I see your point.

However, I can't but stress that mentioning Mendy in there is really harsh - injured against Arsenal, lengthy spell on the sidelines, hardly ever featured for us, that was out of our hands.

Slimani has his qualities, but felt out of place with the way we're playing and allegedly made snarky remarks about the team, doesn't look like he's ever really wanted to be at Leicester, despite the Mahrez link.

Musa and Kapustka? Yes from me. Although Bartosz has the benefit of his age, so could still come good sooner than later. But the reports from Freiburg don't have me overly excited, he seems to have stalled.

But you can't judge our transfer record by mentioning a few selected names only. I could in turn say we've signed Maguire, Iborra (who has his qualities), Silva (who has his qualities), Iheanacho, Ndidi, Ricardo Pereira, Evans and are looking to bring in a Georgian international at centre-back, plus trying to bring the Mahrez Saga to an end, talks about Maddison /Grealish, plus rumours regarding Thorgan Hazard, Elyounoussi.

That's impressive to me - not disregarding the inflated transfer fees we've paid in recent years, mind.

Signing new players is always a bit of gamble - in spite of all the scouting you do and the stats and abilities available, it's no guarantee the new players will have the desired impact.

Slimani I reluctantly put on there as I rate him but we haven’t played him enough or when we did, play to his strengths.

Mendy we sent out on loan to Nice and he could barely get a game there.

What we need is some proven quality ready to fit into the first team and push players out.

Jonny Evans should be 3rd choice and we should be looking at getting real quality who Maguire can benifit from. I can actually see Morgan starting Against Man U.

Who?  Thomas or Barnes................or both?   One thing Puel does well is giving youth a chance.  Plenty of other teams play 19/20 year olds.

Our reliable journalists haven't commented on the supposed Southampton bid yet, though I imagine they will tomorrow. A relative ITK on our forum though said yesterday that a fee is of £20m plus is agreed between us and Leicester and has been for ages (when it was originally reported a few weeks ago), but the Mahrez to Manchester City deal as well as the uncertainty over Puel's future is dragging it out. Apparently though both us and Maddison are happy to play the long game and not rush into a deal, as a bidding war obviously suits us better.

One thing that could potentially give Southampton an edge, we had Harrison Reed on loan from them last season and our manager is apparently keen to get him back (something that I'm indifferent about personally, and most Norwich fans are the same). So if they were to match your fee or even go in a bit lower, but offer us Reed in return, then our manager and Sporting Director would almost certainly go for that. The fee from Southampton, similarly to yours, is apparently £20m plus.

At the moment though it's only the Sun reporting it. Until our main journalists respond to it I won't think much of it. Of the current 20 Premier League clubs, 14 are supposedly interested in Maddison, so whilst Southampton may well have made a bid, there's also a very good chance it's just paper talk. I'm not ITK at all, but judging from what our most reliable sources are saying, there won't be any major developments until Mahrez moves on, unless someone comes in with a bid that blows everyone out the water.

Also, not a rumour or anything but as part of the deal I'd love us to get Harvey Barnes, even if it's just on loan. Really impressed at Barnsley and would be a good option for us next season.

Good post, I hope you're right.

Harvey Barnes to Norwich on loan for the season as part of the Maddison deal would be great for the player and both our clubs. He was brought back in January which in hindsight was a mistake as he never got enough first team minutes to justify it. I suspect he was brought back so Puel could have a closer look at him and to strengthen our bid for the Development League title or whatever it's called.

Barnes had the MK Dons fans saying he was the best player they had seen since Deli Ali when on loan to them in League One. He posted great stats in assists and goals for Barnsley last year as well for the half a season he was there. A season at Norwich would be another step up and will fill a void to a point after Maddison leaves as they both play in the attacking midfielder role.

I can't see Barnes getting much of a look in here next season as we'll probably have Gray, Iheanacho, Albrighton, Diabate, Okazaki and probably two big money signings competing for those three spots behind Vardy.

Ffs let's just sign him, then it least stop other teams like Southampton posting threads on their forum 'saintsweb' drooling over the prospect of him joining them

On the contrary - as long as we sign him the more other clubs forums think they have the better !

I thought it was out there that we had made a bid - the response to JP’s tweet says differently

By a few ITK accounts Slimani, Mendy and Kapustka were bought because Ranieri insisted and I suppose after winning the title it's hard to say no to the man's judgement.

I remember looking at Mendy's stats before we bought him and thought he would be a bad buy. His tackling and interception stats were poor as was his assists and key passes. He had a very high pass completion rate but that can be meaningless if all he ever looks to do with the ball is low risk and moving it on. He can't even get into Nice's team this season so I've all but written him off as another bad buy.

Slimani was really poor business as well. We could have got him £6m cheaper a few weeks before but let his release clause run out and then bought him at the end of the window in a bit of a panic buy. A terrible buy for us as it soon became clear he could never play alongside Vardy.

I'll defend the Kapuska buy to a point as although bought on a whim you won't go too far wrong buying a 19 year old Polish international with a dozen caps who has just won MOM in the Euro's for £5m. You would think you'd at least get your money back but that looks unlikely now.

Iborra was grossly overpriced for an ageing player who was surplus at Sevilla and came here as a squad player.

Silva and Iheanacho are more or less fair value at best, certainly nothing more than that. We'd probably struggle to get our money back on both of them if we sold them this summer.

Only Maguire and Ndidi have proved to be good buys.

Head of recruitment apparently gone dealings in the hands of a DOF who is proven to be incompetent.

Supposed to be an incredibly important summer for City. Shouldn't be hanging on Mahrez deal

Really hope to be proven wrong but the signs aint good

In Rudkin we trust? Noooo!

I like how everyone has assumed that just because Macia is called head of recruitment at West Ham that was his title here lol clearly some people have never had a promotion! Man was the ****ing chief scout ffs lollol

Relax, he will sign for Leicester. Spoke to his mate the other day and he 100% wants the move back to the midlands. Norwich want as much as they can hence the leaked ‘Southampton and Everton interest’.

It seems Rudkin would get better press on here if he just handed over a blank cheque for every player we wanted to buy and told the selling club to fill in what they wanted but don't take the piss too much.

There are probably other politics going on with the Mahrez deal and our budget and FFP are all considered. I'm sure if we really want Maddison then no one will just snatch him from under our noses without us having a chance to better the offer to club or player.

FWIW I think we would be Maddison's first choice as he can move back home and he knows a lot of our players from England U21's. He'll look at our squad and know we're as good as anyone outside the elite and he'll get a regular game easily enough.
