Player values have been distorted by the excessive sums paid for Neymar, Coutinho and Van Dijk but I think its misleading. I'd suggest that these sums were far in excess of real value and were paid because the clubs involved felt they had a need great enough to warrant the extravagance. Those transfers were all financed by the money from PSG for Neymar. We may need another extravagant transfer fee (maybe Ronaldo) to fund another round of big transfers for Mahrez to go for our reported £90M requirement to be met.

Which is allegedly 90 million, a figure that no-one will pay, so he'll be here for another 2 1/2 years and will walk away on a free.

So in other words, he's worth 90m.

To me, not as much as any of the team that turned up last night however bad they were.

They fulfilled their contracts and almost did the job they get well paid for.

Musa, Slimani, Ulloa and King also rate above him at the moment in my head

And as for Man City and Josep...................I'd get banned if I said what I think of them.

They've messed the head of of our most influential player and probably wrecked the changing room spirit.

What has to be considered when thinking about his price is, how much have we investested in him? Since signing his last contract he' walked away with 7.7 MILLION. Before that he probaby took about 1.5 MILLION on his first contract with us. Factor in the 400.000 we paid for him, signing on fees, bonuses etc and you'e probably talking around the 12 MILLION pound Mark.

So take that into consideration and think of Man City and their 50 MILLION + player offer and what they are really offering is 38 Million profit and a player who's wages, signing bonus etc will then eat into that profit..... Doesn' look like a great deal.

Riyad is worth around £80m in my opinion. I think if that is what we asked for then that is fair.

I do think the Coutinho transfer is a bit of a misnoma though and not a worthwhile comparison. While some might argue that it makes no difference that he's Brazilian and Riyad is Algerian I think it absolutely does. Barca have recognised Coutinho's marketability as much as his talent. Brazilian players are big news and he'll prove lucrative for them off the field in shirt sales and merchandise etc. Coutinho the player is never worth £140m but Coutinho the brand, the image of, is worth more if anything.

Whilst on the pitch there's not much difference in talent, football fans at large aren't that fussed about Algeria (whereas Brazilians still have that mystique) and so Riyad will never be as marketable and profitable as Coutinho hence why the figure is so much lower. What a player can deliver when he's actually on the pitch seems to be only one part of the equation these days.

I think you'd struggle to find a better winger than him for less than 100 million. In a team where he'd receive the ball higher up the pitch more often he could well be the most creative player in the league.

No, the club have set a value which is unrealistic in order to stop anyone buying him, so if no-ones going to buy him, how much would he sell for?

Until the end of his contract he should be priced at whatever the owners want.

I'd say in the current market he should be about £100m or just under.

He's worth anything from £60m to £110m to other teams.

To us - a player who does not want to play for us - he's worth a pile of shit.

Right, you don't understand how value works, there's the issue.

He (or rather his playing registration) is an asset owned by Leicester City. They decide how they value the asset, and what they would sell it for. As the owners of the asset, their valuation is all that matters.

To take a parallel - let's say you own a house and value it at 200k. If I come and offer 100k for it, you'd tell me to do one. If I come back and say I won't go above 120k for it, that doesn't mean it's only worth 120k because you don't have to sell it - it's worth the price you're willing to accept.

In a world where Coutinho goes for £146 million then in that same world Mahrez should be going for well over £100 million. Although no footballer is worth that kind of money in my opinion, Coutinho has set the bar here and I'd be pretty disappointed if we had to sell Mahrez for less than he went for just because we are not an ancient force like Liverpool.

if the owners have put a value on Mahrez at £90 million, simply to stop another club from buying him, which is what i'm saying, it doesn't mean that Mahrez is now worth £90 million, or that we have an asset that is worth £90 million.

He was clearly worth a bare minimum of 50 last summer. Maybe 60 70 minimum at the start of this window. Last couple of days of the window 80 minimum is fair

He's not being priced out

He didn't sell so yes he is.

A player is only worth what a buyer is willing to pay for him and on transfer deadline day that figure was £65m. He is not worth that now and we have no way of knowing much he is actually worth currently . We will have to wait till the summer to find out what he is worth when he will probably move to Roma.
