Only time to take a short corner is when you're timewasting or after possession for possession's sake (Puel?)

Absolutely pointless for a team trying to make the most of the opportunity of getting the ball in the box

Bin them off, never take one again until we're hanging on in a game

Corners are totally shite without a big lump to attack the ball on the off chance someone could beat the first man .

i can't remember us being much of a threat even in our Prem winning season

The most annoying thing about the botched short corner that got Albrighton booked, was that it was the same short corner routine that ballsed up twice against Everton, once leading to an offside (especially braindead), and the second time resulted in Everton breaking and scoring after Chillwell's howler. Yet here we were today, trying exactly the same move and fecking it up again. Baffling.

I don't understand why we keep trying them!

Fair enough if we are trying to time waste with a few minutes left or if the opposition are caught sleeping and have not sent a man over to defend against a short corner.

However we try them when they have sent two players over to defend the short corner and inevitably we concede posession time and time again.

My Grandad was going absolutely beserk at the short corners today. It also really pisses him off when both Mahrez and Albrighton stand over the free kicks when only one of them will take it.

Got to agree with this bit.

Short corners have their place.  It changes the angle of the cross which can be of benefit, especially against a zonal marking system. As with anything in football though, use it as an option to change things up, not as the only option.

long, short - it doesn't matter; we're ****ing shit at both.

we have always been abysmal at set pieces - both attacking and defending.

might as well just not bother and hand the ball back tbh.

Our corners are a joke, like our throw ins.

How the greatest player in the world can only hit the first man (who is an opposition player) or ablls up a short corner is a mystery to me. Albrighton makes no claims to be anything other than he is - a freebie who works hard - he gets his crosses in a lot of the time but the accuracy of them has always been sporadic. At least Albrighton works his socks off around the park and plays defence. I'd much rather have him in the side as a WB than bother with Simpson again.

Two players who let us and the team down badly with their service today.

I can actually understand having 2 players standing over the FK, it's so that the opposition don't know whether it's the right or left footer, in or out swinger and being as neither of them would be any use in the box receiving the cross means they may as well stand over the ball. The alternative is to let Mahrez take them all and Albrighton to cover in defence. The opposite would not be a good idea.

I'm convinced we do about 5 minutes of passing and set piece training during training every week. The rest of the time they just play uno or something.

Short or long makes no difference - long and 9/10 times it doesn't beat the first man, Short and we either lose it or pump it at the first man. No point getting excited for a set piece these days

the one we did in the 1st half was a classic, Albrighton short to Mahrez, Mahrez short to Shaqiri, Albrighton hacks Shaqiri down for yellow card..

Only we can turn an attacking situation into a yellow card for one of our key players.

13 corners in the game. We had like 3 in the first few minutes. Didn't look like scoring from any of them, it's a joke.

Not only can we not defend at set pieces, we can't attack either.

Do we even practice? :frusty:

You'd think there would e a 50 per cent chance of our corners/free kicks/crosses finding the head one of our own players (maybe more given that our own players are actually the target) but in reality it's got to be less than ten per cent.

Why is that??

answers on a postcard please....

At every corner the supporters get excited and then pissed off when nothing  comes of it

...might help if the team were a bit taller  but most of all it’s time to practice on something which is more imaginative .

They work when you know what to do with them and make the best of them. All we do is a 1-2 with Mahrez/Albrighton and end up getting it in the box anyway. And today's crossing for the most part was absolutely terrible.

When you're up against Stoke, a very physical and tall side, crossing it in to the box is redundant unless you get the perfect one (didn't look anywhere near likely today).

The purpose of short corners, for the most part, is to take away the predictability for the opposing team as opposed to just crossing it in and hoping for the best. If we worked the short corner well and dragged Stoke players out of their zonal marking positions then we may have been more successful with them. That never happened today because we seemed so bereft of ideas. When we kept doing the same thing from them, it's so easy to defend against.

The one where Mahrez (?) lost the ball fvcked me off so much.

I think the closest we came to a real chance from any corner was James in the first half volleying over or Mahrez bringing out a good save out of Butland after his shot just inside the box. Although I'm not even sure if the Mahrez chance came directly from a corner anyway.
