for them this has now been pulled by the government.

Small independent places might survive if they set up a website and operate it as an online shop but their staff are now likely done for.

It’s grim.

Retail and Hospitality are going to get battered. They have effectively been forced to close for four months plus  this year. :(

December is going to be tough anyway but if this isn’t eased on 2nd December it could be carnage.

I can see plenty of pubs closing where the landlord doesn’t actually live within the premises. Unlike the first lockdown they’ll be looking forward and thinking there’s no sight of normality returning and it would look like a case of throwing good money after bad to continue.  Maybe those who at least get to live at the premises might see a reason to hang in in there.  Must be horrendous to see a business you’ve worked hard with basically being killed through no fault of your own.

Fingers crossed that gets overturned or it's an oversight - gaffs will be on their arses if they can't sell takeaways. ****ing maddening.
